I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??
Now for the giveaway fun! In my mind, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good cookbook and feeling more inspired with each turning page. Today’s giveaway highlights a couple awesome vegan cookbooks that I have in my collection as well as my favourite recipe creation tool that I reviewed recently – The Flavor Bible! I’m giving away all the books below to one lucky winner. If you happen to already own one or some of these cookbooks, I’ll be happy to send you an Amazon gift card instead. You decide. The books will be shipped new directly from Amazon.
In this giveaway:
Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton
Let Them Eat Vegan! is packed with 200 plant-powered recipes for the entire family. Dreena offers notes on how to modify her recipes for those with allergies or common substitution questions. Natural vegan ingredients are abundant in her recipes, many of which I already have in my own pantry. See my full review here.
Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero
Veganomicon is truly a work of art. With over 250 recipes for any occasion, this is a cookbook I turn to often. Whether you’re in the mood for something quick and easy or something fancy and elaborate, this book will have it. There are also handy user-friendly guides for soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, and quick and easy recipes.
The Flavor Bible by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg
The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

I just finished “Start Where you Are”. Great book about going for what you want.
I’m reading Crazy Sexy Kitchen. I want to transition to a more plant-based diet!
Hi, well I’m just starting to learn about being a vegan. Right now I’m reading a great book called What’s Eating Your Child? by Kelly Dorfman, M.S., L.N.D. and I just finished reading Skinny Bitch Cookbook and Crazy Sexy Diet. I need more help in cooking though. We are a family of 6 and have picky eaters that range from texture to taste differences. Tough to cook for this crowd at times.
Thanks for all your recipes.
K
The last book I read was The Host. It was a great fictional book to just break away from the daily norm!
I followed you on Twitter! @LivinLyssa

Following you on Instagram!
I’m reading Life of Pi at the moment. I resisted it for a long time because it was something that a lot of people were reading and I didn’t want to just be another sheep following the herd, but I ended up watching the film and LOVED it. Then I had to make a presentation about it for a class at university, so I decided to read the book after all. I’m blown away by it. It has so much depth, and the language is so colourful, vivid, magical. It takes me away to another world. And to top it off, it tells such a beautiful message of religion and faith (and I’m not at all a religious person — but the views are poetically and gracefully expressed). A must read. Definitely.
Since I am in school, it’s hard to read “fun” books. However, over Spring Break , my favorite book I read was Paris Wife. Also, at the beginning of the quarter I enjoyed reading Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
Good luck with the rest of the cookbook!
I’m simultaneously re-reading “crazy sexy diet”, “the detox beauty solution” and reading “undiet” for the first time… Just depends where I pick up my book.
Aloha! I’m currently reading “Disease-Proof Your Child” by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. I want to make sure I’m raising my four plant-based kids the right way! :) My family enjoys your recipes (we just had your blueberry banana overnight oats for breakfast!) and we look forward to your cookbook!
I read a lot, any kind of book. I love learning and reworking recipes. I must say these books would inspire me, become more creative and keeping in tune with my body as I am struggling. I am currently reading Suzanne Brockmann who takes you into a life of a navy Seal. Fluff in between my intense training, teaching days. Thanks for this giveaway
Currently reading French Kids Eat Everything by Karen LeBillon. ;-)
I actually scooped up a copy of the Flavor Bible after you recommended it a couple weeks ago and am loving that! Such a great resource! And a second copy would be a great gift :)
I’m actually reading quite a few books right now (in additional to my school reading…) – “Lessons in French: A Novel” by Hilary Reyl, “Life After God” by Douglas Coupland, and “The Happiness Project” by Gretchen Rubin. I just finished reading “Blackberry Winter” by Sarah Jio and “Room” by Emma Donaghue.
I recently reviewed Annelie’s Raw food Power which was so pretty. I have all those 3 books and I love them all, too. Thank you for an awesome giveaway. For an international winner, you may want to look into book depository.com. They have no shipping costs. :-)
Angela, I love your blog, it’s so inspiring. These days the only books that I’m reading are text books on program evaluation. Interesting but not much fun.
I’m now following you on Pinterest – can’t believe I wasn’t before!
Hey!
I’m “reading” 2 italian books, “500 ricette vegane” and “cucinare i cereali”. I’ve found there interesting and inspiring ideas :)
I faithfully follow you on Facebook! ;) Mahalo!
