I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in the final days of finishing my cookbook manuscript and handing it in to my editor. After 15 months of testing recipes, writing, and shooting photography, I finally feel like things are coming together. Very, very slowly, mind you. I’ve shot about 50 recipe photographs so far, but that means I still have at least 50 recipes to remake and photograph. gulp, gulp, gulp. I’ve heard the editing process is pretty brutal, so I’m just taking it one day at a time and not looking too far ahead. The journey of getting my recipes to a place where I’m happy (and all my recipe testers) has taken much longer than I anticipated, but I didn’t want to rush the process. Quality over quantity, I say. If this is the only cookbook I ever write, I want it to be something I’m proud of. And seriously, it might be the only cookbook I ever write!
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello! I might not be able to post as much as I’d like to over the next couple weeks, but just know that I’m thinking of you always and looking forward to sharing some recipe inspiration as soon as I can. Right now, every creative cell in my body seems to be on hiatus, but it will recharge soon enough. Isn’t that what red wine is for??
Now for the giveaway fun! In my mind, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good cookbook and feeling more inspired with each turning page. Today’s giveaway highlights a couple awesome vegan cookbooks that I have in my collection as well as my favourite recipe creation tool that I reviewed recently – The Flavor Bible! I’m giving away all the books below to one lucky winner. If you happen to already own one or some of these cookbooks, I’ll be happy to send you an Amazon gift card instead. You decide. The books will be shipped new directly from Amazon.
In this giveaway:
Let Them Eat Vegan by Dreena Burton
Let Them Eat Vegan! is packed with 200 plant-powered recipes for the entire family. Dreena offers notes on how to modify her recipes for those with allergies or common substitution questions. Natural vegan ingredients are abundant in her recipes, many of which I already have in my own pantry. See my full review here.
Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero
Veganomicon is truly a work of art. With over 250 recipes for any occasion, this is a cookbook I turn to often. Whether you’re in the mood for something quick and easy or something fancy and elaborate, this book will have it. There are also handy user-friendly guides for soy-free, gluten-free, low-fat, and quick and easy recipes.
The Flavor Bible by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg
The Flavor Bible, described as “the essential guide to culinary creativity”, profiles ingredients and the corresponding herbs, spices, seasonings, etc. that pair well with each of these ingredients. As someone who has grown to love recipe creation, this book is a resource tool that I turn to when I’m looking for a nudge in the right direction. When I have an ingredient in mind that I’d like to cook with, I often look to this book for suggestions of other “compatible” ingredients that I can include in the dish. For my full review, see here.

I just finished re-reading Pride and Prejudice — my favorite book of all time!
I follow you on twitter and pinterest!
…and I follow you on facebook and pinterest — I love your blog!
Wow what a lot of readers!
I am reading lots of kiddies books! I have a 5mth old. ‘The Tawny Scrawny Lion’ is particulary good- about a meat eating lion who is converted to carrot stew…
I just got The Paris Wife from the library and I’m excited to start it. As for cookbooks, I’m new to a gluten-free and more plant-based diet so I’ve mostly been reading blogs like yours. After reading your review I immediately put The Flavor Bible on my Amazon wish list. I would love to win!
I have to agree with your love of The Flavor Bible. I keep it very handy in the kitchen and I use it for inspiration and for confirmation when I get some crazy flavour combination in my head. I am particularly excited about your upcoming book though! Your new book will likely become required reading aboard The Veggie Train for all of my passengers. I have loved every single recipe of yours that I have tried. I believe that your collection is the most reliable source of recipes I have ever found and I’ve been sure to say so every time I’ve mentioned you on facebook. Best of luck finalizing all of the details with your book!
I’m currently reading Enders Game. I would love to add these cookbooks to my collection!
And, also, I already follow you on Pinterest. :)
The only book I’m reading right now is my Bible
i follow you on twitter @orangehamster13 :)
I am SO excited to get my hands on your cookbook! Congratulations on coming into the final stretch. I am currently reading, and cooking LOTS from, “Betty Goes Vegan” by the Shannons. It’s great, although there are a lot of fake meat recipes that I’m adapting to include only beans.
OH! And I “liked” you on Facebook, which should really have been done a long time ago. :)
Right now I am reading Beauty Detox Foods by Kimberly Snyder. It is really good if you have certain beauty issues that you would like to target such as smoother skin, less cellulite, etc, and then they reference recipes that incorporate that foods that help with these issues.
My most current read was Safe Haven. I am a dietitian so I am constantly reading health and nutrition updates. I am interested in everything vegan for myself. Loves many of your recipes that I have tried! Thx
I currently reading the Fodor’s guide to Alaska. Looking forward to a cruise this summer. I already own Veganomicon, but actually I was thinking of checking your book out from the library again this summer. I had it last summer when I started the 30-day vegan challenge and need a refresher!
I’m currently reading “May Cause Miracles” By Gabrielle Bernstein and it’s fantastic! I would love to expand my growing Vegan/Vegetarian cookbook collection. I may not be vegetarian or vegan but I certainly prefer a more veggie filled meal over a meat one. I only eat meat maybe a couple of times a week and even that changes, I crave vegetarian/vegan meals above all.
I’m currently following you on all of those social media’s! Can’t wait for your cookbook, you’re my favorite food blogger, you’re so inspiring! Thank you!
“Power Foods for the Brain” by Neal Barnard and “unleash the Power of the female brain” by Daniel G Amen’ just got them both at the public library. I was at the weekly healthy eating class tonight at Whole Foods” and they were handing out copies of “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho apparently April 23rd is World Book and Copyright Day.
I follow you on fb
I’m looking forward to the release of your cook book!
Right now I’m reading Rich Roll’s “Finding Ultra” on his transition to vegan-ism and ultra marathon running. Very inspiring.
The last great book I read was Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. It is an amazing book and is a true story which makes it even better!
