A Rainbow of Nutrients + Golden Globes Fashion Recap

January 14, 2009

Hey guys!

I am a bit down in the dumps tonight. :( Had sort of disappointing news at the Sports Medicine Doctor’s office today. She told me what I already suspected:

It’s not a groin strain.

I had a feeling. You know when you just know your body? I knew it wasn’t my groin. It feels more related to the bone. The pain is very precise on a certain point. I am so glad I trusted my gut and got a second opinion. I find in the ER, the doctors are so rushed and don’t bother to give you a proper assessment. A second opinion, especially with someone specialized in the field, is always good.

Anyways my doctor today knew right away that it wasn’t a groin strain. She said she doesn’t know if it is a fracture- it either could be just a weird injury without fracture to the pelvic area, or it could be a fracture. She doesn’t suspect it is a full out fracture because she thinks I would be less mobile than I am now. That was slightly reassuring, but I still am worried. :(

I went to a walk-in clinic and got an X-ray. The technician wouldn’t tell me anything because she wasn’t the one that looks at them. Strange. Anyways, I should know about that X-ray tomorrow I hope. Then I am going to get a bone scan at the hospital in 2 weeks. My doctor says it won’t be necessary if I am feeling better by then (which she is hopeful for), but I will likely go anyways just because it is good to know.

So my emotions have kind of been all over the map today. I get frustrated with the pain and tear up every now and then. I am trying to stay hopeful, but I will be honest, I am feeling a bit depressed.

We picked up some used crutches for $15 bucks….Eric was trying them out :)

I also bought myself a new shirt to try and cheer myself up. It was on sale for 11 bucks. Not bad :)

Dinner tonight was a rainbow of nutrients:

It tasted awesome. I will be sharing my recipe with you tomorrow night! Key word: Salmon!

Now as promised a recap of the fashion at the 2009 Golden Globes…

Vanessa Hudgens looked awesome in this nude gown. Her hair gave the overall look a more relaxed and young feel. Thumbs up!

Marissa Tomei…what can I say? Pirates of the Caribbean called and they want their dress back! Thumbs down.

America Ferrera…I don’t care who sketched this dress, it ain’t the best. The length cuts off her legs. It’s not horrible, but it could be much more flattering. I’ve seen her in much better. Thumbs down.

Oh Salma Heyek….the Belle of the Ball showing the younger ladies how to work it. I could not take my eyes off of her when she was on the screen. That’s how I knew she really rocked it. Now that is a flattering dress- accentuates the chest, narrows the waist, flows over the hips. Thumbs up.

Angelina Jolie…why, why, why? This dress does nothing for you. It is shapeless and ages you by about 15 years. I would love to see her in a bright and form fitting dress. Now that would look amazing. Thumbs down.

Remember this? Amazing.

Eva Longoria…I am convinced from the knees up, but I just don’t like the mermaid style gown. I love, love, love the top half though. I heard she was voted best dressed by E Online, but I just don’t agree. I think Salma  or Olivia won hands down.

eva-longoria-golden-globes-2009-01

Demi Moore…The dress is ok, but not my favourite on her. The shape could be a bit more flattering, and I am not crazy about the choker style top. Not dazzling, but not bad either. So-so.

demi-moore-golden-globes-2009-13

Olivia Wilde…the perfect picture of pretty. I love this dress almost entirely. I am not crazy about the bottom of it, but I think overall she looks beautiful and graceful. A nice contrast from some of the more absurd and dark gowns. Thumbs up!

olivia-wilde-golden-globes-2009-07

Renee Zellweger…I actually didn’t mind the dress until I saw the Spanks/bra top underneath! I love Renee’s hair and makeup here. That she nailed. The dress just isn’t working. I was in the kitchen when she came on the red carpet and Eric yelled, “Oh my god, come look!!!!” lol.

I’m sorry as well.
You’ve pointed out something SO important to us who are training for a half marathon as well… listen to our bodies.
The timing of your injury is odd because I was JUST debating taking a day or two off because my previously broken knee is now feeling sore and worn. I keep pushing it, and seeing what you’re going through, I’m realizing it’s not worth hurting it further. I run for an hour and it takes 3 days for it to stop feeling sore. This is the usual pattern. I can understand your frustration. I’m not a restful person either.

Chin up babe. HUGE hugs.

Olivia was my favorite again and Selma looked so good!

It sucks when you don’t exactly know what is wrong with you, I hate waiting too. You’ll be releaved when they’ve figured it all out.

Stay positive and read a good book maybe!

For you to remember….:

These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.”*~ – Elizabeth Kubler Ross

I’m so sorry to hear the news, Angela! I was really hoping you would get good news from the doctor today :-( I hope you feel better soon.

I am slowly healing from my pelvic stress fracture, too. How strange that we both seem to have the same injury. If you need any support or just someone to talk to just let me know.

Take care…

Geeeze – what a bummer! I am so sorry that the dr.’s news wasn’t the best. Try not to assume the worst, you never know what your body can do! :)

I just watched the honest foods taste-test and giveaway reminder. I LOVE the music in the background. As a former piano player, I used to download piano music to listen to while studying in graduate school. Do you have a favorite CD/artist?

OK, take care of yourself. I will enter the contest as soon as I get my blog up and running. Yup, I am starting my own! I will email you with more details. goodnight!

Oh No! I am so sorry to hear about this! i just hope that the X-ray reads something minor. Great contest and golden globe recap! Praying for your speedy recovery!

Awww, I’m so sry that it is worse than originaly thought. If it is a stress fx in the pelvic region, they usually heal in less than 2 weeks. Blunt trauma fracture much longer.. Ligmant, tendon, stress fx all are better in 2 weeks so that’s good. But slow moving afterwards to prevent reinjury. X-rays are very hard to see stress fx’s in the pelvis – usually CT, MRI or bone scan is the most diagnostic but they are very expensive! Obviously in 2 weeks if you still have pain then they are warranted or if pain gets worse before then.
What’s the fix to this? – time, you can’t “cast” it due to the injured area and you still need to walk.
Hope you get feeling better, and don’t be a knucklehead and try to over exert yourself – ie; run..

I’m sorry to hear that things are not getting better, Angela. I believe that things will be clearer once you know what’s wrong with your body.

In the meantime, stay strong and pray. :)

Sorry to hear about the news from the doctor. Hopefully it isn’t a fracture and you’ll be all healed in no time.

By the way, an x-ray technician is (usually) not a licensed radiologist, which is why the x-ray tech couldn’t read your films for you.

I totally agree with your thumbs downs, although I would add Drew Barrymore. America looks amazing. My very fav was Eva Mendes, and runners up were Frieda Pinto-great debut, Tina Fey, Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway, and dress I was most surprised to like but worked, Maggie Gylenthal sp?

I feel really awful for you, my prayers are with you for a speedy recover!

Ange,

So sorry to hear that it’s not just a strain…don’t worry though, I’m sure it’s not that bad and that you’ll be back on track in no time…I’m thinking of you and crossing my fingers for ya.

On a lighter note, we went to Costco tonight and I saw your almond butter and dove for it. :-P I’m going to give it a try. :-)

You will get better soon!! I know its easier said than done but try to get lots of rest and stay off your feet. Can you work from home again today? I agree with your Sis… do some new things… like scrapbooking and reading (non-fitness novels!!) :)

i’m so sorry about your injury as well :( i definitely know how you feel having been through similar — and i wanted to add that depending on the results of your testing, you might also need an MRI.

i had pain that sounds very similar to yours as well, and it turned out to be not IN the bone exactly, but a labral tear (the labrum is a piece of cartilage that lines the hip joint socket). the good news is that i am now running again with no pain (yay!) but the bad is that it took a few months of waiting.

depending on how things go, maybe swimming would be a cross-training option for you? i really do feel for you — it’s the WORST being stressed about an injury when your primary stress relief is running!!

okay my thoughts!:

salma is gorgeous.

i like angelie’s dress…she looks elegant and graceful. i agree w./ you, eva doesnt look that amazing! that dress is too bright!!!!

demi moore looks STUNNING.

olivia wilde looks a little thin!! yikesssss. but the dress is okay. just a little too barbie like for me.

thanks for posting this! I feel like a professional judge ;-)

Just started reading your blog! I am really enjoying how diverse it is!

I am so sorry to hear about your pain. I know how frustrating that can be. When I was training for my first half marathon I had the worst hip pain..not as bad as your situation but I couldn’t run and I was soo incredibly frsturated especially since I had put in so much hard work. But I listened to my body and did everything I could to help it and I ended up fine to run the half pain free!! I will be sending positive thoughts your way for the same outcome :)
