After dealing with a leaky (and often explosive) food processor for over a year, it was finally time to break down and hunt for a new one. Next to my blender the food processor is my second most used kitchen appliance, so I want one that does the job well. After asking for your input on my Facebook page and reading reviews, I decided to buy the Cuisinart 14-cup food processor. I heard mostly positive things about Cuisinart processors and figured it was worth a shot!
So far, it lives up to the hype! I’ve been using it for a couple months now and it works great. I also love the huge buttons on the front. It’s straight-forward and easy to use which is always a good thing for those of us who are appliance challenged. [This is coming from the girl who broke a previous food processor on the very first try. I blame the bone-dry honey dates!] I am looking forward to trying out the dough setting too.
My only complaint is that crumbs get stuck in the lid and I haven’t found an easy way to get them out. A butter knife seems to do the trick, but it’s a bit annoying that I can’t seem to take apart the lid. I read that others have this problem too, so hopefully Cuisinart remedies this in their next release.
Since my purchase, I’ve been making nut butter like nobody’s business. What better way to break in a new processor and see what it’s worth? This one today is a lovely “every day” nut butter just bursting with nutrition.
So far, the new Cuisinart is holding its own. I’ll report back at the end of cookbook testing. It could be a long road…
Kitchen Sink Nut Butter

My goal was to pack as many healthy ingredients in as possible. I ended up adding walnuts, almonds, pecans, flax, chia, hemp, pure maple syrup, fine grain sea salt, pure vanilla extract, and a touch of coconut oil for an ultra silky feel. You can’t tell by the photo how many amazing ingredients are lurking inside, but it’s packing a nutritional powerhouse. Feel free to play around with the seeds and nuts depending on what you have in your own kitchen.
Ingredients
- 1 & 1/4 cups raw almonds
- 1/2 cup raw pecans
- 1/4 cup raw walnuts
- 1 tbsp flax seed
- 1/2 tbsp chia seed
- 1 tbsp hemp seed
- 3 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1/2 tbsp coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- fine grain sea salt, to taste (you want the flavour to pop!)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 300F. Line a baking sheet with parchment or a non-stick mat. In a large bowl, mix together the nuts, seeds, and maple syrup. Spread out mixture onto baking sheet and bake for about 14-15 minutes minutes or until lightly golden, stirring once half way through. Watch closely after 10 minutes.
- Remove from oven and allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes before placing into a food processor. Process for about 10 minutes, stopping to scrape the bowl every 30-60 seconds as needed. The mixture will be very drippy and smooth when it’s ready. It may seem like it will never come together, but don’t lose hope. Add in the vanilla, salt, and coconut oil and process until combined and smooth.
- If you’d like crunchy almond butter, stir or pulse in chopped nuts.
Tip:
Store in a sealed container in the fridge. Will keep for at least 1 month.
I don’t say this often, but the best part of this recipe is the clean up!
I’ll be back this weekend with my new blog header and winner of the giveaway! Have a great Friday.
Love your blog, I don’t get to comment often, but your recipes are amazing.
I have the same food processor and putting the lid on the top rack of my dishwasher makes cleaning the top easy.
I may have to try the plastic wrap recommendation above, as that sounds pretty easy as well!
Good Luck! I love my food processor!
Thank you Shannon!
I finally made this. It is SO yummy!!!! I had the same problem as others getting the creamy texture. It came out crumbly even after 15min. of processing and adding extra coconut oil. BUT, that has not slowed me or my husband down from digging in! SO GOOD! :)
Oh nooooo, I just killed my food processor making this nut butter!! Its not in butter form yet, but it’s delicious anyway :-)
Quick question – is there a good sub for the coconut oil and or the hemp?
Hey Kim! You can leave the hemp seed out if need be and the oil can be left out too or you can sub with a light tasting oil or a bit of earth balance maybe?
I love making this – so good! It takes forever in my little processor and I think I’m going to kill it every time I make this. I’d like to get a new one for Christmas. Is your Cuisinart still holding up good for you?
I made this two days ago….and it’s already gone! My husband and daughter ate most of it before I could. Making another batch today, but this time I’m going to double it. It’s absolutely amazing! Thank you so much!
I just made this and went full on honey badger on the bowl after scraping it. Anyone who goes from scraping to sink has lost their stinking mind! I was trying to figure out the best way to get my fingers in the crease at the bottom of the bowl. Haha! Thank you so much for posting this! I foresee myself heading back to the store for more almonds tomorrow and making this again before the day is over. I have a TON of every other ingredient left, and fortunately, the almonds are the cheapest part. I cannot say enough how amazing this is!
Sidenote, we too have a Cuisinart, and it did a fantastic job. It took more like 15 minutes in the food processor, but it did come to the drippy consistency you said.
Enough posting and back to eating… with toasted Ezekiel 4:9 bread. Oh, HEAVEN! |D
Hi Angela, I tried this amazing nut butter last night but didn’t quite come out the way your pic looks. You say “The mixture will be very drippy” but mine wasn’t quite there yet. I tried adding more maple syrup but what do you think I did wrong? I still can eat it and love it but I want to make them more DRIPPY on next batch. Any suggestion? (FYI- I used Vitamix Blender)
Has anyone tried the nutri bullet? My sister in law recommended it to use as a juicer and food processor. I’m all new to this!!
RICH GOOD things to your SOUL!
What would be the best appliance to use for straining Nut butters to Nut Beverages?!
Yummy! After roasting the nuts & seeds & maple syrup it was hard to stop eating the bits off of the roasting pan and get them into the food processor! Love the result – the sweetness will replace my craving for jam on my nut butter. Bravo!
I know this is an old post, but I have been trying to make small amounts of nut butters (1 c nuts) in my food processor and once the nuts get chopped up, they slide under the blades and nothing gets processed into butter. I scrape and add more liquid, but the nuts continue to gather under the blades and after 20 minutes or so, I just give up. I don’t make large amounts of butter because I am the only one that uses it. Can you suggest another way to process these so they will eventually turn to butter? I’m assuming my processor is too large for the amount I am making. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.
Hi Angela,
Really glad Dr Lee told me how great your blog is.
You are so inspiring!
I am really trying to change my way of eating and will need to get a food processor ( never had one before) and wanted to check that you still love the 14 cup cuisinart food processor you recommended. I have never owned one before but want to get a good one that will last.
Thanks, Barbara
Oops really wanted to get that idea across that I do not know how to use a food processor! Ha ha.
Hey Barbara, I’m so happy to hear you enjoy the blog! Thank you :)
Yes I still use and enjoy my 14 cup Cuisinart, however I don’t necessarily think you need one that large. I think a 12 cup would be more than enough. Just my two cents. Take care!
My old food processor was cheap and so loud I can’t make butters due to apartment living. Is the cuisine art loud?
I wouldnt say the machine itself is overly loud – it’s more the clattering of the nuts that makes the loud noise! Luckily, this only last for 5 seconds or so until they break down. :)
Thanks! Based off your article I went out and got the 12 cup cruisiart elite processor and it was well worth the money. My cheaper B&D processor took 30+ min and could not be in the same room without earplugs. My new one took 12 min flat. Thanks for the great info!
Hi Angela;
any update on how the processor fared post cookbook? would love an update.
Thanks!
its still going strong and I LOVE it!
Hi Angela, I just love your Website and your recipes are absolutely awesome!!! Thank you so much =O)
The reason for writing in this post is the cuisineart 12 cup food processor I got today. First thing I made was almond butter. Super easy and really quick. Second thing were the Yolos from your book. They are SO yummy!!!
As I read all the comments here about what a pain it is to clean the lid, I wasnt so much looking forward to that part… but what can you do? It came out that cleaning the lid is not a problem at all. As this post is originally from 2012 you probably figured that out yourself already. But I wanted to share anyways. I put the lid into the sink with a little water and brushed it with a dishwashing brush, rinsed it and it was all clean again. Very easy =O)
Wishing you all the best for you, the baby and your hubby as well.
Greetings from Germany, Anke
I have decided to buy a food processor. I have never owned one and I am excited about all that it does. I have a vitamix but was not successful at making nut butters. It sounded like the motor was going to burn out and I didn’t want to risk breaking it. I also tried to make salsa in it and it came out way too liquified. It could just be user error. But I LOVE it for my smoothies and for soups!! However I want a machine that can chop and shred. I think it will help me cut my time down in the kitchen now that I have two little ones (it can be challenging). After having used this for a while is this still the processor that you would recommend? Two other models that I have thought about are: Cuisinart DFP-14BCN 14-Cup Food Processor, Brushed Stainless Steel or Cuisinart DLC-2011CHB Prep 11 Plus 11-Cup Food Processor, Brushed Stainless. I would also be getting the 12 cup model of this one instead of the 14 because I don’t think we’ll need one quite that big and I’ll save a little money.
When making these nut butters, you don’t need to take the skins off the almonds or hazelnuts?
