I’m pooped!
Lugging around a SLR camera to photograph every morsel I eat is tiring.
The biggest and most welcome surprise with food blogging has been that it has prevented me from snacking so much. Having to take a picture with a SLR camera is a big production, so the thought of dragging out the camera to snap a picture of a few crackers is daunting.
Food blogging gives me a structure to adhere to- 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day.
Working from home is hard because food is available 24/7 and is lurking around every corner! I think structure is a great thing for me and is a habit I hope will continue after the food blogging ends.
Food blogging has changed the way I eat slightly. It really has made me think about two things 1) Variety, and 2) Nutritional quality.
Now, I have always thought about these things before, but it just seems more heightened when I am taking pictures of everything I eat. I have started to look deeper into my cupboards to see what we can use up and my creativity has been spinning more than usual.
Eric and I also didn’t get groceries this week to save some money. I wanted to use up all the stuff we had pushed away in the back of our cupboards. As a result of this, I have used up many great items- frozen veggies, canned tomatoes, tabouli, produce (that might have otherwise gone bad), sauces, and soups. It is amazing how long we can last just off the food in our cupboards, isn’t it?
This has been fun and I think it is nice to be able to show you what I eat over the course of a few days or more. I like showing that yes, I do eat a lot of food, and I am damn proud of it. Long gone are the days when I would eat a measly iceberg salad for my lunch. I like to show you that you can eat a lot of delicious and healthy foods and not have to deprive yourself.
When I was deep into disordered eating I never would have dreamed that I could eat this much food (and feel ok about it). My life has done a complete 180 and for that I have food blogs to thank and a lot of daily persistence.
Taking the time to nurture my body with good food has really given me a richer, more enjoyable life.
I’m curious, how has food blogging (or food blogs) affected the way you eat?
See you tomorrow for everything I ate today + 2 new delicious meal and snack ideas!
A lot of what you said rings true for me, also. I think the biggest change food blogging has made in me is that I actually THINK more about what I’m eating, rather than just grabbing fast food or a bag of chips to snack on. I love the accountability it’s given me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this subject.
My eating habits have changed to since I started a food blog. I make sure I get more fruits and veggies in!
I think it’s great you put that cam away :) I am terrified because very soon my budget is going to be squeezed, and my grocery list is the one that will really suffer. I’m going to have to learn to get creative on the CHEAP.
I guess you could consider Spark People a blog. It is a tremendous help!
At the end of the day I used to be ashamed of how much I eat. Now it’s ok. I get healthy, but too much of a good thing usually goes bad. I’m way better now that I’ve realized how much I was consuming. Also 17lbs lighter!
Man I have become such a healthier and more daring eater!!! I love it, it keeps me accountable and creative. By the way Ange I love the new banner!
You are doing such an amazing job with your blog and making such an impact! Thank you!
There are a lot of ways that food blogging has changed the way I eat. For one thing, I actually put my food on a plate and give some thought to what it looks like on the plate. I know this sounds crazy but after having two kids pretty close together, I had few years there where I was just randomly grazing throughout the day, going through drive thrus and mindlessly feeding my body. I never felt satisfied and as a result, put on more weight than I ever thought I was capable of.
I now slow down, eat while sitting down, and make up a plate that looks satisfying and is balanced nutritionally. I love getting creative with it all.
I also LOVE Green Monsters thanks to you and I have discovered oatmeal thanks to Kath. The Green Monsters have been so great for my troubled skin.
Again, thank you!
I don’t think you eat ‘a lot’ at all, particularly not given the intensity of your training…anyone who says that you do is probably stuck in their own disordered box of 1200 calories a day or something ridiculous like that, most likely pedealled by a diet industry that has grown with the same rapidity as the obesity crisis. Correlation anyone?
Food blogging hasn’t changed me much, but it has made me indentify areas where I have gone ‘over the top’ and therefore precipitated an awareness of them so hopefully I can be more vigilant in the future. Also, I know if I do end up bingeing, I’m going to have to either abandon my posting (bad) or document it (worse!)

Apparently I also can’t spell: it should have said ‘pedalled’ in my last comment!
I definitely eat a lot more variety now and experiment a lot more in the kitchen. I’ve gotten so many great ideas from food blogs. And the great realization that I can eat a lot more that I thought I could! Because I had some disordered eating patterns, I don’t document everything I eat. I don’t think that would be a healthy thing for me, personally. But I like to document the culinary pursuits that I am particularly proud of!
I love food blogs because of the new foods and ideas they have introduced me to! I hope I do the same thing for my readers. I’m especially interested in how other bloggers who are training for specific events are fueling up and taking care of themselves. And I have to admit, when I’m feeling lazy and uninspired, I just jump online and read a blog and that usually gives me a push when I see what others are up to!

I love creating dishes with stuff you want to clear out…it’s fun!
Enjoy!
I love food blogs. Or I should say healthy living blogs. I really has helped me in the way that I view food. For sometime I was afraid to eat (but I would anyway). Now after reading so many blogs about normal women trying to stay fit and healthy it made me see that as long as you treat your body right with exercise, plenty of fruits and veggies it doesn’t matter what you eat. If I want a slice of pizza I shouldn’t feel guilty cause for the most part I fill by body with healthy foods.
I love how creative food blogging makes me, I am constantly inspired by other delicious meals I see on other blogs and my mind is constantly turning now, so I come up with cool creations of my own. I love that I can eat anything I want, but do it healthfully and without shame. I honestly love everything about it. Of course, I like to provide more depth to my blog besides just chronicals of what I eat. But that in and of itself is so fun!
I started food blogging in the hopes that it would stop my excessive snacking (I am trying to lose weight) and that has definitely happened! Also, I am forced to add a lot more variety into my diet which is great because I usually tend to stick with the same things and I’ve learned so much about different foods this way.
Sometimes reading food blogs makes me feel a little guilty if I’ve overeaten or had a bad food day but overall I find it’s helped me with portion control. Someone telling you what a portion would look like and actually seeing it are two completely different things.
I don’t foodblog myself but I’ve found that keeping a food diary also helps prevent the mindless snacking, you think twice about it when you’ve got to write it down.
Food blogging has definitely affected the way I eat. I hate posting on something like, “today I ate a peanut butter sandwich and an apple” – who wants to read about that?? I have been motivated not only to eat healthy, but to come up with interesting and photogenic recipes so my site looks pretty. I think it’s been a great thing!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it all. I would imagine blogging everything IS tiring! :O)
