I had my first One Lucky Duck experience in NYC after hearing so many good things about it over the past few years. One Lucky Duck was founded in 2005 by Sarma Melngailis, the co-creator of the Manhattan raw food restaurant, Pure Food and Wine. Sarma started One Lucky Duck to help bring the raw, vegan and organic lifestyle out of the underground and into the mainstream.
At One Lucky Duck, you can find all kinds of amazing raw vegan snacks from raw macaroons to chocolate chip cookies, handmade in small batches in the kitchen at NYC’s raw vegan restaurant, Pure Food and Wine.
We visited the Chelsea Market location and I was so excited to step inside this cafe!
We did all kinds of NYC sightseeing on this day of our travels, so the market was a nice change of pace after rushing around all day.
I bashfully asked the server if I could snap a picture or two. I don’t know about you other bloggers, but I get shy when I take pictures of food…!
It’s a really cute & cozy cafe. All of their products are on the wall including a fridge for fresh juices and whatnot. I got myself a few goodies (macaroons, raw chocolate, and buckwheat crispies) and a shot of wheatgrass for good measure.
It was hard to choose! I’ve somehow managed to open everything over the past few days and everything tastes incredible. I especially fell in love with the buckwheat cinnamon crispies (below). Maybe I can make these at home too? It’s on my list. ;)

Three most very favorites – green pumpkin pie smoothies with Vanilla Chai Vega and spinach added to green them up, OhSheGlow’s 2011 fall recipes for the best vegan burgers and the butternut squash black bean burritos. I keep my freezer stocked with ready to cook versions of the last two at all times!
My favorite vegan food is kale chips! They are so crunchy and satisfying I never miss “real” chips. Great giveaway :)
I’ve been on a work trip in Ethiopia, which has an ancient legacy of vegetarian (and some vegan) dishes. They have an amazing hot curry-type dish called shiro, made of spiced chick peas and tomato and onion. When they make it with olive oil (instead of butter) then it’s vegan, and best of all, you eat it with your hands by scooping it up into injera, a native bread that I am pretty sure is also vegan, made out of Teff flour.
My organic produce delivery box has recipes on their website and I recently found a recipe for Honey-Butter Glazed Brussel Sprouts. Not originally vegan, but a few easy swaps (i.e. Earth Balance, I love you!) makes it work. The recipe is essentially mixing the margarine and sweetener, tossing in the veggies and cooking until caramelized, then topping with chili flakes and smoked sea salt. I also tried this with some chopped fresh kale. Any which way, these “honey-butter glazed” veggies are my current addiction!
My favorite vegan food is any kind of cookie that my sister makes!
My favorite vegan food -homemade black bean burgers. Making them today for dinner :)
There is a little cafe in my city that makes a “tofishy” sandwich with vegan tarter fresh lettuce tomato and red onion on a freshly baked roll. But spinach and mushroom lasagna with tofu ricotta and almond parmesean holds a soft spot with me too
Looks like you had a wonderful trip to NY! I went out last night to celebrate by boyfriend’s birthday and we went to this veggie place that had the most amazing cauliflower curry…That has to be my favourite vegan food -At the moment anyway ;)
My favorite, right now, would be chocolate chip cookies with whole wheat flour, chia eggs, and earth blance. It’s so exciting to eat delicious vegan things and I learned about the chia egg and earth balance butter replacement from you! So, thank you!!
polenta pizza is the best!
Vegan mac n cheeze of course(:
i make your vegan white rolls at least every other week for my family because they are awesome! and my husband requested that i make them for his office thanksgiving party. i love all of your recipes that i have made. i hope i am a lucky duck.
I love a baked sweet potato topped with cinnamon and almond butter. It makes a great breakfast, a side for lunch or supper, or even a snack or dessert! Yum!
