I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??
Now for the giveaway fun! In my mind, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good cookbook and feeling more inspired with each turning page. Today’s giveaway highlights a couple awesome vegan cookbooks that I have in my collection as well as my favourite recipe creation tool that I reviewed recently – The Flavor Bible! I’m giving away all the books below to one lucky winner. If you happen to already own one or some of these cookbooks, I’ll be happy to send you an Amazon gift card instead. You decide. The books will be shipped new directly from Amazon.
In this giveaway:
Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton
Let Them Eat Vegan! is packed with 200 plant-powered recipes for the entire family. Dreena offers notes on how to modify her recipes for those with allergies or common substitution questions. Natural vegan ingredients are abundant in her recipes, many of which I already have in my own pantry. See my full review here.
Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero
Veganomicon is truly a work of art. With over 250 recipes for any occasion, this is a cookbook I turn to often. Whether you’re in the mood for something quick and easy or something fancy and elaborate, this book will have it. There are also handy user-friendly guides for soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, and quick and easy recipes.
The Flavor Bible by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg
The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

wild fermentation is my obsession at the moment… I’m fermenting everything! I’m almost putting my children in brine…
I’m just about finishing my undergrad, it’s hard to find time to read anything that isn’t school related!
The most recent cookbook I’ve read is a hand me down from my mom called “Recipes for a Small Planet: The Art & Science of High Protein Vegetarian Cookery”. It’s an older book, but there’s some really great recipes, especially the cashew carrot soup – yummy!
Looking forward to updating my cookbook selection when your book comes out!
Currently I’m reading Brendan Brazier’s book “Thrive” . part cookbook part learning adventure and I love it!!!! cookbooks are my FAVORITE kind of read!
oh and i already follpw you on facebook twitter aaand pinterest!
Currently reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed. :)
I just finished reading This Crazy Vegan Life. I’m trying to find new recipes that my husband and I will enjoy!
I am currently reading The Horse Boy, A Memoir of Healing by Rupert Isaacson. It’s about parents who take their young child to Mongolia to heal him from Autism. My son has Austim so I’m always interested in reading about other families lives (struggles and victories).
i’m currently reading “a storm of swords” by george r. r. martin, “religion for atheists” by alain de botton, and “in defense of food” by michael pollan. mainly reading the george r. r. martin one. unfortunately can’t read on the subway since i started riding my bike year-round. i already have veganomicon but the other two cookbooks sound fantastic. a cookbook i would recommend is “prashad”, which explores vegetarian indian cuisine. good luck with your cookbook. i really enjoy trying out the recipes on your website.
I am reading “What is the What”. It is a memoir of sorts about one of the “Lost Boys of Sudan”. What happened to the villages in Sudan and the atrocities that separated these boys from their families and eventually brought many of them to the US is heartbreaking, but I believe it is worth knowing about. This book is written in very much a story format and told from the perspective of one of the boys which makes it a very interesting read.
I followed you on Pinterest and Facebook!
I already follow you on twitter, and now facebook and instagram! I can’t believe I didn’t follow you on facebook before!
Wow great giveaway! I’m currently reading “Your Brain on Nature” by Eva M. Selhub/Alan C. Logan. It is really interesting and a great reminder to get outdoors! Our health depends on it! Fingers crossed :-)

Hi Angela, I am currently reading a book loaned to me by a friend at work called “The White Queen” by Philippa Gregory. It is historical fiction, very well written and I plan to spend the next few rainy weeknights reading it! I love your website and have made several of your recipes. Keep up the great work!!
I just started reading a book called Life After Life, which was recommended by a friend. Hopefully it’s good!
I also follow you on Facebook :)
Just read Edgar Sawtelle…great book and easy read. Love your blog!!!
I just got Artisan Vegan Cheese out of the library and already have my rejuvelac brewing! I am so excited to test out the recipes, all of them. I think I might need to buy it, or have dropped hints about mother’s day…
I’ve been reading Nicholas Sparks books recently and have loved each one. I started with Safe Haven and at the moment I’m reading The Last Song. I just love the way he writes and it doesn’t hurt that a lot of them are set in a beach town (I’m a huge lover of the beach). I would really like to read all three of these books. Thanks for the giveaway!
Hi! I recently read Beauty Detox Foods by Kimberly Snyder. It was a great read & I feel more knowledgeable about the healing effects of fruits and veggies.
