Beauty Product Review + Crunchy Banana Coffee Cake

March 22, 2009

Hey there!

I have had a really productive day despite my lack of sleep last night!

I also caught up with phone calls with my mom and dad (both live on opposite ends of Canada!) and chatted with each of them for a good 45 mins.

Hopefully tomorrow I will chat with my sis about her exciting cruise that she just got back from (call me)! :)

I successfully created a new Glo Bakery product today! It was love at first bite.

Crunchy Banana Coffee Cake:

IMG_7623 IMG_7622

Ummm, can we say crunchy Turbinado sugar? Crunch, crunch, crunch. This cake was fun to eat- soft and gooey in the middle and crisp and crunchy on the outside.

This coffee cake is free of any butter or oil, yet super moist. Thank you BANANAS!

I finished updating the baked goods on my Glo Bakery website so far. Check it out! This week I will be adding nutritional info.

Beauty Product Review:

After hearing Wigg’s mention her Benefit Bad Gal brightening blue mascara, I knew I had to try it. My mascara has been dried out and tired for a few weeks now, so I knew I needed to splurge.

IMG_7591

The goal of this Blue mascara is to brighten the white of your eyes as well as brighten the intensity of your eye colour. Sounds pretty sweet right? But does it work?

IMG_7592

I admit, it looks a bit scary and downright clownish. But trust me, it doesn’t look blue at all once it is on the eyelashes. And my eye lashes are really fair too.

Sur Mes Yeux:

 ablog2ablog1

I would like to think that I noticed a difference with this mascara, but I really am not sure! I think my eyes did appear a bit brighter than normal, but not earth shatteringly different and probably not worth spending the extra money on this mid-range product.

However, the placebo effect for this product was pretty strong. Because I thought my eyes looked brighter, I believed it and I think this product gave me an extra sparkle in my eye (or extra confidence boost!). Moral of the story? Believe you are beautiful and you will look beautiful.

The mascara itself was a bit drier than I hoped and a few clumps persisted on my lashes despite rubbing off the wand with a tissue.

Overall, it was a fun change and I will certainly be using the rest of this tube up, but I don’t think it is worth it when comparing it to other drug store, low-range mascaras.

Overall Glow: 3.5/5 stars

Yoga:

Today I attempted Yoga outside.

I printed off a pose guide from Yoga Downloads.com and away I went.

Me attempting a Triangle pose…I am not perfectly aligned because I am being careful with my groin. :)

The only snag?

I thought it was a warm summer day and it only happened to be about 7C, which isn’t exactly outdoor yogi material. I was cold and did three quick poses and booted it back inside to the warmth of my glowing computer screen. lol.

I want to say that I came inside and did more yoga, but I’d be lying.

All and all it was a total rest day today! Those can be good though. :) I may do some abs tonight when watching 24.

Tonight’s Question: Do you enjoy your rest days? Do you look forward to them or do you feel guilt and like something is missing from your day?

Generally I don’t mind them when I am sick or really tired, but if I am otherwise feeling fine and I skip a workout I do feel ‘off’ the rest of the day.

Peace out health lovers!

Rest days. Sometimes, like when I am sick or tired, I love them, but most of the time, I feel like something is missing although not guilty per say. I know that what is best is giving my body that day to rest. It’s what is good in the long run! Lovely baking creation! Thanks so much for the comment. Btw, check out my blog bc I gave you an award :)

Sundays are always my rest days. I usually do laudry, cook for the week and other stuff before my week begins. Sometimes if I have time I squeeze something in but normally it is a “rest” day dispite the other things I do on this day! :) Also you cake looks srumptious!

Hi Angela,

great blog! I have random question- I just checked your super cute wedding and honeymoon photos and I love that purple dress you are wearing! At least it looks like some sort of purplish print, you have it on in several of the photos of you in Venice. where did you find it? it’s so cute!

As long as I’ve put in a tough workout the day before, I enjoy my rest days.

Thanks for the mascara review! I’ve always been a little wary of colored mascara. Good to know it doesn’t look too crazy on your lashes.

good review, I’m always looking for mascara.

you know I don’t really have complete rest days. I have days where I don’t do intense cardio..I need to be active, unless like you said I’m sick

it was disappointingly chilly today! we went for a bike ride and had to bundle up a lot more than planned. stupid weather. love your outdoor yoga though, even if for just a few minutes. we did our yoga for cyclists inside after!

i definitely enjoy my rest days.

The banana coffee cake looks amazing…

As for mascaras, I swear by Lash Blast…and I have gotten everyone I know into using it…

As for rest days, I know I need them, but I much prefer to do some sort of activity….unless Im sick and/or incredibly sore.

I’ve thought about doing yoga outside. I may have to give it a try.

I also feel a little “off” on my rest days. I love taking walk/hikes on my days off. Or, if I do a lot of shopping and walking around, that’s not too bad either.

Congrats on that delicious addition to the Glo Bakery! And I sometimes feel “off” on rest days, but usually, I acknowledge that they are much needed, and that my other workouts wouldn’t be as great without some rest in between. :)

I love rest days and have 1 or 2 a week! I try to plan them for days where I will be too busy to fit in exercise! The new globakery product looks delicious….as do all your other yummy treats! :)

Hi Angela, I started reading your blog about a week ago and I’ve gotten really intrigued by your green monsters. BUT, I can’t find Almond Breeze *anywhere* in my local grocery stores. Would you recommend anything else (soy milk, regular milk, yogurt) to replace that with? And would it be better to start with, say, small amounts of baby spinach and gradually increase it or switch to kale to let my system get used to the extra leafy veggies?
Thanks!!

My answer to your Q would be exactly how you answered it. If i’m really sick or tired I do feel alright about taking a day off but otherwise if I do think I could have gotten out there to do some movement then I do tend to feel ‘off’… or even guilty.

Yummy cake!
