I had my first One Lucky Duck experience in NYC after hearing so many good things about it over the past few years. One Lucky Duck was founded in 2005 by Sarma Melngailis, the co-creator of the Manhattan raw food restaurant, Pure Food and Wine. Sarma started One Lucky Duck to help bring the raw, vegan and organic lifestyle out of the underground and into the mainstream.
At One Lucky Duck, you can find all kinds of amazing raw vegan snacks from raw macaroons to chocolate chip cookies, handmade in small batches in the kitchen at NYC’s raw vegan restaurant, Pure Food and Wine.
We visited the Chelsea Market location and I was so excited to step inside this cafe!
We did all kinds of NYC sightseeing on this day of our travels, so the market was a nice change of pace after rushing around all day.
I bashfully asked the server if I could snap a picture or two. I don’t know about you other bloggers, but I get shy when I take pictures of food…!
It’s a really cute & cozy cafe. All of their products are on the wall including a fridge for fresh juices and whatnot. I got myself a few goodies (macaroons, raw chocolate, and buckwheat crispies) and a shot of wheatgrass for good measure.
It was hard to choose! I’ve somehow managed to open everything over the past few days and everything tastes incredible. I especially fell in love with the buckwheat cinnamon crispies (below). Maybe I can make these at home too? It’s on my list. ;)

Leave a comment below telling me one of your favourite vegan foods and I’ll pick One Lucky Duck on Tuesday! Goodluck. :)
This contest is open to anyone, anywhere in the world.
So hard to name one, but some of my favs are falafels made with green peas instead of chick peas (sux being allergic to chick peas), pav bhaji with tofu in it (so that it has some protein and is a main meal instead of a side), and vegan chocolate cake. Oh, and kachori with date chutney. And french fries. Any type, made with idaho potatoes, sweet potatoes, or even yams. It’s all good. And salad. Urgh, I just love food.
vegan chocolate chip cookies, of course!
My favorite vegan food are green monsters! For chillier weather, though fresh kale chips, or mac and “cheese”! YUMMM!
I love your vegan enchilada recipe and the butternut squash burrito recipe. So delightful!
My fave vegan foods are kale chips and larabars! One Lucky Duck sounds amazing! Looks like a great trip to NYC :)

hmmm …anything with chocolate or peanut butter!! I especially adore overnight oats with a big scoop of peanut butter and a little bit of coco powder. What a perfect way to start the day!!
I love making the almond flour ginger cookies from Elana’s Pantry.
my favorite vegan food is a veg stir-fry with rice noodles and crispy cubes of tofu. i eat it at restaurants, make it at home, and honestly could eat it seven days a week.
thanks for hosting this giveaway! looks great.
I have been on a serious kale chip kick lately…spray with a little olive oil, top with salt and pepper, then baked til crispy. Mmmm!
Enjoy reading your NYC blog – makes we want to book a trip! I am making your vegan lasagna this weekend. Can’t wait. Wish me luck. Enjoy the rest of your amazing trip.
My favorite vegan food is a treat from Wholefoods-chocolate chip scones. However I really want to try one of your vegan mac n cheezes. Just needed to (wo)man up and get to it!
I’m currently a huge fan of udon noodles in peanut sauce.
Being a new vegan, my favorite food is spring rolls with seasoned tempeh, carrots, cucumbers, and sprouts.
Barely sauteed spinach with a bit of garlic, onion and salt, pureed into soup. Simple and incredibly tasty.
Hi Angela!
My favorite vegan food is Indian and Brazilian! (I’m Brazilian and I tweak all kinds of family recipes to give them a delicious vegan touch) Speaking of Brazil, I would just love love love to win this giveaway, because then I can bring it to my family at the end of the year and convince them that vegans eat delicious too! (not too mention I’m a fan of all things sweet :) )
Mmm; you are One Lucky Duck to have gone on such an amazing trip! Every vegan food is my favourite :) But, if I had to choose a few that I always crave I’d say: dehydrated kiwis and strawberries, banana “ice cream” and nutritional yeast.
Oh gosh… can’t pick just one! A current fav right now though (making it as I type) is your curry butternut squash hummus. Slight variation – add a bit of maple syrup to the hummus and then also drizzle some on top with the olive oil and garam masala. Then slice up some really really thin apple slices and whip up some candied almonds – add both on top to add a little bit of a crunch and serve with crackers (Nature Valley variation of wheat thins work nicely). Hellllooooo holiday hummus :) Your recipes rock!! Thank you for always providing holiday party hits!
And on a second note – headed to NYC in a few weeks to study with Dharma Mitra for a few days… don’t know if I’m more excited to practice or to eat! I only have 4 days – what are the 4 MUST VISIT places?! I’m overwhelmed with options and need some direction :)
Oh and the curry powder in the hummus – use garam masala for that too… and lots of it!
Green monsters :)
I’m a vegetarian who is considering being vegan. I’m hoping Pure Food and Wine will come to LA so I can have their vegan lasagna again without traveling back to NYC!
