I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??
Now for the giveaway fun! In my mind, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good cookbook and feeling more inspired with each turning page. Today’s giveaway highlights a couple awesome vegan cookbooks that I have in my collection as well as my favourite recipe creation tool that I reviewed recently – The Flavor Bible! I’m giving away all the books below to one lucky winner. If you happen to already own one or some of these cookbooks, I’ll be happy to send you an Amazon gift card instead. You decide. The books will be shipped new directly from Amazon.
In this giveaway:
Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton
Let Them Eat Vegan! is packed with 200 plant-powered recipes for the entire family. Dreena offers notes on how to modify her recipes for those with allergies or common substitution questions. Natural vegan ingredients are abundant in her recipes, many of which I already have in my own pantry. See my full review here.
Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero
Veganomicon is truly a work of art. With over 250 recipes for any occasion, this is a cookbook I turn to often. Whether you’re in the mood for something quick and easy or something fancy and elaborate, this book will have it. There are also handy user-friendly guides for soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, and quick and easy recipes.
The Flavor Bible by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg
The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

The Round House – I’m almost through, so far I like it a lot!
I’m finally picking back up On The Road by Jack Kerouac. Started it a while ago and forgot!
following you on FB
I’m back in school for my Masters, so I’ve been reading plenty of text books. One of my favorites is Cultivating Food Justice, a compilation of papers envisioning just and sustainable food systems — from urban food deserts to agricultural land use policies. Very interesting, you learn something new on every page!
i’m reading a book called “The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can’t Stand Positive Thinking” — it’s actually a REALLY interesting read.
I’m currently reading panchali’s pledge by subramania bharati,
and as for vegan cooking reads, I’m really loving the healing cuisine
by Joanne
Hi, I’m reading Forks Over Knives – The Cookbook: Over 300 Recipes for Plant-Based Eating All Through the Year. I was not eating chicken or beef and recently am not eating pork. Am eating a lot of vegetables and fruits. Am new to being vegan and would appreciate any help.
I only have a few cookbooks, and I don’t get new one’s often, but I get a lot of recipe ideas from blogs and websites like yours. I would love the new inspiration, but one of my all-time favorite cookbooks is the Vegan Lunchbox by Jennifer McCann. it’s mostly targeted for parents/kids, but all the recipes are delicious, inventive, and free of refined sugars/flours.
This giveaway couldn’t be more fitting for me right now! I am less than 2 months away from my wedding (6/22/13) and have been gearing up to look and feel my best for the big day. I recently purchased a couple of cookbooks, including The Flexitarian Table by Peter Berley (http://www.amazon.com/Flexitarian-Table-Inspired-Vegetarians-inBetween/dp/0618658653). It is a great book for transitioning from eating meat, to going vegan (and everything in between). I have been desperately looking for new meals to make for myself and my fiance, and so ALL of my reading has been related to the kitchen!
I just finished The Secret Race, by Tyler Hamilton. Very sad and fascinating story about the inside world of bike racing. Also, just checked out Appetite for Reduction from the library. Sooo excited about this!
I am reading How to Raise Your Spirited Child and it is wonderful!! I was feeling lost as to how to parent my little one with so much spirit & this is helping so much already & I’m not even half way through it!!
I also follow you on Facebook!
I am reading Energy Medicine by Donna Eden – an oldie but goodie.
I’m getting ready to read Garden Spells by Sarah Allen for my monthly book club. I hope it’s a good one!!
I am currently reading Finding Ultra by Rich Roll. Rich’s story to becoming a vegan and an ultra marathoner. Love your receipes.
Just followed you on twitter and instagram!
Hi Angela, although I have been following your blog for over a year now and it really has made being a vegan easier for me and a whole lot more fun. I have loved every single thing I have cooked (or baked) from your recepies and my non-vegan friends are crazy for my food. Anyways, this was not about me rambling about great food. A book I have read recently that I have really really loved was “a dog’s purpose” by Bruce Cameron. It was special for me as a dog owner but just on it’s own it’s a special little tale about life, loyality and love.
It took me forever, but I just finished The Fountain Head. Food wise, I love ethnic cuisine and find inspiration from Sundays at Moosewood Restaurant.
I am currently reading In Defense of Food by Michaell Pollan, it’s fantastic!
I am currently reading the Divergent series. It is SO good. I recommend it to all.
