Triple Lentil Recovery Soup & Booty Camp Fitness Giveaway!

by Angela (Oh She Glows) on January 9, 2012

The lovely ladies from Booty Camp Fitness recently sent me their new Ultimate Home Edition 11-disc workout plan to try out. I am a big fan of their first workout DVDs, so I was really excited to try their newest series. Sammie Kennedy- the Creator of Booty Camp Fitness- and the other amazing boot-camp instructors have a very friendly and laid-back style, making even the biggest exercise newbie feel confident. When you think of a “boot camp” workout, you often think of instructors screaming at you and lots of intensity. This isn’t Booty Camp’s style at all. It’s all about having fun, empowering women, and making it seem like you are working out with a few of your girlfriends (who just happen to know some killer workout exercises).

The 11-disc series contain the following workouts:

The DVDs come with a workout calendar, jump rope, measuring tape, lifestyle guide, and e-cookbook as well. I’ve been testing out the workouts since the end of December and I’m starting the 2-month plan this week.

The workout that I love to hate? 20-minute Bounce ‘n Burn (jump rope)

Burn isn’t even the word! My legs feel like bricks when I do this workout. The last time I jumped rope was probably in grade school so it wasn’t pretty the first time I did it. After a couple painful sessions, I’ve relearned how to jump rope without whipping myself like silly (tip: wear long pants!). It will probably take me at least a few more sessions until I’m not gasping for’s an intense 20 minutes, even with alternating jumping rope with strength exercises.

So far the videos are going well and I’m loving the variety of the 11 workouts. My muscles hate me though, so I’ve been making sure to stretch a lot, take my rest days when needed, and get lots of protein following tough workouts.

Like with this Triple lentil Recovery Soup!

Triple Lentil Recovery Soup

Vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, soy-free

Packed with over 25 grams of protein per serving, this soup will aid with post-workout recovery and get you back in the game in no time.

4 servings
Prep time
Cook time

  • 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 sweet onion, chopped (~2 cups)
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 heaping cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 tsp coriander
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 5-6.5 cups vegetable broth, depending on how thin/thick you want it
  • 1/2 cup dry red lentils
  • 1/2 cup dry black beluga lentils
  • 1 cup dry green/brown lentils
  • Kosher salt & pepper, to taste (I used about 1/2 tsp salt)

  1. In a large skillet or pot, add the oil and sauté the onion and garlic over low-medium heat for about 6-7 minutes.
  2. Add in the celery and sauté another few minutes. Stir in the spices and cook for another couple minutes on low.
  3. Now, rinse and drain the lentils and stir into skillet/pot. Add the broth and stir well. Increase heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, a simmer until thick and lentils are cooked, about 45 minutes to an hour. Watch closely and stir frequently so it doesn’t stick to the pot. Add more broth to thin out if desired. You can also use an immersion blender to blend some of the soup a bit. I did this, but left it mostly chunky. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Prepare yourself for a high protein and flavourful soup, great for all those sore muscles that we often have at the beginning of the year. A little bit goes a long way with this soup! It’s extremely filling and lovely with a toasted bun or piece of bread.

It’s a bit of an “ugly duckling” soup, but I think we learned not to judge food by its appearance long ago. ;)

I would like to get a passport – and USE IT – in 2012!

Kris January 9, 2012 at 7:23 pm

I’d like to focus on being healthier – doing the sports and exercises that are good for my mind, body, and soul and cooking good food. I was only recently introduced to your food blog so the other thing that I want to do in 2012 is learn how to make good food like you (using your recipes!)

Leah January 10, 2012 at 9:08 am

I want to learn Spanish! (or at least start learning). Then I want to travel and use my new language abilities

Mandy Farnham January 10, 2012 at 6:14 pm

I would like to do travel nursing in 2012! I’d love to get out and help people while seeing the world! I think it would be awesome!! :)

Sarah January 13, 2012 at 11:54 pm

One thing I want to do in 2012 is build a more professional wardrobe. I am stuck in a jeans and t-shirt/cardigan clothing rut and want to work on creating a more polished look for myself as I end out my 20s.

I made this last night for dinner as it was very rainy out and I wanted something warm and ‘stew-like’. I subbed the celery for kale as I had none, and I omitted the black lentils for more red as I also had none. The recipe tasted amazing! My dad even put some on his chicken haha. :)

I’d like to make a weekend trip out of the city (Toronto) and hike part of the bruce trail. I used to go with my family when I was younger and now that I’m back in the city after university, I’d love to revisit it. Plus, the hills around the Niagara escarpment are way more fun than a stairmaster!

Alex Phillips January 9, 2012 at 11:37 am

I would like to improve my french!

Sharon Clair January 9, 2012 at 11:37 am

I have joined a 10K running clinic and my goal is to run a 10K race in June, 2012.

Beth January 9, 2012 at 11:37 am

My goal in 2012 is to stop biting my nails. I’ve been doing very well so far considering I’ve had this habit for about 15 years!

Michelle January 10, 2012 at 9:16 am

So many goals! I ran my first marathon last fall and I would like to do more this year. More marathons, and more running. There is also an ultra, a 50-miler, I have my eye on …
Angela, this is the best blog. I learned a lot about being healthier and having a better relationship with food and my body, in part to your blog. Thank you immensely!

paula January 9, 2012 at 11:38 am

I am getting married in June, and my goal is to lose 5lbs and tone up!! This would be perfect right now!!

Something I would like to do in 2012 is complete my yoga teacher training!!

Tessa J January 9, 2012 at 11:39 am

I would absolutely love to go on a big romantic vacation with my hubs, but since that probably won’t happen, i’ll settle for planting an amazing home garden in 2012!

Kori January 9, 2012 at 11:40 am

For 2012, my goal is to have a consistent fitness routine! I love to run but have a hard time figuring what other exercises will work for the rest of my body…and this would be perfect!

Jen January 9, 2012 at 11:43 am

I’d like to lose 10 pounds!

Emily C January 9, 2012 at 11:44 am

I love hiking and would like become a part of the 4,000 footer club. It is a hiking club that signifies climbing all the mountain ranges in New England that are 4,000 feet or higher.

Caroline January 9, 2012 at 11:44 am

My goal is to incorporate regular weight lifting into my fitness. I am a mom of two little ones and run when I can, but I am hoping weights can take my fitness to the next level (and easy enough to do at night in front of the TV!).

Lauryn January 9, 2012 at 11:44 am

One goal in 2012 is to adopt my first dog from a shelter, hopefully in March!

Christiane Belliveau January 9, 2012 at 11:44 am

In 2012, I want to work towards being a healthier me! This DVD set would be a great addition to my workouts :)

Sarah January 9, 2012 at 11:44 am

I definitely want to take some yoga classes this year. I took lots of strength training classes like body pump and hard bodies in 2011 that were great but I’d love to change it up a bit this year. :)

Emily January 9, 2012 at 11:47 am

I want to run a marathon!

Tracy January 9, 2012 at 11:47 am

In 2012 I plan on applying myself to my full potential- as a person, as a teacher, and in my health and wellness.

That soup looks fantastic! I could go for a bowl right about now :)

Laura January 9, 2012 at 11:48 am

My 2012 goal is to wear a bikini on the beach in Hawaii. THIS would definitely help me achieve the goal of getting into my first bikini.

Brooke January 9, 2012 at 11:49 am

I started running in April 2011 and was able to complete three 5k races. My goal for 2012 is to complete my first half-marathon (already registered, May 5) and a Sprint Triathlon (August 4).

Jewels January 9, 2012 at 11:49 am

Oh of my fun things to do this year, hopefully if I can get the courage to go. Is to go to Hawaii!!! So of course I need a smokin hot body!!

beatriz January 9, 2012 at 11:49 am

for the first time ever, i have no goals to achieve other than feeling happy. i came to realize there’s nothing you can achieve from outside world that guarantees you that feeling, only thing you can do is work on yourself and learn to be content with nothing but your own self. no material achievements, neither fitness or comparisons, money, etc can give you that. of course, they can always add up and help but first feeling the need of not needing anything but feeling love and be loved.

The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh January 9, 2012 at 11:49 am

My goal in 2012 is to zipline!

[email protected] January 9, 2012 at 11:50 am

I’d like to learn how to strength train, and then actually do it a few times a week!

Laura January 9, 2012 at 11:50 am

I would love to go to San Francisco this year, maybe for my birthday.

Allison January 9, 2012 at 11:50 am

I would like to stop being so hard on myself and appreciate the little victories! :)

April Djibonon January 9, 2012 at 11:50 am

I would love to run a 1/2 marathon, and travel to Italy with my husband and son!!!

Wendy Ivins January 9, 2012 at 11:51 am

In 2012, I want to start the second half of my life healthier and stronger than I was the first 50 years! I am transitioning to a vegan lifestyle, trying to exercise daily and am signing up for the Wounded Warriors Tough Mudder Race with my 21 year old son!

Susan January 9, 2012 at 12:38 pm

Good for you, Wendy!! I’m sure you will show up people half your age in the race!

Jenn K January 9, 2012 at 11:51 am

This year I’d like to try out kayaking! I’ve always wanted to try it, and it’s time to stop talking about how much I want to do it and actually do it!

Danielle January 9, 2012 at 11:51 am

I plan to work on my running endurance and complete a half marathon.

Stephanie January 9, 2012 at 11:51 am

My goal is to stretch more. I had a bad back injury a few years ago + struggle with some anxiety, so upping my exercise, breathing and stretching are all must-dos this year!

Sara January 9, 2012 at 11:51 am

I’d like to get in better shape and feel more comfortable in my own skin.

Cindy January 9, 2012 at 11:51 am

This year, my goal is to become more balanced: working out and eating healthy to take better care of myself. Last year was a huge struggle to get out of the mindset of working out for only physical results. I want to workout and eat healthy because I enjoy it! =)

Joy January 9, 2012 at 11:51 am

My goal for 2012 is to become a physically and mentally healthier me. This will involve a lot of yoga, exercise, greens and other healthy foods. I am 22 and overweight and would really like to change that!

SarahT January 9, 2012 at 11:52 am

My goal is to lose and maintain a 10 lb weight loss through consistent workouts and less sugary snacks.

Jesi January 9, 2012 at 11:52 am

I want to learn to drive a motorcycle!

Laura S. January 9, 2012 at 11:52 am

I want to do a mini-triathlon – 1/2 mile swim, 13 mile bike, 5K run – in 2012. I’ve started training so I’ve taken my first steps. I love boot camp style workouts too and would love to try these. Thank you Angela!!!

Caitlin January 9, 2012 at 11:53 am

in 2012, my goal is to become more confident and continue to become the best version of myself possible ;)

Anna @ The Guiltless Life January 9, 2012 at 11:53 am

I took the Booty Camp bootcamp a couple of summers ago in BC and it was kick ass – so hard! Met on Tuesdays and Thursdays in a local park and they really put us through our paces, loved it! Still have the take-home DVD they give you there but would love a new one!

That lentil soup has impressive stats – that is a LOT of protein!

And something I’d like to do in 2012 is get in the best shape I’ve been in since I was 19 (7 years ago) and training for duathlons! Hopefully this DVD set would help me :)

Cheryl January 9, 2012 at 11:53 am

My goal for 2012 is to be nicer to myself, and to go to europe :)

Kelly January 9, 2012 at 11:53 am

I plan to get to The Gentle Barn in 2012 & volunteer – this is no ordinary resolution. I am bed bound most of every day, on disability and have no cash. I am going to get well & I am going to The Gentle Barn….somehow – someway. I have no doubt in my mind.

Leanna Hunt January 9, 2012 at 2:01 pm

My goals for 2012 are to continue to learn how to be kind to myself, to love my body even if I haven’t lost those last ten pounds and continue to not self sabotage with food. The mental transformations have been so amazing so far….here’s to a new year, a new me and a momentum that is continually picking up speed with happiness and success! (Oh and I did sign up for a full ironman in july. Ha!)
