I had my first One Lucky Duck experience in NYC after hearing so many good things about it over the past few years. One Lucky Duck was founded in 2005 by Sarma Melngailis, the co-creator of the Manhattan raw food restaurant, Pure Food and Wine. Sarma started One Lucky Duck to help bring the raw, vegan and organic lifestyle out of the underground and into the mainstream.
At One Lucky Duck, you can find all kinds of amazing raw vegan snacks from raw macaroons to chocolate chip cookies, handmade in small batches in the kitchen at NYC’s raw vegan restaurant, Pure Food and Wine.
We visited the Chelsea Market location and I was so excited to step inside this cafe!
We did all kinds of NYC sightseeing on this day of our travels, so the market was a nice change of pace after rushing around all day.
I bashfully asked the server if I could snap a picture or two. I don’t know about you other bloggers, but I get shy when I take pictures of food…!
It’s a really cute & cozy cafe. All of their products are on the wall including a fridge for fresh juices and whatnot. I got myself a few goodies (macaroons, raw chocolate, and buckwheat crispies) and a shot of wheatgrass for good measure.
It was hard to choose! I’ve somehow managed to open everything over the past few days and everything tastes incredible. I especially fell in love with the buckwheat cinnamon crispies (below). Maybe I can make these at home too? It’s on my list. ;)

My husband had a heart attack in April and they put 3 stints, in since then my daughter and I started looking for answers, my daughter found your sight , and you saved our Thanksgiving ! Our favorite food was the vegan gravy it really was to die for good .We are also doing fat free and salt free. I left out the oil and cut the soy sauce and used the reduced sodium kind . I drained the Tahini instead of mixing in the oil and it’s great to use in recipes with alot less fat. Any way I just have to say thank you, I check your site every day!
Anything vegan with the pumpkin + chocolate combo!
First time post – not vegan but I love your site and your recipes! I have to say it would be your no bake chocolate avocado torte – it blew my mind how good it was.
my favourite vegan food is probably the vegan cupcakes my fiancée makes from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World. They’re better than non-vegan cupcakes!
My favortie vegan food is anything with root veggies in it.
My favorite vegan entree is your Avocado Pasta – seriously, I am addicted! And my favorite vegan dessert is vegan pecan chocolate chip cookies. Yum! …I want both right now! :)
I love all vegan breakfast foods. Pumpkin pancakes are on the top of my list!
I could use a pick-me-up! One3 of my favorite vegan foods are the fabulous cookies from the Alternative Baking Company. I am a salad lover, too!! Favorite salad topper? NUTRITIONAL YEAST is a must have! Also love some freshly roasted pepitas.
Kale drizzled in olive oil and sea salt that’s been baked until bright and chewy. Yum !
Hard to pick but I would say hummus!! So many diferent ways to flavor it–but my favorite will always be roasted red pepper (with a little bit of cumin added for smokiness)! Love it!
Aww you made it worldwide. I’m loving you a little bit right now, I’m stressed and could so do with a box of vegan goodies in my life!
Favourite vegan food.. the day I discovered the raw banoffee pie from The Living Food Kitchen here in the UK was so good. Wish I lived in London/could afford chilled delivery so I could eat it more often!!
Vegan mac ‘n cheese…I was totally skeptical at first about even trying it, but after the first bite I was IN LOVE!!
Oatmeal with dark chocolate almond milk is my fave!
I cant pick just one good vegan food! Creamy avacado pasta, veggie burgers, vegan pumpkin cheesecake, cookies …. Thank you for all of the awesome recipes!!
Your peanut butter, jam, and banana breakfast pizza!
Oh my gosh, that is so awesome! I’ve been dreaming about One Lucky Duck since grabbing Sarma’s and Matthew Kenney’s RAW book years ago!!!
My fave vegan dish…sadly, I think that I’m going to have to go with good ole quinoa salad. Toss some raw kale (chopped) into the bowl with EVOO, Braggs and cayenne pepper; mix it up so that the kale softens some and then toss warm quinoa over top. Add in some kidney beans or chickpeas or black beans and season with some more sauce. Love this over some greens! Keeps me going for hours!!!
Angela – I live in NYC and you’ve already visited more places than I have!! Real life gets in the way and my “must-go” list is still a mile long. I work right in Rockefeller Center and was so excited to see you took pictures of the lights that are right outside my building, it’s a magical place to be at Christmastime!
My favorite vegan meal that I’ve had (that I haven’t cooked) is… ok, it’s a 3-way tie. The vegan club sandwich from Curly’s Vegetarian in East Village, the Micro platter from Angelica’s Kitchen in East Village and the vegan India platter from Candle Cafe in the UES… I think I love food too mucht o decide :)
Commercial product? Hail Merry’s chocolate tart. Oh MY GOODNESS GOOD!!! I WILL be figuring out how to make those at home…. That I make? Probably my salad because I love being able to make it with just the perfect balance of ingredients for the mood I’m in that day. Very rewarding….. Then there’s always my pumpkin seeds….speaking of which, I still have some to roast!
My fav vegan food has to be dough balls. Of any kind. In mass quantities. :)
One of my favorite vegan foods are bananas! I’m a HUGE smoothie and ice cream fan, but can’t have dairy. Thanks to frozen bananas I can make endless options of cold creamy delicious smoothies and “ice creams”!!
