Some longtime blog readers may remember my Things I’m Loving Lately series, which I started waaaaaay back in 2012 to share some of my favourite food products and lifestyle odds-and-ends. I’ve had a lot of requests to start it up again, and I’m thrilled to get this series rolling once more in 2018! It’s a fun way for me to share the things I’m loving in my life right now, and I hope to put together one of these posts every month.
As always, these posts are never sponsored, but you’ll often see an affiliate link or two in the list. I have no relationship with any of the brands featured, and all of the products you see below I’ve purchased out of pocket. I simply enjoy sharing things I love in my own life with you and want to spread the word! Don’t forget to share things you’re loving right now below in the comments.
1. Grapefruit
I started eating one grapefruit a day near the end of last summer (it’s often my go-to evening snack!), and I love the boost of vitamin C this citrus fruit offers throughout the fall and winter seasons. I haven’t had nearly as many colds this season as I did last (knock on wood!), but that could also be due to my diligence in taking vitamin B12, iron, zinc, and vitamin D regularly over the last several months. Either way, it’s a refreshing way to satisfy my sweet-and-sour tooth in the evening.
While my workout of choice is usually a sweaty, heart-and-music-pumping spin class, I’ve realized it’s important I take time to strength train regularly too. I’ve been a fan of barre3’s online workouts for years now, and recently renewed my commitment to make the easy-to-follow videos a regular staple in my exercise routine. Since my workout time tends to be short, I’ll often combine two to three 10-minute videos over the course of a day. So convenient!
3. Noize coats
It became my mission this past fall to find a cruelty-free winter coat that I adore. After a lot of searching online, I came across a Canadian-owned brand called Noize. Have you heard of them? I’ve been so impressed with the two coats I purchased (the Gigi and the Brooklyn)—they’re both super warm and stylish as well as totally vegan, including the faux fur hood trim, vegan leather, and filling.
4. Cassava Crunch Yuca Root Chips (Seeds flavour)
When I first came across these grain-free chips at the grocery store, I was skeptical. Could a cassava-based chip really pass for a corn chip? Come on! Well much to my surprise they are quite good in their own way. Not only do I love that they’re made from Yuca root (and the “Seeds” flavour contains a whole slew of healthy seeds), but they actually remind me a lot of corn tortilla chips. Full disclosure: they do have a detectably starchy flavour, but I find when paired with salsa, hummus, nut butter, or guacamole, they’re a great healthy stand-in for my favourites!
5. My go-to chocolate bars
There’s no doubt I’m a total chocoholic. I’ve tried almost every vegan chocolate bar I’ve come across, and consider myself to be a bit of a chocolate connoisseur (totally joking). Well, I’m happy to report all of my research has been worth it! In the past several months I’ve settled on my go-to chocolate bar brands. My “everyday” chocolate (anybody else have an everyday chocolate?! Haha) is Green and Black’s Organic 85% Chocolate, which I picked up after a couple blog readers kindly hinted that the 85% was even better than my previous go-to, the 70%. When I’m craving milk chocolate, I reach for the Zazubean “Sassy” Coconut Milk Chocolate with Pomegranate and Hazelnuts (so fun!).
6. Warm salads
In the winter it can be challenging to convince myself to enjoy a raw lettuce and veggie salad (I just don’t crave them that much!), so one thing I like to do to trick myself is to build a warm salad. I’ll take leftover roasted or steamed veggies, heat them up in a skillet, and top my salad with them. It creates such a comforting salad that’s still just as nutritious…only dressed for winter! I recently shared this 5-minute warm salad bowl on Insta Stories: mixed greens, hemp hearts, walnuts, sliced avocado, Hilary’s Organic Chili-Lime Vinaigrette, and leftover roasted butternut squash heated up on with a bit of olive oil, salt, garlic powder, and pepper.
Those jackets look sooooo warm!!!! I LOVE that its a Canadian company, totally checking them out!
Have you tried Fairafric chocolate? They’re really new, but they dark chocolate ones specifically (60, 70 and 80%) are all vegan, fair trade and organic, and they’re INCREDIBLY smooth and rich, I love them! They don’t have a lot of add-ins, its mostly % variety, but totally worth trying as a high quality chocolate bar!
I love this series btw, thanks for doing it!
Funny you mentioned how warm they look because THEY ARE!! I mean, I often overheat in them (that may just be my nursing hormones though, I don’t know)…definitely the coat I grab when it’s 20 below! But I do regret wearing it on a warmer winter day because it’s generally too warm for me. lol.
I haven’t heard of that chocolate brand before, but I’m already on their website doing some drooling. This could be trouble!
Yay!!! So happy to have this feature back! I agree- I’m ALL over vitamin C this winter. I can’t handle grapefruit because I find it very bitter, but I have been eating an orange and having hot water with lemon every morning! Everyone else seems to have the flu this season except me. :)
Oh I love a good orange or lemon with hot water too!! Basically any citrus. :) Glad you’re feeling well, Laura!
I usually mix a small clementine or Orange in with the grapefruit and cut the supremes into small enough pieces that I get a bit of each. That may help with the bitterness.
Also, ruby red grapefruit are the sweetest I’ve found
That sounds so good :) Agree about the Ruby Reds too!
Thank you for sharing these with us, so generous of you without the typical sponsored ones of some others. : )
Glad you enjoy these posts Amelia!
How awesome to see this back! I started taking Vitamin C with an iron supplement and I do think it’s helping, too. Somewhat obsessed with pomegranate seeds – if you like parfaits, I made a “sundae” from a an online recipe group with cacao nibs, pomegranate, shredded coconut and almond butter over cultured almond milk (coconut yogurt would work, too!). I’m definitely trying those chips (the seed and kale look particularly good) – always looking for good grainless cracker types. Flackers (flax crackers) get old after awhile (I make my own in the dehydrator) and so many of the “sweet potato” and other types have corn or a grain of some kind in them, so I can’t eat. :( Thanks, Angela!
hey Kathy, So glad to hear you’re happy it’s back. :) I am too…it’s fun to collect little notes about things I enjoy over the month! The sundae sounds fantastic, by the way…so many great textures in there.
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been looking for a coat and these look awesome – plus I love that they are Canadian made. I love that you share these unsponsored – it’s way more credible. Thank you!
I hope you like them Lisa! I’ve been pleasantly surprised by them. I just wish they had more in stock!
I couldn’t have said it better!! LOVE!!!
Thanks Heather! :)
Hi, I, too, have been looking for a new winter coat and these look amazing. And like you, Angela, I wish they had more in stock – I’d order one NOW. Just FYI, Lisa, they aren’t Canadian made. If you check the specs, it says they’re made in China. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…
Yes, I’ve noticed they haven’t restocked since the fall (or at least it appears that way!). And I really wish they made their coats in Canada as well. It’s hard to find the perfect product that ticks all of the boxes.
Yay! So glad this is back :)
Thanks Jess, glad to hear it! :)
Loving the reboot! I just made your healthy kiddo cookies with leftover almond meal from a batch of almond milk. Great way to use up the almond pulp (and delicious too). These cookies are a great snack when the sugar monster strikes.. full of healthy fats to keep you full :)
Hey Angela, Oh I’ve been meaning to try this out! Thanks so much for sharing. I will make some almond milk tomorrow and try it. My kids those cookies!
I’ve never heard of cassava chips but they sound amazing. In fact, I love everything on their site. Thank you:)

Thank you for the barre3 info. Had not heard of them, going to check them out for sure.
I really enjoy this segment, a great way to discover new things.
Thanks so much,
Thanks Rita! :)
Love the jacket recommendation!
What I’m loving these days…. MY DIVA CUP!! After having a baby & nursing, Im back to regular periods. Who can say no to 10-12 hour leak-free protection that’s super convenient and way more environmentally friendly than regular pads and tampons?!
Oh I’ve heard good things about those! Thanks for the recommendation.
Between my two pregnancies and nursing I’ve had just one period since the end of 2013 I think. How crazy is that?! No complaints here! lol.
Hi Ange! Love these posts. :) Quick question — can you tell me what vitamins you take? As a fellow-vegan I am in need of some recommendations to ensure I am getting everything I need. Thanks! Xoxo
Hey Tammy, Of course! I take Megafood Prenatal (Herb-Free) multivitamin since I’m currently nursing, Megafood Blood Builder, Vitamin D drops (can’t recall the brand), Nutravege Vegan Omega oil, and a zinc chewable every couple of days in the winter from Shoppers (I think it’s Jamieson brand).
Thanks, Ange! Have a great weekend. :)
Yes yes and yes to warm salads! Such a yummy and simple spin on it. I’ve been loving them lately too. This is a great list.
Glad to hear you’ve been enjoying them too. It’s such a good way to use up leftover roasted veggies.
Angela I highly recommend Honey Mama’s Chocolate from Portland, OR. They are incredibly rich, fudgy deliciousness!

Thanks Kristina!
Love that you brought this series back! Do you ever sweeten your grapefruit? I love grapefruit, but sometimes they’re so tart it makes my face pucker. :) I try to avoid sprinkling sugar on them because it feels like it defeats the purpose of eating something healthy. Any suggestions?
Also, for excercise I love Fitness Blender on YouTube!
Oh I’ve heard good things about Fitness Blender…will have to check it out!
I’m a big fan of tart flavours (this is the girl who drank sauerkraut juice during pregnancy don’t forget…lol!) so I don’t use sugar with my grapefruit, but I agree that some of them taste better than others!!
Hi Angela, glad this series is back! I’ve been loving your coat in your insta pics, so great that it’s a company you can feel good about! And I think I need to check out that barre3. Oh and I gifted myself your OSG Everyday cookbook for Christmas this year (your first book is extremely well loved/dog eared/splattered etc) and I’m loving trying some new things!
Hey Michelle, Thank you so much for the cookbook support! I’m so flattered the first one has been so well loved. You’ll have to let me know your faves from book 2.
Green and Blacks 85% is one of my favs too — I also love researching the best chocolate brands :) Need to try those cassava chips!
Glad to hear you love it too! It’s so smooth compared to some of the 85% I’ve tried.
Nice reboot for 2018, I too love the yuca chips. I like the idea to serve them with guacamole. I discovered yuca chips when I used to live in the Caribbean (working as a chef). Now I see them in the stores in New York. The warm lettuce is indeed a fantastic idea for the colder month.
Thank you
Yes, I agree with others thank you for doing a favorite list. :)
We’re eating oranges everyday totally love them in the winter and very refreshing. Your hat is really cute, do you mind sharing what brand it is?
Thanks Valerie! I think the hat is from The Shoe Company, but 2-3 years ago.
Thank you for putting this together – I have my first Barre class tomorrow so if I enjoy it, will start using the online workouts! I love Green & Black’s chocolate – have you tried their new Velvet Dark Chocolate range? I am in LOVE with the mint and sea salt bars…
I have…it’s great as well! I miss my mint chocolate bars so much lately (I try not to eat peppermint while nursing as it can reduce milk supply)…can’t wait to be able to enjoy it again. Good luck at your first barre class!
Love your site and have your books! Even my meat eating husband enjoys them. The coats are really great looking, but just a point to be mindful of; even though it is vegan it does not mean it is good for the environment nor other beings. The chemicals used to produce fabrics pollute our waterways greatly. While we in Canada have stringent manufacturing guidelines and our off waste is not as bad as China, where this coat is made, we are still creating toxicity for plants and animals that make their home in and around water….not to mention the toxicity that we ingest. I have a couple of second hand fur coats that not only are stylish and warm, because they are a natural product (yes animal), when they wear out , usually after 15-20 years, they bio-degrade….or as I have done to one,…made it into a throw blanket. It is just a matter of recognizing the harm we as humans cause, regardless of our intentions, our spiritual, ethical and personal pursuits. ps….yes that chocolate is the best!!!
What brand vitamins do you like? I’ve been taking a multivitamin (a gummy one I admit) and have gotten sick this winter more than normal so I wonder if it’s time for a higher quality vitamin!
Hey Jenny, I tend to buy Megafood’s prenatals (herb-free) and their Blood builder. Also take vit D drops, zinc, and an algae based omega oil. :)
