Happy Halloween!
Before I get to part 1 of the giveaway, I want to share a last-minute Halloween idea.
I present to you: Spooky Shakes…
They are more homely than scary, but let’s just go with it!
I spotted this on Martha and I thought it was a cute idea. To make: all you do is melt a tiny amount of chocolate (about 1-2 tbsp) and then paint chocolate ghost faces on the inside of the glass using the end of a popsicle stick. Easy.
Place the glasses in the freezer or fridge to set the chocolate. For the shake, I blended vegan vanilla ice cream (I love almond or coconut varieties), with a splash of almond milk and some ice, served with a cinnamon stick. You could even make a healthier shake by blending frozen bananas with almond milk. The chocolate faces stay intact thanks to the cold smoothies.
Now, for part 1 of the giveaway…
Today, I’m celebrating YOU – the kick-butt, Green Monster chuggin, recipe-lovin’ Oh She Glows community! On October 31, 2008, I started the blog on a complete whim, not thinking I would ever have the attention span to stick with it, but here I am 4 years later still smashing my head against the keyboard daily and chasing my dreams. I am so grateful for each and every one of you who read the blog each day and my hope is that you find as much inspiration here as I’ve found in all of you.
Now, to celebrate!

I would tell myself to keep a journal of all my accomplishments, no matter how big or small, and to look in the mirror every day, and tell myself I matter to ME. I think everyone grows up with some self esteem issues, and confidence in yourself can take you a long way through life!
such an awesome giveaway! we have a green smoothie every morning & it would be awesome to have a high powered blender for homemade hummus & baby food…because my toddler can put away the hummus. there is something magic about hummus & kids. i think it might be a consistency thing :)

Dear 14-year-old me: Stop trying so hard to please everyone around you and be “cool” You’re going to have an awesome life!
Dear Mini Me,
Having been a band nerd is actually pretty cool later in life. Stick with it.
Elise
I would tell myself to not go out for cheerleading, spend money on a good pair of running shoes and not quit track. Oh and to never, ever go out with that one guy!!
I would like to say to my younger self don’t feel defeated or depressed when your older children say they hate you and your not their Mom. Remember those are in the heat of the moment comments they love you and eventually come back to you and have a whole new respect for you as a person and as a Mom. Also remember they have to find their own way in life you taught them well.
Tweeted it!
I would tell myself to stick with it! There are so many things that I had quit when I was younger that I always look back on and wish I would have kept up.
“Tweeted” the giveaway! :)
I would advise my younger self to listen to herself, to her interests, so that she would pursue her own dreams and not what other people thought she should do. Don’t be afraid to fail! Try, try again. Live your passion.
Don’t know if it’s too late but…
Dear 16 year old self,
Push for your dreams because only you can make that happen and no one else.
I would advise my 16 year old self to stop thinking in a one track mindset for her career. It is OK to develop other passions, and follow them too!
I would tell my younger self not to sweat the small stuff and to relax and enjoy your childhood for as long as you can!
Younger self…
Take college seriously the first time around. So many years wasted not finishing my education and not being able to help more people through healthcare. Still trying to get my degree 30 years later–while working full-time.
I would tell myself to do more that the bare minimum. Stop being so lazy!!!!
Quit worrying about the zits on your face, and eat some dessert and french fries every now and then without feeling guilty!
I would tell myself to start an exercise habit, pronto. It will be less painful later.
All those times I thought I knew better than my Mom did….WRONG! Totally should’ve listened.
To my younger self, Be proud of your ethnicity!
