I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??
Now for the giveaway fun! In my mind, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good cookbook and feeling more inspired with each turning page. Today’s giveaway highlights a couple awesome vegan cookbooks that I have in my collection as well as my favourite recipe creation tool that I reviewed recently – The Flavor Bible! I’m giving away all the books below to one lucky winner. If you happen to already own one or some of these cookbooks, I’ll be happy to send you an Amazon gift card instead. You decide. The books will be shipped new directly from Amazon.
In this giveaway:
Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton
Let Them Eat Vegan! is packed with 200 plant-powered recipes for the entire family. Dreena offers notes on how to modify her recipes for those with allergies or common substitution questions. Natural vegan ingredients are abundant in her recipes, many of which I already have in my own pantry. See my full review here.
Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero
Veganomicon is truly a work of art. With over 250 recipes for any occasion, this is a cookbook I turn to often. Whether you’re in the mood for something quick and easy or something fancy and elaborate, this book will have it. There are also handy user-friendly guides for soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, and quick and easy recipes.
The Flavor Bible by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg
The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

I love your blog! I am currently reading “Fear the Hunted” by Jinn Nelson along with all of my nursing textbooks! HA!
Secondly, I do “like” your FB page
Cookbook wise, I’m working through The Gluten-Free Vegetarian cookbook. And for pleasure reading, I’m working my way through Devil In The White City. I feel like I’ve been reading it forever since I started it while I was still in grad school last year. Then because it has been so long, I have to go back and re-read sections. Oy! But I’ll get through it!!! I love your blog and can’t wait for your cookbook to come out. Best wishes!
I’m reading Silent Spring by Rachel Carson. It was written 30 years ago about the dangers of pesticides and man’s desire to control nature.
I’m currently reading Alif the Unseen, a book about a young man, the internet, and a search for connectedness. As of yet it has a little bit of everything, romance, suspense, and character development. — I’m so excited to read that you have a new cookbook up and coming! I can’t wait to get it and try every recipe.
Enjoying The Green Kitchen: Delicious and Healthy Vegetarian Recipes for Every Day – the production values are divine, too!
I’m reading two books right now. First is Happy Herbivore Abroad. The other one is The Complete Idiots Guide to Plant Based Nutrition. I don’t have any of the books in the giveaway. I’d love to own them!
I’m currently reading japanese farm food & love the beautiful presentation and simplicity of the recipes!
I just re-read ‘The Kind diet’, it is just so inspirational. :)
After finishing up this year of university, I’m currently in between books. Next on my list is Nourishing Wisdom by Marc David and/or Healing with Whole Foods by Paul Pitchford! I would love to add these three to the list!
Right now I am eating Drop Dead Healthy! It’s a fun read :) I am excited for your cookbook!
What wonderful news that your cookbook is nearing completion and congratulations on your Favourite Vegan Bog win! I am reading Party Vegan by Robin Robertson and The Vegan Slow cooker by Kathy Hester and Alone in the Classroom by Eliabeth Hay.
I am a big fan of urban fantasy books and am currently reading Blood on the Bayou by Stacey Jay.
I’m reading three books right now. The Bible, specifically the books of Ephesians and galatians. Teaching with love and logic by Jim Fay. Great read for new and young teachers. I’m also reading Under Cover by John Bevere. This book makes it clear that to remain under Gods divine and loving authority is protection from unnecessary troubles and circumstances in our lives. Amazing!
I just finished Mindy Kaling’s “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?” and it was hilarious! I recommend it to anyone looking for a nice break between heavier books.
SO looking forward to the cookbook!!
I’m just starting the 5th book in the outlander series. I love love these books!
I’m following on Facebook too!
I am reading The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. I’m surprised at how dead on a lot of it is about how we give and receive love. It has opened up new lines of affection and communication between my partner and I. I also understand how my child gives and receives love as well..simple yet brilliant! I am now also a follower on Instagram besides my normal email subscription to your blog. Thanks for the wonderful posts and recipes. I’m transitining or trying to transition to no meat and you help quite a bit…these cookbooks would be a godsend!
Gluten Free Vegan Eats. I highly recommend it! Easy to follow and delicious recipes. I would love to win these!!
I am currently reading 365 Curries. I love Indian cooking. :) I would love to get my hands on a few more cookbooks.
