Thoughts on Motherhood + Interview with Barre3

April 25, 2015

adrianaalmost7months

One of the greatest things motherhood has given me is a constant reminder to live in the moment. I can’t remember a time in my life that was filled with so many please-don’t-forget-this moments. I worry that the memories will fade with time, that I’ll forget the sleepy grin she gives me when I greet her after a nap or the way she tucks her chin and giggles when I tickle her or the bashful look she gives herself in the mirror, but that just makes me want to soak her up even more. Time isn’t slowing down; she’s teaching me how to instead.

I shared these thoughts on Instagram the other week and I thought I’d share it here too. Life has been so full lately with juggling motherhood and writing my next cookbook, but I do hope to get to a 7 month update soon! I just have to say that I think this is my favourite month yet.

I also want to pass along an interview I did with the lovely ladies at Barre3 where I talk a bit about my reflections on motherhood and balance, among other things.

Hope you are all well! Have a great weekend,

Angela

Aaaw, I know! Time is flying sooo fast and at the same time there are so many moments where I want everything to stand still (and, er, some that I don’t). Having a baby is definitely teaching me to be more mindful.

So great to read a post! You’ve been missed! I can only imagine how busy it must be, between recipe testing, baby love and such…great article!

Hi Angela!

My baby was born just about two weeks before Adriana….just like you, I can totally say that this has been by far my favorite month! He is changing so much and is becoming a small human being who can understand so much but cannot speak. Enjoy these moments because that will be your memories to cherish forever and dont worry so much about the updates! As much as we all look forward to your updates (I personally check your blog everyday and sometimes two-three times a day to see if you posted anything :-) ), we will all be here weeks, months down the road :-)

As a mother of 3 young ones, I just want you to know that you WILL forget a lot of those moments, and that will make you feel sad and awful. But what I’ve learned is that those moments are replaced with new memories….and a cycle begins. So soak her up and take a zillion pics, but don’t feel guilty 2 years from now when you can’t remember every detail. The important thing is to live in the moment, even if you’re not going to remember or document it. Because that is what is real, for you and baby.

I loved the interview, Angela!

The balance of the unbalance… All mothers strive to find balance in their life, but as you said, one can never have it all at once. We can have it all, but not at once. Understanding and being ok with this is a long process. One that I am still struggling sometimes with.

I have 2 young children and an (almost) full time job. I used to want to do everything perfect (being a good mother, preparing delicious and nutritious meals for my family, have a clean house, spend quality time with my husband and with my kids, being a great nutritionist, have time for myself) every day.

I have learned that if I want to be happy and satisfied with my life, I need to acknowledge that doing everything perfect every day does not exist. What exists is doing the best I can every day; and accepting and being okay with the results.

Very sweet post! My second daughter is almost 3 months old now and I can’t believe all the stuff I have forgotten from the first time around. It is so nice to be reminded of all the beautiful moments and to experience entirely new ones.

Have you tried Barre3 yet? I’ve been doing it for about 2 years now and love it so much. I use the online workouts and they helped me to be fitter than I was before the birth of my 1st daughter! I am hoping for the same success this time around. Fingers crossed!

I enjoyed reading the Barre3 interview! I didn’t know that Sean Kingston song until you mentioned it – I listened and love it! Will add to my workout playlist for sure :)

Hi Angela,

I love reading these baby and mom updates! Your daughter is precious!

Im not sure how else to contact you but the recipe index search on your blog has been missing for the past week. Its the one where you could search by course or ingredient. Will you bring it back anytime soon? It was so helpful! Thanks!
