28 Weeks (pregnancy #2)

by Angela (Oh She Glows) on July 8, 2016

Hello, 3rd trimester. This pregnancy is flying!

Here I am in the photos above trying to decide on a dress to wear to an upcoming wedding! I like the fit of this one, but not sure about the print, so it might go back if I find something else. (Can I also resolve that today is the day I finally clear the laundry off the white dresser? Please tell me I’m not alone in letting my toddler’s clothing sit in a heap.)

How I’m feeling: Busy, excited, anxious, swollen, hopeful, emotional, tired, happy, grateful.

Home life: Eric cleared out the basement this week, and renovations are underway! My office is also coming together slowly but surely. I still need to figure out the rug situation, and a few other decor things, but it’s been a fun project to chip away at!

Nursery: Eric came up with a new idea about the kids’ bedrooms. He suggested that we move Adriana into her own “big girl” room (the current guest room, which we were originally planning on turning into the new baby’s nursery). I’m thinking about doing a safari theme for her big girl room because she’s obsessed with animals. Animals and books! And babies and trucks, hah. She would love it so much. He suggested we could simply revamp Adriana’s current nursery for the new baby. It’s a fun idea, for sure. I’m just uncertain when we’d be able to tackle it with everything on our plate. I guess we could always start small, and work on the rooms into the fall season once the renovation stuff dies down.

Nesting: Nesting was full force this week…in my email inbox, that is! Yes, friends, I’ve started getting the urge to declutter my inbox. Things are getting weird. I have two inboxes—one personal and one OSG— and my personal inbox is now under control. The OSG inbox is still in progress. There’s no stopping me now, though.

Belly button: Still an innie, but probably not for too much longer!

Hair/skin/nails: My skin is still breaking out…and I’m so over it. It’s improved a bit since last week, but definitely isn’t looking great, that’s for sure. Concealer is my friend! I’m still in desperate need of a haircut, and I think I shall book something today!

Sleep: I’ve been sleeping longer overnight stretches this week, which feels awesome. I mentioned last week that we darkened Adriana’s room a bit for the summer, and it helped her sleep an hour longer in the morning (from 5:30am until 6:30am). This week she’s now getting up at 6am, so I think the effect is wearing off a little, lol. Actually, this morning she decided to get up for the day at 4:45am!! What the heck. She’s a chip off the old block, I suppose. Adriana’s mama gave up napping entirely at the ripe old age of 14 months—yes, I really did! My poor mom. She says, “You have always had boundless energy.” Maybe baby #2 will take after Eric (the best sleeper in all the lands).

Wearing: I’m still feeling pretty uninspired with my maternity clothing, and just kind of feel “blah” with whatever I’m wearing these days. It must be the 3rd trimester transition!

Symptoms: I’m feeling quite good, aside from being more tired/slower than I was in the second trimester. My back hurts quite a bit in the morning and later at night. My ligaments tend to feel like they could be pulled at any moment. Still, I’m grateful that I don’t have any severe pains like I did with the first pregnancy (crazy rib and sciatica pain).

Exercise: As I mentioned last week, I’ve cut down my daily workouts to about 30 minutes, alternating between Barre3-and-cardio vs. all-cardio days, plus an early morning walk with Adriana. This feels like a good amount right now! I also seem to need more breaks during Barre3 lately. I will usually pause the video after each 2–3 minute “set” to get water and rest my legs. The breaks are so key! I’m also still rocking the 5-pound hand weights during the workout, which makes it so challenging. I can’t quite believe that I’ve kept up the strength training for this long…it might be a new record.

Reading: Still reading The Awakened Family: A Revolution in Parenting by Shefali Tsabary!

Cravings: My cravings seem to have died down a bit lately. My appetite in general is huge though! I feel like I don’t stop eating all day long. I find that I need a lot of food in the morning hours especially…two breakfasts plus a snack is the norm! I recently got back on the protein smoothie train. My current fave green blend is a simple combo of almond milk, frozen banana, Sunwarrior Warrior Blend Protein Powder, frozen wheatgrass juice, matcha green tea powder, and cinnamon. Yum!

Best thing I ate/drank all week: These incredible Dreamy Dark Chocolate Fudgesicles that I created for my pre-order bonus recipe bundle (details coming soon!). You don’t even want to know how many fudgsicles we ate this week! It was glorious.

I love that dress, you look great! I also think that would look good on me too, is it available in the US? I need a dress for my shower :) hope your renovations go smoothly! We are in the midst of doing a pallet wall for our baby boy’s camping/woodsy theme, fun but lots of work!

Angela Liddon July 8, 2016 at 11:39 am

Thanks Anne, It’s from ASOS (maternity), but it was purchased in the spring so not sure if they still carry it or not!

The theme and pallet wall sounds amazing…I drool over those whenever I see them on Pinterest!

Anne July 10, 2016 at 6:13 pm

Thanks, I found it! :)

Lauren July 8, 2016 at 10:29 am

You look great!

Lauren July 8, 2016 at 12:17 pm

You look great! Yeah…laundry is everywhere here. The top of the dresser is not the floor :p

Angela (Oh She Glows) July 8, 2016 at 12:45 pm

I like the way you think! ;)

Andrea July 8, 2016 at 5:20 pm

You are stunning! Pregnancy looks so good on you. Cutest bump in all the land. As for the laundry … I can’t keep up with how fast my 5 month old grows, so there’s always too-small clothes lying around all over her nursery that I “keep meaning to put away…” heh.

Ting July 8, 2016 at 11:37 pm

You look absolutely beautiful! That dress is amazing on you. I’m so happy for you and your expanding family. I have a sweet baby girl (17 months) and am hoping to have a little play mate for her soon :) Thank you for sharing so much of your life and for inspiring us to live the healthiest, happiest lives we can.

Angela Liddon July 18, 2016 at 2:28 pm

Thanks Ting, and good luck with your family planning goals!

I really like that dress on you. It’s very Ted Baker/English garden party!

Angela Liddon July 18, 2016 at 2:27 pm

Hah thanks!! ;)

PinaColada July 9, 2016 at 8:32 pm

I love your shoes! Where did you find them?

Angela Liddon July 18, 2016 at 2:27 pm

Thank you! I got the shoes 2 to 3 years ago, so I’m not 100% sure where they are from, but I want to say Town Shoes or DSW?!

katy July 10, 2016 at 4:22 pm

I think that dress is super cute and fits you well! I’m 16w with our first and currently hunting for a dress to wear to a wedding in Sept. I’ll have to look at ASOS’s maternity stuff!

Cetaphil has been a GODSEND for my skin. I was breaking out horribly (face, arms, back, shoulders, everywhere!) since about week 6, and it’s finally calmed down in the last week or so since I switched to Cetaphil – I was using a charcoal cleansing bar before. Might be worth a try!

Angela Liddon July 18, 2016 at 2:26 pm

Thanks Katy! I’ve heard great things about Cetaphil too.

Brittany July 11, 2016 at 5:54 pm

Hi Angela!
This is my first time commenting but I want to let you know I adore your blog! I’ve been reading for years, I have your cookbook, your app, and I check in here almost daily. I basically live off your recipes haha. Please keep them coming!

I was also wondering about what prenatals you are taking. I read you were taking Mega Food Baby & Me Herb Free back when you posted your supplements in your first pregnancy and I also used to take them. But I just went to order more from Amazon and it looks like they no longer have them! A few other websites also said they were discontinued. Maybe you can find them in Canada (I’m in the US) but could you tell me if you are taking something else now? Is the original Baby & Me ok to take? Or the Baby & Me 2? I’ve read some negative things about a few ingredients like red raspberry leaf and ginger so I’m not sure. Any advice?

Angela Liddon July 18, 2016 at 2:30 pm

Hey Brittany, Thank you for your sweet note! That’s so aweosme you’ve been reading so long, and enjoy my recipes so much.

Oh that’s a shame they were discontinued!! Does iHerb carry them? I buy them from Whole Foods (they go on sale periodically and I stock up). I’m still using the Mega Food Baby & Me Herb Free! To be honest, I’m not sure what the consensus is on the herbs in the herb-fortified kind. I would speak with your OB/midwife and see what their opinion is on it. I just erred on the safe side and decided it was easier just to get the one without the extra herbs!

Brittany July 21, 2016 at 1:40 pm

Looks like iHerb is out too. They have Baby & Me 2 instead but they are currently out of stock and $54 compared to $30 on Amazon. I went ahead and bought the Baby & Me 2’s from Amazon and the supplements/ingredients aren’t as great as the Herb Free version, in my opinion. But they do not contain any herbs. Maybe stock up next time you see them because it seems they are disappearing, at least in the US! Which is a shame because they were great vitamins. If you come across any other great brands, please let me know!

Are you still following the same vitamin regimen as your first pregnancy?

Angela Liddon July 26, 2016 at 11:12 am

That’s a bummer the vitamins seem to be disappearing. I wonder why!? I love them. I just found out my iron has only dropped from 142 to 135 over the past 5-6 months, and I haven’t taken any iron pills to speak of. So I credit this in part to the Baby & me vits! I’m not taking quite as many vitamins as the first pregnancy, mainly out of laziness, and the fact that my blood work has come back really good. I’m taking multi, DHA, B12, vitamin D (not as much over the summer though since I get outside a lot).

Jess July 11, 2016 at 9:19 pm

Yay, welcome to the 3rd trimester! Hope you’re keeping cool through this crazy humidity – it’s been pretty intense up in Northern Ontario… It’s no wonder that cankle season has arrived for me! Lol.

Angela Liddon July 18, 2016 at 2:29 pm

I hear you on the humidity! So sticky!

Cathy Rios July 14, 2016 at 3:57 pm

can’t wait for the bundle! I preordered 2 weeks ago :)

Sherry August 9, 2016 at 1:54 am

Hi Angela, congratulations on baby number 2 and thanks for all your great recipes during pregnancy. Quick few questions about protein powders, as I’m wading through my myriad of options! Which Sun Warrior protein do you use, and are you satisfied with their answers about heavy metal content? Do you think that the level of xylitol as a sweetener in Sun Warrior Protein is moderate enough for daily use during pregnancy? Thanks and looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Angela Liddon August 12, 2016 at 4:07 pm

Hi Sherry, Thanks so much for the kind words! I use the Sun Warrior Warrior Blend (in natural). It doesn’t contain any xylitol or other artificial sweeteners (they don’t agree with me at all). As for heavy metals, I believe the Warrior blend contains less than rice protein powders (however I could be mistaken). Hope this helps!
