Hey guys!
Hope you are having a fabulous Thursday. I am trucking along and trying not to get too stressed out that I am really behind in my preparation for Saturday’s market. I had a few set backs this morning! I’m really hoping the clock ticks a bit slower from now until Saturday morning.
I thought I would show you what wonderful goodies arrived in this week’s CSA! We have a lot of SCARFING to do!
Eric and I both noticed that the volume of our half share has increased this week! Must be getting into the plentiful season!
We agreed it is impossible not to have a super clean diet when you have a CSA share. So many veggies to eat! Eric also said that he has noticed he has a lot more energy since eating less processed foods and more veggies. I think he is slowly discovering that good wholesome foods = happier Eric! I think when people make changes to their diet, they really have to experience the benefits first hand before they will believe it…
Apples, cucumber, green onions, garlic scapes (mhauhuaa), lettuce, fresh basil, etc.
Green Monster joy…
Afternoon breaks (with nut butter!)…
The lettuce is so light and fluffy…
The battle of the Green Onion and Garlic Scape! DUN, DUN, DUN!
My oh my.
So dainty and delicate.
Hmmmm…..
What is this?
I know you guys will pull through on this one for me, as always!
Also, can you believe I have never had fresh basil at home before?
Am I supposed to plant this? I do not have a green thumb, although I do try! Last summer I planted herbs (from the seeds) and they didn’t grow. Maybe I just did it wrong?
The basil smells SO good! Eric and I were drooling in the car over it.
I knew exactly what I wanted for lunch today….
A toasted sandwich with fresh basil, tomatoes, cucumbers, hummus, avocado, EVOO, pepper, and sea salt!
This was INCREDIBLE!!!! I almost died when I tasted how good fresh basil is on a sandwich!!!
Seriously, how did I not know this?
Liquid energy…for a busy baker.
Along with a Liberate GF + Raw Glo Bar! YUM.
This was one of my favourite lunches in a long time!
Well, I need to get back to work. Going to be a very late one tonight, so I will likely see you in the morning! Have a lovely day.
All this produce looks simply amazing! And it shows in your lunch, too. I’m actually not a big fan of the smell/taste of basil… maybe I’m just not used to herbs? :SI don’t know what that veggie is, either! Anybody want to help out, here? :D
I hope you’re having a great day at the bakery! :)

Great selection. It looks like your mystery green might be Russian Kale or Red Kale.
It’s a Mizuna which is like a mustard green. Kinda like arugula.
Looks like some type of chard, maybe?
I LOVE fresh basil in everything… (my DOG is named Basil) I put it in my sandos all the time :)
YES plant it :) you can put it right in the ground if you have some good soil… or in a pot / planter. our basil lasts well into October, last year November, and I LOVE going outside and picking a few leaves for whatever I’m doing … :)
I am stumped on this one… I’ll look forward to what others say! :) Have a fabulous day, don’t stress, you’ll do it!
Everything looks so fresh and yummy! Definitely looks like Russian Kale.
LOVE fresh basil on sandwiches! It’s the best. Paired with other veggies, hummus & a little mustard. Divine.
The strawberries we buy here are local and on the package they actually have the farmers name on it! Isn’t that neat? Fun fact :)
I’m almost positive that’s red kale. If so, it’s delicious in a white bean/veggie soup. As for fresh basil… how have you been living without it, girl?! Try adding a handful of leaves to a green smoothie– it adds great zing. :)
nom nom nom!! so lucky to have all those fresh veggies! :)
Looks like Red Russian Kale to me! NOMNOMNOM
Not entirely sure but the greens look like a beet green, though not 100% the leaf is different from what I have had.
The rest of the produce looks amazing and basil..oh be still my heart. I always keep a plant on my window sill in the kitchen for using while cooking! I am no green thumb either but it is not hard to care for either.
I am super excited for my CSA to start. Rain here has it delayed, plus the growing season is much shorter in Saskatchewan. I’m excited to see all the fresh, new veggies I’ll be getting!
Those apples look like they’re sooooo crispy and sweet! Your CSA greens look amazing – I really wish I could buy into one, but I move around too much and I’m not sure I’d be able to eat it all by my lonesome anyway :(
I never knew that there was an organic market in Oakville, but I might be passing through this weekend so hopefully I can get a chance to stop by and try out your Glo Bars, and maybe grab some org veggies while I’m there :)
I tend not to buy fresh herbs because of the price, but that sandwich looks SOOO good!
Basil is so easy to grow, even on your window sill… just make sure to always leave some leaves, don’t use them all.
i’ve never seen that veggie before but it looks yummy!! Great haul!!
Yum! So much veg *drool*
The mystery green looks like purple mizuna to me

it’s kale! Put it in your green monsters.
As already guessed above, it’s red russian kale. The colour goes a beautiful grey pink after frost but it’s good to eat at any time of year! I’m growing some at my allotment:)
SUCH beautiful veggies!!! I am sending good thoughts your way– best of luck as you prep for your time at the market!!! I know you’re going to be a huge success!
It looks like the kale that I received in my CSA box yesterday. (I also got garlic scapes!) It was my first pickup and luckily the farm that I get it from sends out an e-mail explaining what everything is. I have never had this type of kale, but I made kale chips with it last night and they were the best batch that I have ever made. I was so excited!
That all looks sooooooo yummy!!!!!!!!!!! I bet those strawberries will be BURSTING with flavour!!!
Good luck this evening, you’ll do just fine!!
