A Trio of Cookbooks Giveaway!

April 23, 2013

IMG_4354-3751

I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!

Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??

Now for the giveaway fun! In my mind, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good cookbook and feeling more inspired with each turning page. Today’s giveaway highlights a couple awesome vegan cookbooks that I have in my collection as well as my favourite recipe creation tool that I reviewed recently – The Flavor Bible! I’m giving away all the books below to one lucky winner. If you happen to already own one or some of these cookbooks, I’ll be happy to send you an Amazon gift card instead. You decide. The books will be shipped new directly from Amazon.

In this giveaway:

Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton

Let Them Eat Vegan! is packed with 200 plant-powered recipes for the entire family. Dreena offers notes on how to modify her recipes for those with allergies or common substitution questions. Natural vegan ingredients are abundant in her recipes, many of which I already have in my own pantry. See my full review here.

Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero

Veganomicon is truly a work of art. With over 250 recipes for any occasion, this is a cookbook I turn to often. Whether you’re in the mood for something quick and easy or something fancy and elaborate, this book will have it. There are also handy user-friendly guides for soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, and quick and easy recipes.

The Flavor Bible by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg

The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

If you’d like a second entry you can follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest and leave a second comment letting me know you did so. This contest is open to anyone, anywhere and the winner will be chosen at random on Sat April 27th . Good luck!!

I am currently reading Anne Rice’s The Vampire Lestat. I am a huge fantasy buff. She also really hits the nail on the head in terms of vampire philosophy…no sparkling vampires here! I highly recommend all her books and series. I also already follow you on Facebook…and getting those three books would be incredible. I love theppk.com and have Appetite for Reduction as well

I’m currently reading an advance copy of Rory Freedman’s new book “Beg”. She talks about the plight of cats/dogs,”pet” industry commodities, and promotes shelter adoptions. She then moves from that to discussing the plight of farmed animals, sort of connecting the dots for folks who may be drawn in by their empathy for those animals we call “pets” to get them to consider other animals and to go vegan. It’s pretty good so far. (I don’t have any of these cookbooks, by the way. I don’t have any at all by Isa, surprisingly. I’d love a crack at them!)

I am reading The Thrive Diet and I am LOVING it! The recipes are delicious and easy to make… specially the smoothies. I am also reading Betty Goes Vegan and it is another great read too. When I was exploring the vegan world, the first book I read was 21 Day Kickstart Weight Loss. That really helped me transition and I learn lots!

I’m currently reading How to Win Friends and Influence People and love it! Some very interesting and smart tips in there. As for cookbooks, I like to browse through the ones I own from time to time. My favorites are the 1st Peas and Thank you Cookbook as well as Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar.

I must say I am very much looking forward to your cookbook as I’ve loved pretty much every recipe I’ve made from your blog. Many of them are printed out and in a binder in my kitchen. It will be nice to finally have a real cookbook by you :)

I recently read Proof of Heaven by Eben Alexander for my Faith, Science, and Ethics class. The book is about a neurosurgeon who faced a near death experience from E.coli bacteria that landed him in a coma. He writes about his description of heaven he experiences while being in a coma.

You should pick me for these books! I am officially a college graduate this Sunday (April 28) and I will be spending my next year volunteering in Chicago, IL working with low-income children and encouraging exercise and nutrition education through after school programs :) These books would be a great asset to my future experience. PLUS I love your site. :)

Awesome giveaway! I recently finished reading Just Food by James E. McWilliams. It has really inspired me to adopt a plant-based diet for the sake of food security worldwide…and thus I am now reading an array of vegan cookbooks. :-) I am really liking Vegan Slow Cooker by Kathy Hester.

I look forward to YOUR cookbook, Angela!!

I currently have two books on the go. One is “The Best Things You Can Eat for Everything From Aches to Zzzz” by David Grotto. It is a really well-organized and fascinating book ranking the best sources of each type of nutrient that your body needs, and interesting food-related facts. I’m getting through it very slowly, but trying to incorporate some new habits and foods into my regular regime. I’m also reading “Rebel Heart” by Moira Young, the sequel to “Dust Road”. It’s actually a Young Adult book (that an adult can appreciate), which features a strong and determined heroine. Gripping read. Shortly going to be starting a book by Brendan Brazier! Getting back into running, and you can never have enough plant-based recovery foods!

Oh my GOODNESS. How I would love to win this collection!! I’ve been in such a recipe “rut” these past few weeks… which means I havn’t really been making anything new, or anything that actually excites me, but rather just turning to the easiest “usuals.” Blegh. So I’m thinking I really need a new cookbook to get my passion and creative juices going again.

Right now I am reading, “Intuitive Eating,”… something definitely making its way around the blog world. I’m only 100 pages in and am already finding it is helping hugely with many of the struggles I have with food. It is written in such a clear, positive manner, but includes so much scientific back up which is something I really need and enjoy. All in all, I am loving it and am really thinking this may be a huge factor to help with in my recovery to healthy eating.

Thanks for the opportunity!
