Life with a Baby: Week 21

February 14, 2015

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Adriana’s newest thing is what I like to call The Mariah. Yup, she discovered her glass-breaking vocal chords and currently loves to squeak, squeal, and shriek alllllll day long. hah. I’m not kidding when I say all day long. Oh man, the girl has some pipes on her. I texted my friend and I was like…sooo this is just a phase, riiiiight? hah.

I took to Twitter:

Another silly thing she’s doing is what I like to call the 90-year old granny. She sucks her lips inward and looks like an old lady who forgot to put her dentures in. Our theory is that she’s trying to suck up all the drool off her chin.

Also enjoys: rolling back to tummy (but not so much tummy to back), grasping toys, exersaucer, this baby doll that laughs when you press it, holding our fingers, grabbing my hair and face, pulling out my hair (or what’s left of it), staring at Sketchie (she’s really taken notice to the cat this week and loves watching him).

The major progress of the week is that Adriana is starting to sleep longer stretches again. I feel like the 4-month sleep regression (or as some like to call it, the 4-month sleep progression since they make all kinds of great developments during this phase) seems to be letting up a bit. She’s waking up a few times a night, but a couple of those times she usually falls back to sleep on her own within a few minutes. It’s a damn miracle. This week I’ve been feeding her once overnight (usually around 3ish) and then not again until the morning. I feel like we are slowly, but surely getting into better groove! I’m sure it will all go out the window once she’s teething, but for now it’s nice to feel a bit more rested. We’ve been dealing with the sleep regression for a month and a half now, so we are more than ready to sleep. Bring it on, sleepy dust, bring it on.

We seem to be getting into a good routine lately. Wake up time is 7am on average. She goes down for a morning nap around two hours after waking, then a lunchtime nap, and then a late afternoon nap (which doesn’t start any later than 4pm now). This schedule has helped her sleep a lot better. She is usually awake 2-2.5 hours between naps which is working very well right now. She seems so much happier these days.

We had her 4 month doctor’s appointment this week (we were a bit late booking the appointment) and it went well. Her weight is right at the 50th percentile. She’s grown 6.5 inches since birth which puts her at 26.5 inches (90th percentile for height!). She’s growing like a weed. Girl is going to take after her tall daddy no doubt.

Well, gotta jet…we’ve got a busy day ahead! Hope you have a great weekend,

XO

Oh Angela, she is absolutely beautiful. I have read your blog for years and while I enjoy your recipes, I just can’t get enough of hearing about your baby adventures. Maybe it’s because I have two boys that are now 12 and 15

And 6.5 inches wow….I need to remind myself that if I were growing that much that quickly I’d have some fussy moments too

Oh the legs…so cute!
I remember the Mariah phase. I thought I was going to lose my mind! It lasted about 3 weeks for my Fiona. Hang in there. And make a video! It’ll be funny…later, when you’ve gotten some sleep. ;-)

My sister called me yesterday and my niece was in the background singing. She just turned one and I asked if Mariah Carey was at her house cause she was definitely hitting the high notes!!!

Your baby is adorable! I think our a must be nearly the same age…mine was born Sept. 24. We are also in the 4-month sleep regression/cranky-pants phase and I am looking forward to some improvements! I think things are slowly improving. Its so great seeing all of their new skills though. The baby babble is the best (even if its a little mariah-ish) as well as the crazy wide-eyed wonder look on their faces. Love making my little girl laugh with silly faces.

Hi Angela-

I absolutely love seeing the pix and hearing your “life with a baby” story. I have four children (7,11,13,15) and they are still the pride and joy in every day of my life. I am inspired by how you cherish the moments with her, even though they are challenging, at times. I struggle with this today, even though I remember fondly those sleepless nights and backbreaking Baby Bjorn days. I also am a vegan and can relate to your need to feed yourself with the best food, so you can be your best and in turn give your baby the best. It is really a gift you are giving her every day. Thank you for your open honest approach to life that helps us all to get through those difficult times. Wishing you many years of smiles and laughter with your beautiful baby girl!

That is so funny! The sqeeling and lip sucking! I have 6 kids and my youngest is 7 1/2 months and he is my first one to suck his lips in all day! And I know all about the sqeeling! Sometimes he likes to let out a few screams too! Her outfit is adorable! And I love her blue eyes!!

So funny! My girl was born on the 26 October (so about a month behind Adriana) and at her last doctor check a week ago she was also at 50% for weight and 90% for height! Also a very tall daddy here! ;-)
And yey, I think the sleep regression started about 3 weeks ago here (together with more fussiness and neediness during the day) so I think she got into that stage a bit earlier (or for a longer time span). Yey. ;-)

We are always fighting naps during the day here. She does not understand that she’s tired (always 2 hours after waking up last) and fights the naps with all her might. Putting her into the crib results in epic screaming. Oh well, these things shall pass as well (I hope).

Our babies are about the same age and very similar! My little boy has really improved his nights after the 4 month regression but naps are still 30 minutes. We have the Merlin’s Magic Sleep Suit too and it works as well as the swaddle now that he’s used to it, but it doesn’t help him sleep any longer. He still takes 4-5 naps a day! So happy for you that your nights are improving! How long are naps now?
