I had my first One Lucky Duck experience in NYC after hearing so many good things about it over the past few years. One Lucky Duck was founded in 2005 by Sarma Melngailis, the co-creator of the Manhattan raw food restaurant, Pure Food and Wine. Sarma started One Lucky Duck to help bring the raw, vegan and organic lifestyle out of the underground and into the mainstream.
At One Lucky Duck, you can find all kinds of amazing raw vegan snacks from raw macaroons to chocolate chip cookies, handmade in small batches in the kitchen at NYC’s raw vegan restaurant, Pure Food and Wine.
We visited the Chelsea Market location and I was so excited to step inside this cafe!
We did all kinds of NYC sightseeing on this day of our travels, so the market was a nice change of pace after rushing around all day.
I bashfully asked the server if I could snap a picture or two. I don’t know about you other bloggers, but I get shy when I take pictures of food…!
It’s a really cute & cozy cafe. All of their products are on the wall including a fridge for fresh juices and whatnot. I got myself a few goodies (macaroons, raw chocolate, and buckwheat crispies) and a shot of wheatgrass for good measure.
It was hard to choose! I’ve somehow managed to open everything over the past few days and everything tastes incredible. I especially fell in love with the buckwheat cinnamon crispies (below). Maybe I can make these at home too? It’s on my list. ;)

Not sure if the giveaway is still open, but I love no meat meatloaf with tomatoes!!!
Hi Angela,
I’ve been vegan now for almost three months, and I LOVE it. I’ve rekindled my love of veggies… and even developed tastes for plants I previously despised (I used to consider celery an unnecessary evil to any dish, and now I eat it EVERY day).
But my favorite food is sweet potato. I. Love. Sweet Potato. If I could eat it every day, at every meal. Barbecued? Bliss. As Chips or Fries? Heaven. Whipped with coconut milk and topped with chopped pecans? Divine.
Any way you slice ’em, Sweet Potatoes are a wonderful, nourishing food :)
Hello, can I first start off by saying how much I love your blog! I read it almost everyday and my son who is aspiring to be a chef… which he was just accepted to CIA (culinary institue of America) loves it too! We have made sooo many of your recipes and I love them all and so does my son. He saw your giveaway and it blew him away! He is not vegan nor am I, but he’s learing to appreciate less animal meat and really loving veggie based dishes. Our favorite vegan dish is definitely Chana Masala. Enjoy your time in California!
During these winter months I can’t get enough of my homemade veggie chili – always served with avocado and just a dollop of Vegenaise.
I’ve also made your Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (so many times I’ve lost count) and they’ve been deemed the best cookies by myself, my husband his grad school classmates and my co-workers :)
My favorite vegan food is a candy that includes almond butter, walnuts, coconut, dates and carob. It is in The Kind Diet book.
My favorite vegan food is my own weirdo smoothie creation: kale-cherry-cranberry. (I use pumpkin seeds, dates, and some protein powder in it, too.) I know it may sound crazy, but believe me, it’s remarkably good.
Oh!, and while I’m at it… I have some kale-pulverizing advice for all of us regular blender saps (i.e. without Vitamix-es or the like). The way I start my smoothies off is with a couple tablespoons of pumpkin seeds, a date, and a cup of water (or almond milk if you want to get really rich about it). Then I blend that small amount on the highest setting for a minute or two to make a creamy pumpkin seed milk. Theeen, I add in my kale, and blend just the fresh milk + kale mixture for another minute or two on the highest setting. Blending the kale in this way before adding the bulk of the ingredients (fruits, powders, etc) really achieves a smooth consistency in my blender (a three year-old standard Black and Decker). No chewy kale bits here! :)
My favorite vegan food is your creamy avocado pasta! And your vegan chocolate chip cookies :)
It is so hard to choose just one favorite. I really love wraps; they are so versatile and offer so many options I’m a sucker for a healthy wrap filled with veggies, hummus or beans. Also, I recently made your sweet potato recipe and your vegan chocolate chip cookies, they both are so delicious and are at the top of my list. :)
My favorite vegan food is guacamole… Before I became vegan, I never tried it and thought it was gross looking. I decided to try it once I transitioned into a vegan diet, and I haven’t stopped eating it since! Yummmmmy!
Hmm.. my favourite vegan food would be your double chocolate torte and your chocolate and banana layered VOO :D Everything on this site is so delicious!
I love spaghetti squash topped with roasted veggies!
Hmm…I made your rustic pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, and it was so good I had the leftovers for breakfast and lunch the next day! I also love your butternut squash Mac and cheese!! :)
lately my fave has been nutritional yeast – maybe it’s the preggo hormones, but I love it!
I’d have to say vegan cupcakes (I feel unhealthy just posting that :p). My favorite are the chocolate avocado cupcakes that I made from a recipe in Vegetarian Times. So good!!
It is tough to choose just one thing as a favorite, but since I must, it would be Vegan Chocolate Cake with Peanut-butter Frosting.
Hands down, it’s gotta be vegan pumpkin cheesecake. It always gets eaten up before the non-vegan desserts at our Thanksgiving dinner! (Maybe because I had 4 pieces??)
I love Vegan Apple Muffins- I’ve yet to have a vegan recipe that’s fallen flat!
I know this is boring but I love me some rice and beans!
I am comletely hooked on BBQ Black Bean Pita Pizzas!!! They are amazing and delicious! Just take a whole wheat pita, put a layer of BBQ (LOVE Trader Joes!) then a generous amount of black beans, followed by chopped red onion and juicy pineapple bits! Top with Daiya Mozz. shreds and back to melty perfection! I am completely hooked!
I have so many favorite vegan foods, and thanks to you I have broadened my food horizon!
Top on the list are your veggie burgers and pumpkin mac and cheese. i.die!!!
