Good morning!
Prepare yourself for a long post. You might still be reading this when I return from the market tonight. muhaha.
Getting up at 5:30am on Saturdays is getting a bit old… We went to bed much later than we should have last night. Oh dear. I blame Lie To Me! I love that this show is actually based on real research that I learned in my courses. So impressed!
It also took a lot of persuasion, but I was able to convince myself to do the Friday night workout after a long day. I told myself over and over, ‘If you do it now, you won’t have to worry about it after the market’
Before I had convinced myself, I put on my workout clothes + gear. This is key. I am going to make up a statistic that when you put on your workout clothes you will end up working out 90% of the time. Approximately.
I felt (and looked) a bit silly sitting there with all my gear on so I just decided to get outside and move my legs.
The run:
- Distance: 5.16 miles
- Time: 43:13 mins
- Avg pace: 8:22
Mile splits:
- Mile 1: 8:28
- Mile 2: 8:10
- Mile 3: 8:42
- Mile 4: 8:11
- Mile 5: 8:29
- Mile 5-5.16: 1:10 (aka 7:15 pace)
Of course once I was warmed up I felt great. Today is a lovely rest day and I fully plan on kicking up my feet tonight! Yeeehaw.
This morning I had to pull out all the energy foods…due to major lack of sleep!
I wonder if this will wake me up?
I bought some Green Tea + Lemon Kombucha because I quite enjoyed it when I had it recently. This morning I mixed a little bit into my iced green tea and it was fun and spunky to drink.
Also fun are garden pictures…

It’s aliiiiiiive.

Quite possibly my favourite so far!

Ok, Eric and I need your help. It appears that we have another situation on our hands.
We have no idea what this crazy 6 foot high plant is! Honestly, it wasn’t even there a month ago and now it’s 6 feet high. We are a bit scared. Ok, we are a lot scared.
When one should fear a plant:
1) When a plant is almost taller than your husband, fear it.

2) When my husband is scared of a plant, fear it.

At breakfast I was seeing doubles…
Then quadruplets…
In this fabulous energizing Green Monster = 3 cups Purslane, 1.25 cups almond milk, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 frozen banana, 1/2 scoop Amazing Grass Chocolate Amazing Meal Powder, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 1 tbsp peanut butter. Boom.
I just love, love, love Purslane in GM’s.
My hard work Thursday and Friday…

That would be 260 Glo Bars! In total this week I made over 1,000 Glo bars and shipped out around 750 bars. Crazy week!
More Glo Dough…

NEW this week:
1) Dark Roast Coffee Chocolate Macaroons

Oh no she didn’t!

I played off the super popular Empower Glo Bar and made a chocolate coffee macaroon. It is delicious!
2) Peanut Butter Chocolate Macaroons
[Sorry no picture as they were dehydrating last night when I took these!] I will get some pics today. They might be my favourite macaroon ever.
It has been a long time since I did a natural beauty product review for Project Natural Glow!

My sister got me hooked on these amazing Deep Steep products when she bought me a bunch for my birthday back in May. They are 100% organic, vegan, paraben free, etc.

And best of all…they WORK. Extremely well. They are also reasonably priced. According to Skin Deep they have a few concerning ingredients so their products have ratings between 1-4 depending on the product you use.

I will buy this particular item again and again:

It is the Deep Steep Grapefruit Moisture Stick and it is soooo fabulous. It also only scores a 1 on the Skin Deep website. I use it twice daily; in the morning and before bed all over my face, on my hands and décolletage – even my mouth as a lip chap! It is a miracle stick. You can throw it in your purse, gym bag, etc. You can buy the products online at Innocent Earth (they also have a store location in Alberta) and I’m pretty sure all over North America.
I still use coconut oil all over my skin in the shower. Not only is it a great moisturizer, but It works great as a ‘shave oil’ too! I love using coconut oil in the summer because it isn’t hard as a rock as it was all winter. Makes for easier slathering.
After washing my skin, I slather on coconut oil all over my skin and just rinse. The oil is left on your skin (but not too much!) and your skin is left very soft after the shower. I don’t even need any other moisturizer at all!
Happy 6th Anniversary to my sister Kristi and brother-in-law Pete!
Well, we are off to the Farmer’s Market. I’ll see you tonight sometime! Have a wonderful start to your weekend.
Love the garden pics!! Just beautiful! Those products look great, too– I agree with you– it can be hard to find natural face products that actually WORK!
Good luck at the market today!
The glo dough always looks so good. Good luck today, hopefully you are having nice weather.
I love everything about this post. I totally agree with your made up statistic, too. All of you baked goods look awesome– I need to get around to ordering some, soon! I love the measuring cup green smoothie. I think I mentioned this once before, but just in case you missed it, I’m having an amazing grass giveaway on my blog: http://roseyrebecca.com/2010/07/07/amazing-grass-giveaway/
Have an awesome day!
Hahahaha I love your reasons for when one should fear a plant. Gee that is one gigantic plant!!! And the macaroons look divine!! I hope all goes well today!
Hah, I fear ALL plants – I don’t need any other reasons :D
1000 Glo Bars!? Darn, you must’ve been busy, I salute you!! They all look soo good…I’m thinking I need to make a trip to Canada JUST to buy some :P
The ‘roons and Glo Dough look so tasty. I think the plant is a Yucca.
Have a good market day today!
I need to take your workout clothes advice…. I got up at 7 this morning to go for a run… but it is now 8:16 and I am still sitting in front of my laptop. Plus I just painted my toenails so I can’t put my socks and shoes on yet (Doh!!). Maybe if I put the rest of my running stuff on….. and do my warmup stretches…
I love that you have coconut oil in the shower. Does it get messy? Like do you have coconut grease on the jar and does the bathtub get slippery? I’d like to try it but if its a lot of cleanup after every shower, I’m not so sure….
Anyway, have a great day!! Enjoy the weather, I hear the humidex is supposed to be in the 30s today instead of the 40s!
I love that orange and yellow flower in your garden! Do you know what kind it is? I have a similar monstrous plant situation outside my back door. It is now taller than me and is starting to look a little more tree like than weed like!
Have a great time at the market today – hopefully it’s not as humid as last week!
It might be a day lily but im not positive!
If I would have had to make 1000 Glo Bars this week, there is a good chance there would only be 500 to send out. I like to eat when I bake… a lot.
Those products look so good! I’m thinking I want to order that stick! I have also never thought of using coconut oil in the shower. Thanks for the tip!
Coffee/chocolate macaroons?! Be still my heart!! Have a fabulous day at the market :)
I received my first glo bar order yesterday, thank you so much!! I had a hard time not diving in and trying every one of them. I went for Empower first. Deeeeeeelish!!
Peanut butter chocolate macarooms?! Oh my gosh!
I second this!! They sound a-mazing!!
Wish I could send you both some! :)
Chocolate coffee macaroons??? Oh my. You are brilliant.
Congrats on the Glo bar success! Looks beautiful as well as healthy! Thanks for the product review too. Will have to try the moisturizer. As for the coconut oil, do you also put it on your face or just your body? Thanks!
Just on my body now that I am using the moisture stick :)
I asked the gardener in the family about the plant but he is stumped! My uneducated “gardener” guess is that it is some variety of a Yucca? Good luck at the market today and I hope cool breezes prevail.
Okay please explain how you use coconut oil in the shower! How much, etc I’m very intrigued!
After washing my skin, I slather on coconut oil all over my skin and just rinse. The oil is left on your skin (but not too much!) and your skin is left very soft after the shower. I don’t even need any other moisturizer at all!
Hi Angela! Many congrats on the success of your Glo Bars! It is truly well deserved. :) And thank you for sharing those products with us. I think I maybe tempted to try some out. Have a good weekend!
PLANT MYSTERY SOLVED
That plant is the flower from the Yucca plant! It sends out it flower and shoots when it is happy, so it must like you. :) Just kidding.
But it is a Yucca. To be honest, I didn’t know they grew naturally here in Ontario, but here is a website for you to check out: http://ontariowildflowers.com/main/species.php?id=770
Cool!
Your work is tremendous. At what market do you sell products?
I sell my products at the Oakville Organic farmers Market, online, and at Ambrosia natural food store. :)
Can I just say that you have some of the most beautiful pictures on a food blog? Seriously…they’re all just so lovely! I love coming to your site because I’m always treated with such lovely photos. You really have a gift with the camera.
Aww thanks hun!! xo
Holy moly you are a lean, mean, baking machine!!! How do you do it?!
Those macaroons look ridiculous! Coffeeeee? So good!!
I have one farmer that sells purslane at the farmer’s market, but I haven’t seen it recently. I really need to seek it out. It’s always good to switch up the greens in the smoothies.
The coconut oil sounds great! Does it make the shower messy at all?
I dont find it does…I do try to rinse/spray the shower after each use though so that prob helps
Hi! Yes, as the others have said, it is indeed a yucca. :) I lived in Arizona for a couple years where they’re native, and once did a school project of measuring their growth- it’s crazy how fast they grow, I think something like 4 or 5 inches a day!
4-5 inches a day??? OMG! That seems about right! lmao
That looks a lot like the yucca plant in our backyard… so that would be my guess!
Glo Doughs look sooooo good; wish I could come to your Farmer’s Market!
I am in awe of your speediness running! My race pace is about a 9 min mi. So training at 8’s – whoah! Great job!
thanks! :)
I love your garden photos! Your garden must be massive. And that plants scares me a little, too (Eric’s scared?!) Your Glo Bars are seriously awesome (and the Empower Glo Dough too. POWERDOUGH!) and you’re amazing, busting out so many orders so efficiently!
Wei-Wei
That’s a great pace – you’re a running superstar!
Aww, Happy Anniversary to your sister!
Have a great day at the market!
P.S. It wasn’t that long!
Ange, I’m glad others have determined the crazy plant is yucca – my first fear was hogweed. I saw a thing on CH news last night that this stuff is starting to show up in forests around Ontario and it can cause blindness! Happy to hear you don’t have a dangerous plant in your garden ;) Have a great day at the farmers market!
yikes!!! Hopefully no hogweed here!
Angela, I always enjoy your farmers market posts. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. I love it!
im glad you enjoy them!
I wish just putting on my workout clothes would convince me to work out! If I’m not feeling it I just look down and think to myself “well, this is what I’m wearing today!” =P
Girl, look at you go with all your creations!! I bet they love you at the market! :D
I am obsessed with those little cans of kombucha this summer — so refreshing! Hope today’s market goes swimmingly!
I’ve got to try the coconut oil trick in the shower. It seems like it saves you a step of having to apply lotion afterwards, which is no fun to me. Thanks for the tip!
that is why I do it too, because I loathe putting on moisturizer….loathe!!! lol
lol…I totally agree about fearing huge plants. They’re scary! When I weed our flower bed I get really freaked out by the super tall weeds. I’ve never had one as big as yours, though!
I’ve been wanting to try using some organic and natural products after seeing the huge lists of chemicals in my normal products! Are Deep Steep products sold around here?
Good luck at the market today! Not that you need it. ;)
That plant is indeed a Yucca, as many others have mentioned. We had one in our front yard and it’s currently living in the backyard as a mound of dirt as we get our driveyway/front yard/patio done. Personally I detest that plant. I think it’s ugly with it’s spiky leaves. Once the flowers die off there will be pods that grow and if you don’t kill it off, your yucca will grow back next year. Ugh, what a nightmare–to me anyway. I was hoping for the uprooting of our yucca to result in death but no luck :P
I love seeing your CSA share every week. You’ve totally convinced me and the BF to get a CSA half-share during the summer when we finally move in together and now I can’t wait. You’re totally right too…it would be way cheaper than the produce at WF. Also, where did you pick up your Kombucha Wonder?
hahaha too funny how much you dont like the plant! I could see it being a huge eyesore after the flowers are gone (like it was before! haha)
I got the kombucha from my wholesaler
Good job on pushing through the 5 miles :) Cute workout gear always helps me too!!
Those macaroons look completely scrumptious…
Your goods look so dainty and lovely. I wish they were at a Farmer’s Market near me.
I hear ya on early mornings. Tomorrow I’ll be getting up that early to Volunteer for the LiveStrong Challenge in San Jose, CA :)
I want a macaroon! My roommate bought some macaroons with chocolate coated bottoms, they looked fantastic but the ingredients list had all kinds of red flags (the worst offender being hydrogenated oil!) No way I was going to eat any, but I still want macaroons! Healthy ones like yours :)
Skin Deep is a great website. You should also check out www.goodguide.com
In addition to skin/beauty product reviews, they also have ratings for the safety of food and household cleaners!
Awesome thanks for the link!
I also watched a TON of “Lie to Me” yesterday! New favorite.
Love your blog!
thanks! :)
I know we are obsessed with it too…its SO good!
Great blog! This mystery plant is called a “Yucca”. We inherited one when we bought our place, we dug it out and it grew back! These things are indestructable!
Your purslane GM’s got me thinking this morning while I was on my run. I came home and refueled with a GM made with Mache. Have you ever had it? It is also called Lamb’s Lettuce. It’s a natural fatigue fighter, high in B vitamins and it has 1/3 more iron than spinach! It was such a lovely GM, so refreshing and energizing. You can find more Mache facts here: http://www.theworldwidegourmet.com/products/articles/anti-stress-anti-fatigue-and-full-of-vitamins/
No I havent but now of course I want to try it!
i really love the lily pictures. amazing!
i love how you use the measuring cup for green smoothies.
enjoy your market day.
That is so true! When I’m putting off working out, I’ll put on my workout clothes and it totally gets me in gear to go! You inspired me to try out green monster smoothies. I can’t believe I lived so long without them!
A friend of mine also raves about coconut oil. I am going to start using it!
I just love your blog, and your flowers are so beautiful. Have a great day at the farmer’s market :)
thanks :) Glad you enjoy the blog!
I’m gonna have to look into those products – I love natural beauty finds! Have fun at the market (:
I have the same plant in my yard. It has beautiful flowers when it blooms. I believe it’s a yucca plant. I think you can eat the root but it’s very fiberous and chewy.
Some others got it right about that plant. It’s a yucca! The others are tiger lillies and hosta blooms! Gorgeous. Gotta love gardening.
Way to work it sister on the run! Now don’t you feel good about it? haha
Chocolate coffee!?!?!?
Chocolate peanut butter?!?!?!
I want some!!!
Coconut oil is a great moisturizer but I never thought of just using it in the shower… I might try it! I love using natural products for body care. :)
