Yesssss Maim!!!!! :D
They turned out fabulously this time!! And I’m in such a good mood I am going to reveal the first Glo Bakery Glonut recipe with all of you. :)
The modifications that I made were spot on! These doughnuts came out lighter, sweeter, and more doughnut-like in my opinion.
They are vegan to boot!
Ingredients:
Dough:
- 1 T water
- 1/2 T ground flax
- 1.2 t egg replacer
- 1 T water
- 1/4 t apple cider vinegar
- 1/3 cup soymilk
- 1/4 cup pumpkin
- 1/2 t pure vanilla extract
- 1 T EVOO
- 1/2 cup raw cane sugar
- 3/4 cup + 2 T all purpose flour
- 1 t baking powder
- 1/2 t salt (or a bit less)
- 1 t cinnamon
- 1/2 t nutmeg
- 1/4 t ginger
Maple Glaze:
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1.5 T pure maple syrup
- 1.5 t soymilk
Makes 20 mini glonuts.
Directions: Preheat oven to 350F. Mix the egg replacer with the tablespoon of water and whisk together in a bowl. Next add the ground flax and 1 T water and whisk. In a separate small bowl mix together the vinegar and the soy milk and set aside. In a saucepan over low heat, add the pumpkin, vanilla, sugar, and EVOO. Stir well several times until sugar dissolves. Now add the flax mixture and stir well. Finally add the soymilk mixture and stir well. Make sure you keep the saucepan on the lowest heat setting as you only want it to get warm.
In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg). Now take the wet mixture and beat it on high speed to get it frothy and bubbly (see picture below). Now pour it over the dry ingredients. Stir just until combined but no longer. It should only take about 10 strokes to mix the batter.
Now spoon the dough into ungreased doughnut pans or shape the doughnuts or doughnut holes by hand using wet hands. Bake for 11 mins.
While baking, make the maple glaze.
Maple Glaze: Stir the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and soymilk very well. You might want to sift your icing sugar beforehand to get the clumps out. If your mixture is too thick, add soymilk gradually to thin out.
After removing the doughnuts from the oven, let cool for a couple minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
Once they are cool, dip them in the maple glaze and let sit to dry.
It’s hard to say given all the changes I made to my original recipe, however I do think beating the pumpkin mixture until very frothy made for a lighter doughnut!
We have air bubbles! Air bubbles in batter = lighter dough!
This dough was much easier to mix. It took me only about 8-10 strokes to just mix it together. Remember the less you mix it, the less ‘chewy’ and ‘tough’ your dough will turn out.
After baking for just 11 minutes! I made 12 small, 4 large, and 2 ‘glonut holes’ :)
I see holes where air bubbles used to be! This batch of doughnuts also turned out smoother on the top.
My mini glonut hole! How cute! You could definitely make doughnut muffins too!
Time to dip them in the maple glaze…this part is lots of fun and VERY easy! After dipping, I topped mine with raw turbinado sugar. It added the perfect crunch!
Make sure you line your cooling rack with parchment or wax paper- it will save lots of clean up time.
Of course I had to make a dark chocolate dipped one too! To do this I melted the chocolate with a little bit of olive oil margarine (to thin it out). The chocolate was Eric’s favourite! (Of course! lol).
I loved these mini holes/muffins :) I used some petit four liners.
I LOVED these glonuts!!!!! They are going straight to my bakery!
I am also going to experiment with replacing the pumpkin for bananas, and also possibly chopped apples. Maybe mango?? The possibilities are endless!
I packaged up the glonuts as a birthday gift for my Aunt who is visiting tomorrow! Hopefully she enjoys them as much as we did!
Eric and I got a second workout in today- cleaning the house! We cleaned for a long time and still have lots left to do! I did about 4 loads of laundry, cleaned the main level bathroom, swept all floors, vacuumed all floors, cleaned the sink/stovetop/counters, did dishes, windexed the french door panels, and tidied the office!
Eric was also cleaning lots! He cleaned up the basement for a long time (it was in a disaster from all the renos), he vacuumed the entry way, living room, office, staircase, and dining room. He also did some laundry and yardwork! I am lucky that I have a husband who helps out- even if I do have to bug him to do it and ‘give him a list’ :) I used to get annoyed that I had to ask him to do things (implying that it was MY job and he was doing me a favour by helping!), but now I just try to appreciate the fact that he does do his share of work.
Tonight’s question: Do you and your significant other (or roommates) share the cleaning list? Do you split up certain chores that you always do?
Eric and I both do pretty much everything. The kitchen is my domain though since I mess it up with the bakery. He does dishes and helps clean the floors, but the deep down cleaning is my responsibility. We also both do bathrooms, laundry, and all other chores. He does most of the garbage and I do it on occasion! He is the resident spider/creepy-crawly remover too! Oh- and I do ALL the cooking!! lol.
I’m off to prepare for tomorrow’s dinner menu and then Eric and I are going to Tag Team Clean our master bathroom. [Uh oh I just told him this and he’s not pleased!!!] ;)
Psssttt…Check out my newly updated ‘About’ page!
Enjoy your night!
Yummy donuts. My husband normally helps me with the dishes, laundry and when he is in a very good mood, he’ll cook too ;~)
Angela,
I have been reading your blogs for months now but this is the first time I have commented. However, do not take that as an indication of my lack of interest. I check in with your blog several times a day and absolutely love everything you have going on, especially pics of Sketchie (so cute!!).
I have the same kind of thing going on with my husband. He is more than willing to help out but I usually have to give him a list or provoke him to get started. But I think you definitely have the right attitude about it. Not that it is right in ANY WAY but many wives can’t get their husbands to do anything around the house. I can’t imagine things being that extreme so I don’t mind having to push my husband along or giving him a few instructions to get him going!

Those donuts look awesome! You have inspired me to try them out, I have to find myself some donut pans though.
For cleaning me and my husband both hate it so we have a lovely cleaning lady that comes every two weeks! It is pure bliss..I am glad we can afford this luxery! I do have to nag him to mow the lawn though….
If I didn’t clean, my boyfriend would probably just live in the mess! It’s ok though because sometimes I just get in cleaning modes and don’t mind doing it :)
…and the glonuts look great!
My hubby does dishes(cuz I cook), garbage, grass cutting and usually the laundry. He will NOT touch the bathrooms or the litter box. Everything else we pretty much “share”.
Lovely doughnuts! Glad you’re happy with the final results1
My boyfriend does almost all the cooking so I do most of the cleaning, but if I need the help I give him the list and he always helps! Laundry and Litter Box are all mine though. Woohoo! Not! Glonuts look great!
Nice job on the doughnuts, they sound awesome!
I do most of the cleaning around here. I have a little bit of OCD when it comes to cleaning and my boyfriend…well, he is far from that. He’ll help me out if I ask him to or he sees that something needs to be done. But most of the time I am the one cleaning, because in my eyes it’s never clean enough in here.
Question about your pumpkin recipe…I have all the ingredients and want to make them. But I only have eggs, flax, and obviously water. No egg replacer. So what proportions should I use? Thanks! :)

Beautiful Glonuts! I adore anything pumpkin!!
Way to go on the cleaning.
My hubby and I share most everything…cleaning, cooking, baby-care. He takes care of the dog and I take care of the cat. I WILL NOT let him touch the laundry…learned that lesson early! :)
I do the finances because it makes him furious and I love to crunch numbers.
He kills all the bugs.
Ha! :)
GLONUTS!!! AMAZiNG!!! I would like some please :)
I have an embarassingly small part of the chores list – my husband even does my laundry!
My husband sometimes washes the balcony or bathrooms for me. He is the one who will throw the trash too. Sometimes he would hang the clothes for me but whenever he does, my clothes become even more creased lol. I prefer to vacuum & mop floor and clean the dishes myself because sometimes he can make more mess with these! haha. I do ALL the cooking too :)
I clean the bathroom and kitchen inc all the dishes and do the laundry, my bf does the majority of the tidying, cleans the guinea pigs, usually takes the bin out and does the hoovering, we change the bed together and usually do the cleaning and tidying together we just have our jobs, it works well cause I absolutely detest doing the hoovering! hate it!
I think I have it quite good! OH does the washing, I do the ironing. I do the cooking, he does the clearing up. I do the dusting and cleaning, he does the hoovering. I would say we share things fairly evenly!
Steve and I share most of the house work.. including cleaning, laundry and cooking. He typically cleans the bathroom though (I can’t stand it).
Those doughnuts look absolutely divine! I’m definitely going to have to invest in a pan now to get those perfect little shapes.
Sebastian and I usually share the housework. I’m big on tidying the apartment in the morning and he’s great about dusting and vacuuming. We both take the garbage out (since the chute is at the end of our hall!) and we share the cleaning/cooking responsibilities – if I cook, he cleans up or vice versa. Other than that, we usually spend one weekend morning every week doing a full apartment cleaning together and I only have to refocus him if he gets distracted by something on SportsCenter! ;-)
Oh my those glonuts look amazing! I want one RIGHT NOW lol
And your house looks spotless!
My husband and I are uber traditional…he takes out the garbage and I cook and clean. He goes to work and I stay home and read blogs! Ahh life is good :D
This past year I lived in a house with 6 other females and I found myself doing most of the cleaning (especially the kitchen) because I couldn’t handle how messy it was. Sometimes I’d have to clean pots and pans just to use them!
This is one reason I’m actually looking forward to moving home- I can’t wait to use my parents nice clean kitchen!
Congrats on the donuts! I knew you would get the perfect recipe sooner or later. Hope the cleaning goes well, looks like you guys have a good system.
I was wondering if you would help me with something. I have a sandwich in the Arnold’s Sandwich contest (http://www.arnoldsandwichchallenge.com/)and would really like some blogger votes :). I no longer have a blog, so I was wondering if you would maybe announce this contest on yours? I would love it if you could do so. My sandwich is the Roasted Red Pepper and Spinach Grilled Cheese with Pesto Mayo. Thanks :)
Wow, those look awesome Angela! Will have to try.
