I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??
Now for the giveaway fun! In my mind, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good cookbook and feeling more inspired with each turning page. Today’s giveaway highlights a couple awesome vegan cookbooks that I have in my collection as well as my favourite recipe creation tool that I reviewed recently – The Flavor Bible! I’m giving away all the books below to one lucky winner. If you happen to already own one or some of these cookbooks, I’ll be happy to send you an Amazon gift card instead. You decide. The books will be shipped new directly from Amazon.
In this giveaway:
Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton
Let Them Eat Vegan! is packed with 200 plant-powered recipes for the entire family. Dreena offers notes on how to modify her recipes for those with allergies or common substitution questions. Natural vegan ingredients are abundant in her recipes, many of which I already have in my own pantry. See my full review here.
Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero
Veganomicon is truly a work of art. With over 250 recipes for any occasion, this is a cookbook I turn to often. Whether you’re in the mood for something quick and easy or something fancy and elaborate, this book will have it. There are also handy user-friendly guides for soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, and quick and easy recipes.
The Flavor Bible by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg
The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

Right now, I’m reading When You are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris. It is so great! :)
Can’t wait to see your book come out! My non-veg family loves your recipes, and I’m always looking to send them vegan brainwaves, so I’m definitely thinking Christmas or birthday presents for the future :)
I just finished reading 2 classic George Orwell books, Animal Farm and 1984. Really amazing books.
I’m in the final weeks of my first year of grad school, so I’m reading LOTS of books right now. A neat one I just finished was British author China Mieville’s young adult novel “Railsea.” A Moby Dick parody that takes place on a railway system. Really interesting stuff! It should definitely be made into a movie, I think. :)
And I like you on Facebook! :)
And now, I am following you on Pinterest!
Not a cookbook, but I’m reading Murakami’s 1Q84. I’ve been really wanting to check out The Flavor Bible. Thanks for the giveaway!
What a wonderful give-away! And I can only imagine how tiresome it would be to make things for photographing them. I guess the upside is having lots of good things around to eat. I have a couple of teenage boys I could send your way to help eat any leftovers! ;D
I am reading The Gift of Pets by Bruce Coston, DVM, a former classmate of mine.
I just finished readinig. the Art of Hearing Heartbeats. It was a beautiful story that takes place in Burma.
Im reading the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. It’s helping me deal with the everyday stresses of working as a nurse. I am actually starting to feel more calm. :)
I’m reading Mad Hungry: Feeding Men and Boys!
I follow you on FB. Thanks!
Hi Angela,
I love your blog and can’t wait to try some of your recipes!
I am presently reading “There is a cure for diabetes” by Gabriel Cousens. I am not a diabetic, but I do have a weak immune system which I am trying to strengthen with foods. The book has very useful information and recipes for anyone with diabetes or other health problems. Also I am trying to move away from a standard diet to vegan lifestyle. Please enter me in your trio book giveaway….I would really love to be able to add those three wonderful books to my kitchen library.
Many thanks!
Celine
PS, I found your Facebook page and will also write a comment for a double entry. Thanks again!
I’m really not reading anything right now – my 3 year old’s energy does not allow it! I would love to win these books. My husband is trying really hard to go vegan – I would love to have ideas to share with him on how to do it properly instead of the way he is going about it.
Thank you,
Melissa
I’m reading Cold Tangerines right now :) and eating them too ;)
And I follow you on FB…holla!
I just finished reading Omnivore’s Dilemma (finally!) and am SO glad I did! What a wonderful expose.
I’m just about finished with “Little Men” by Louisa May Alcott. Next up will be “Anne of Green Gables”… I’m in a classic book kind of mood apparently!
I am reading so many books right now, it’s hard to juggle them all. It’s like have tons of stuffed animals as a kid and wanted to spend equal time loving them all. I just finished “The Book Thief” by Mark Zusak, and now I’m into “On Becoming Fearless…in Love, Work, and Life” by Ariana Huffington. This book is OUTSTANDING and every woman in the world should read it. It’s about unleashing our power, living up to our potential, and not letting anything (society, men, our own insecurities) get in our way. More info here: http://www.daughters.com/article/?id=174 My friend was given this book and loved it so much that she went on Amazon.com and bought 10 copies and gave them to her friends to pay-it-forward. May this book change your life the way it has mine.
I’m reading A Wild Sheep Chase with my book club. So far it’s an interesting read!
I am currently reading Glass Castle. Great book so far and have heard it’s amazing!
I just finished reading Cutting for Stone, and oh my goodness, LOVED LOVED LOVED it! As for cookbooks, a friend just gifted me with Practically Raw, which I’m pouring over. Super excited to start adding in some more raw meals in my diet (break away from the same old salad routine :)) Highly anticipating your cookbook! Congratulations!
