Last night I got into my workout clothes and skipped my workout. Remember my statistic of wearing your workout clothes leading to a workout 90% of the time? Well, I was the 10% last night! I actually did get out on the road and then my ankle felt really tight so I decided not to push it and to have another rest day. If there is one thing I have learned a few rest days are much better than an injury!
I skipped my run in lieu of reading…
Yes, it’s true.
After more than a year and a half of creating hundreds of Green Monsters and putting up with my troublesome blenders, I finally said enough is enough and I purchased a Vitamix 5200. I decided on a Vitamix after seeing the recent Consumer Report’s review of the top 5 blenders, with Vitamix coming out #1.
For the Story of the Green Monster and how I started it, see this post.
I have been saving for a ‘rainy’ day and that rainy day just so happened to be Sunday July 18th, 2010. Well, technically that rainy day was this morning…
That would be the first rain storm we have had in a long time!
The website said it would take 2 weeks to arrive and it got to me in 3 days!
A moment of silence please for Her Mix-A-Lot…
Some day down the road, I will be old and grey and I will tell my grandkids that I spent more on this machine than my first house.
To my surprise it just fit underneath the cabinet. A match made in heaven!
I can’t help myself but I love these old school switches and dials.
I also have a fondness for these phones, but Eric said I have to wait another 60 years before I can buy one. Total mood kill.
I love that the jug has clearly defined measurements all the way up. No measuring cups required.
Obviously the first thing I had to make last night was a celebratory Green Monster!

As I watched my spinach, Almond milk, banana, wheatgrass powder, carob powder, vodka, and ice whirl away before me, a single tear dropped to the floor.
All that was left was a jug of green velvet.
Sluuurrrrrp.
This morning’s mix involved KALE and I am happy to report I did not have to chew my Green Monster. Although, I admit there was a bit of phantom chewing going on just out of sheer habit.
I do not regret waiting this long to buy a Vitamix because it honestly just feels more special to me now. I cherish it…and pet it…and give it little winks from across the kitchen. Her Mix-A-Lot will be well cared for, don’t you worry.
Now for the rest of this week’s CSA veggie-shoot!
Then I fell in love with this garlic.
LOTS of carrots this week, but sadly, no carrot showgirls!
I think I am going to make a huge carrot juice and then use the pulp for carrot muffins! Anyone have any vegan carrot muffin recipes…or carrot cake?
Not sure what to make with the green beans…I don’t overly feel like Green Bean Casserole!
I do however have a plan for these potatoes. I am a die hard S + V fan so to stumble across this recipe was pure fate.
Two Patty Pan squash!
The whole lot…
The husband watched his crazy wife from inside.
I was lying down on the deck shooting this garlic at this awkward angle. It was intense. After I got up, I looked over and saw him shaking his head and laughing!
Well, we are having a wicked thunder and lightening storm right now…looks like I will have to wait for that elusive run until it clears later today. I better get back to the market prep going on to get ready for tomorrow! Don’t forget the Healthy Living Summit raffle goes only until 12 noon EST. Click here for more info.
Enjoy your Friday!

Congrats on the VIta!!!!!!
You will never stop loving it that much, it’s so wonderful =)
Love your CSA photo shoots;)
We eat our green beans raw on salads out of the garden. They’re also great to break and add to soups at the end so they’re still a bit crunchy.
So happy for you and your new blender <3
OK, I have been addicted to your blog lately. I LOVE IT. But you have me on a juicing frenzy. But sadly I don’t have a juicer, but I do have my beloved Vitamix. I am finding that my smoothies have a very grainy texture (frothy isn’t quite the word, but I worry that grainy isn’t the right word either…I just feel like I am drinking pulp). Do you know what to do? (or, I should say, now that you have one, are you going to try to juice?!?!!) I have heard of people using the Vitamix and then pouring the juice through a nutbag. Any thoughts? I can’t wait for you to try everything with the Vitamix. LOVE IT
I will blend whole pieces of fruit probably at some point. I think pouring through cheesecloth might work!
I can’t wait until this is ME getting a VitaMix — Congrats 100 times, I am so happy for you! :)
Beautiful veggies, absolutely beautiful.
What? You, the queen of green monsters, did not have a vitamix? I can’t believe it! Even I have one. Well, actually, it’s not mine, it’s my mother’s, but since I’m staying here for the summer I have been having lots of fun with it.
I’m so jealous of your vitamix! Congrats! You’ll have much fun with it.
YAY! Congrats on the new vitamix! I’ll be getting mine shortly! We had another high speed blender brand but it was soooo old and burned out several months ago. I miss having kale in my smoothies, my current blender just can’t handle it so it’s always spinach and romaine for me!
Yay! I had a feeling you would be getting one soon. Just got mine at Costco a few weeks ago- LOVE it! You enjoy it girl! :-)
I Posted a vegan zucchini muffin recipe the other day that someone said they subbed out the zucch and made carrot muffins. Might need to add a bit more liquid but it should work. The muffins are SOooo delicious :)
I hope Eric doesn’t get jealous of Her-mix-a-lot!
Eric says I am having an affair with the kitchen….bahaha
Haha I’m loving the name! Your veggie shots are incredible, I always feel strange ogling over pictures of garlic and carrots, but darn it it’s love! Haha :) I would love a Vita one day, but I think my next big purchase will be a SLR camera… as much as I love my point-and-shoot I NEED a SLR! ;)
For the green beans – Eat Drink and Be Vegan has the BEST recipe for lemoney broiled green beans … cooked exactly like it sounds! They’re delicious and a fun way to cook up your beans.
thanks this sounds perfect!
i really like katie’s carrot cake muffins at chocolatecoveredkatie.com
I love thunderstorms! Congrats on your Vitamix. I want one real bad but the price scares me away, haha.
Aggh! Congratulations–I feel that buying a Vita-Mix is worthy of a celebration, in my book. I don’t know when I will be able to afford one either, if ever. I love your photography in this post! Especially the garlic, silly or not silly :)
Were you surprised it fit underneath the counter? I thought you had originally said the dimensions wouldn’t…yay, anyway!
The dimensions were like Exactly the same…so I thought it could go either way. I was so happy to be able to squeeze it in!!
I’m so jealous on two accounts:
Vitamix.
Thunderstorm.
I am super stoked for you!!!! You totally deserve a Vita after how many green monsters you’ve made in the last couple of years.
My step-dad gave me fresh green beans from his garden and I just sauteed them on low heat in some olive oil and my favorite seasonings until they were soft. Then, I proceeded to eat them like candy for days on end. I ate them cold. I ate them hot. It’s getting me all worked up just talking about it! They were SO good!
So jealous! My old, hand me down blender makes me chew my green monsters. Yuck. As for the green beans, I lovvveee roasting them with sea salt and a little olive oil. Then I eat them like French fries… Ketchup and all!
I have an amazing carrot cake recipe (tried ‘n true from many summeres of my childhood!) that has been on my “to-veganize” list, but I haven’t had time lately. My guess is it wouldn’t be terribly hard as the only change needed would be substituing for the 2-3 eggs in the recipe. And let’s not forget the payoff…
1 ridiculously, incredibly, fantastically moist and delish carrot-studded cake.
AND
1 ridiculously, incredibly, fantastically happy cake devourer (is that even a word?)
If you decide to make the optional almaretto-scented cream cheese frosting, you might just reach a whole new level of nirvana. No joke.
If you’d like to give it a try, just let me know and I’ll email it over :)
Yay!!!! I love how you named it Her-Mix-A-Lot. That song always makes me smile…like your Vitamix will always make you smile.
Wow, a Vitamix!! I’m so excited for you….and possibly a little jealous, but trying not to let my Oster see ;)
dang girl!!! good for you! there is nothing like getting a new appliance. and then looking at it. and touching it. and then positioning it. hahahaha. its sort of like getting a new outfit but almost better. hmmm thats a good question. question…does new appliance trump new outfit?
