B.O.B. Revolution Pro Review

April 30, 2015

BOBrevolutionproreview-7624

Just a quick note: This is not a sponsored post (as a reminder, I don’t do sponsored posts on OSG). I recently purchased this stroller and I want to share my review! I have no affiliation with B.O.B. (If B.O.B is reading, I would be happy to host a giveaway for my readers though!)

My Review of the BOB Revolution Pro Single Stroller

I finally took the plunge and bought the BOB Revolution Pro after testing out a ton of strollers over the past couple months. I love to walk every day in the spring and summer, so I wanted something to take “off-roading” on the trails. I also want a stroller that I can jog with now that Adriana is over 7 months old and the weather is getting nice! After a winter that felt super long, I’m ready to say buh-bye to the treadmill in our dingy basement and say hello to the glorious outdoors.

So far, I’m extremely happy with the B.O.B. Revolution Pro! The ride is incredibly smooth. You can even feel the suspension system in the handlebars just by pressing down on them – the stroller has some bounce! Or as Eric said, great shocks. It’s a dream to lift onto curbs (something our Peg Perego Book Plus stroller struggles with). I wasn’t sure whether to get the Pro version (which is the only version that has a hand break), but I’m glad I did because I feel the extra safety is worth it. If I’m going downhill I can lightly press on the break to provide more control.

BOBrevolutionproreview-7599

It also has a parking break near the under basket that can be kicked to lock the stroller in place:

BOBrevolutionproreview-7628

The first thing I noticed is how quiet this stroller is compared to our other one. Yes, even on the trails. It’s a serene, peaceful ride!

As you can see, the large seat is quite deep and it provides a lot of protection from the elements.

BOBrevolutionproreview-7623

I’ve heard that some babies don’t like facing forward so I wasn’t sure how Adriana would like it, but she loves it so far. The first walk she slept for over an hour and the other times she has just chilled out while talking (“BA BA BA BA BA BA BA BA” lol) to herself and enjoying the scenery. Hopefully this lasts! I love having a buddy on my runs!

The canopy has a few different positions to block the sun. Fully extended, it goes very low which is awesome if the sun is at a tricky angle and in baby’s face.

Here it is fully extended:

BOBrevolutionproreview-7619

You can also reduce the fully extended canopy by 50% which is what I often do when it’s sunny.

Shorter canopy:

BOBrevolutionproreview-7624

I also love the flap that rolls up on the top of the canopy revealing a “window” that I can peek down and see her.

OPEN:

BOBrevolutionproreview-7608

CLOSED:

BOBrevolutionproreview-7609

The front wheel can be locked in place for extra stability (“run mode”) or you can leave it unlocked (“walk mode”). Without a doubt, the stroller is easier to maneuver when the front wheel is unlocked, but they recommend you lock the front wheel for extra safety and control when jogging. It’s quite the workout I tell ya!!

BOBrevolutionproreview-7591

The storage basket:

BOBrevolutionproreview-7615

it’s not a huge amount of storage, but it’s decent. The basket just fits our fully stocked Skip Hop diaper bag (I have to jam it in) OR it’ll fit my purse and a couple smaller items.

BOBrevolutionproreview-7611

There are two mesh pockets in the seat where I assume you can store a bottle, snacks, etc. On the back of the stroller (photo below right) there is a large mesh pocket where you can stash….a newspaper? tissue? food? Ok moms and dads, tell me what YOU put in this back pocket!

bobstrollereview

Eric’s take: He loves this stroller so much. His legs are too long for the Peg stroller (#talldudeprobs), but he doesn’t have this issue at all with the B.O.B. The handlebar also adjusts to 9 different positions which is awesome if you are tall and need a higher height, or conversely, if you are shorter and want it lower.

BOBrevolutionproreview-7665

The main drawback is the size – 28 pounds (which is 5 pounds more than our Peg) and takes up its fair share of real estate, but I definitely wouldn’t say it’s unmanageable. I actually thought it would be a bit heavier than it feels. The stroller just fits into our sedan-sized trunk (photo above), with room to squeeze in a couple small bags. The front wheel can also come off for easier storage so that will save some space in the trunk too. As we all know, there are many strollers for different purposes, and given what the B.O.B. is intended for I think it’s a fair size and weight!

One thing that jumps out about the B.O.B. is the quality. You can really tell it has solid construction.

Closing it and opening it up took a few tries to get the hang of it, but it’s pretty easy now!

bobrevolutionprostrollerreview BOBrevolutionproreview-7596

I purchased a couple accessories for this stroller. The first one is the handlebar console (above) which has room for two beverages and it has a zip pocket where I stash my keys, iPhone, etc. I’m really glad I got this accessory because I use it ALL the time. The other accessory I purchased is the rain shield. We haven’t used it yet, but I’m sure it will come in handy.

You know what would make me even happier? If the accessories were included with the stroller! Let’s be real; the BOB isn’t cheap and while I believe that you get what you pay for with this stroller, I do think it would be a nice touch if the company included some of the bells and whistles rather than making you pay for them separately. So whaddya think, BOB? =)

There is also a snack tray accessory that you can purchase. I didn’t buy it, but it might come in handy when she’s older.

All in all, I see the B.O.B. as being an investment piece, much like a Vitamix. Yes, it’ll run between $400-600 depending on whether you purchase it in the US or Canada, but you can also score gently used strollers on Craigslist or Kijiji. I also have friends who have sold their used B.O.B. strollers and recouped over half the price! They seem to hold their value very well. If you are in the US you can buy the B.O.B. Revolution Pro on Amazon.com for around $430.

Ok this turned out to be a massive review! I hope this is helpful for those of you who are on the fence about a B.O.B. much like I was.

In a future post, I’ll talk about jogging with the B.O.B. and how I’m finding it, what I’m doing, and tips I’ve learned.

I should seriously check this out for running with my toddler! For hiking I still like to wear him, though. It gives a smidge more flexibility, depending on where we go. Lots of cliffs and river gorges where we live and it’s not so stroller friendly!

We are a few years out of the stroller game, but we had a double BOB and it was amazing! It was worth every penny! And we did sell it for a good chunk of change after 4.5 years of using it!!!

We absolutely love our Bob Revolution (don’t have the pro). Just a tip to the US readers, we bought ours at REI since we are members. We had issues with the canopy not locking all the way down and I tore the basket trying to shove bags in there. After 2 years of heavy use someone told me REI would replace it and sure enough we wheeled the old one in and they gave me a completely new one with no issues.

I take my Bob on really rugged trails all the time and people are always so surprised when they come across us, but my baby loves it, and the Bob makes it so easy. Also, I have to say that I have come to really prefer running with the Bob vs without it, because I feel that it forces me to run with good posture by using my core. Definitely a full body workout!!

Great review! I had a Bob Revolution for six years and I agree that it is a great stroller. I have a couple of tips for you…..1) You don’t need the snack tray. The little mesh pockets are fine to hold little containers and if you give kids too much snack access in the stroller, it will make a mess! 2) One more accessory you may want to consider – some sort of stroller clips so you can clip your diaper bag onto the handlebar. This won’t work for running, and it will make the back of your stroller heavy, which reduces stability, so you don’t want your bag to be super heavy, but rather than having to access your bag underneath the stroller (which is a pain), you have easy access to it hanging right in front of you AND it frees up the storage space underneath so you can sneak in a quick grocery shop. :)

We also have the revolution pro (in green!) and love it. Our daughter is 10months old and loves riding in it. Couple tips: if you have problems with your canopy flipping up call bob. I did and they are sending me a new canopy. We also have a skip hop diaper bag. Ours is the messenger style-so my husband will also use it ;) Our bag has stroller or shuttle clips on it. So maybe yours does too. I didn’t know where they were the first time I tried but they are on the inside of the straps where is connects to the bag. I just extend them the way out and the bag hangs just under my handlebar consule. We scooted our handlebar consule up farther towards the hand brake and my husband tipped the break up a little so it wouldn’t get in the way but was still usable. And the big mesh pocket? I’ve put diapers wipes sweatshirts etc… In there. We LOVE our stroller! We tell our daughter she has a chariot! Happy Trails to you & your daughter!

We LOVE our BOB! My SIL has a phil and teds and it doesn’t compare to the ease of the BOB both in take down/put up and the smooth ride.

When we were researching what stroller to get, we read a review of the BOB that stated a person backed into the stroller with the baby in it and the car’s bumper bent around the stroller and the baby didn’t even wake up. That’s a good product!

We also have the infant seat adapter for the Britax B-safe car seat and it’s super easy to use.

Granted my daughter just turned 9 but I purchased a B.O.B stroller when she was 3 because we were going to France for two weeks and going to do a lot of walking. I was concerned how she would handle not being able to take naps during the day and I researched many strollers and this was the one that I felt that she could sleep comfortably in. My husband about died when I told him how much I paid for the stroller and grumbled but once we had the chance to push it around the streets of France he was sold. I think one day she slept a solid straight 6 hours in it (had a tough time adjusting to the time change). I did splurge and purchased the travel case knowing airlines are not always that careful with strollers. Well worth the investment as I could pack other items in with the stroller. I was little concerned that the stroller would be too big for some of the small spaces in France but the never was problem it actually worked to our advantage that the stroller feels like it can turn on a dime. I used the stroller up to 6 years of age and sold it about 2 years ago for about 60% of what I paid for it. So I am in total agreement with you. A big investment but a good return on investment. Still get excited this stroller although I don’t need one anymore but I still recommend it to all new Moms.

I’ve wanted a BOB for years but it’s never been in the budget. This makes me want one even more. Great review!

Wait wait wait. Is that short hair I see?

I do not have a baby, but this seems like a great stroller! I’ll definitely recommend it to friends who are having babies. It certainly looks safe and sturdy.

yes it is! I got several inches chopped off a month or so ago. So happy to have shorter hair for summer (and it’s so quick to dry which is pretty life-changing these days)

Maybe this is a dumb question, but is this only for toddlers?

Hi Vikki,

This is from their website:

BOB recommends that children should be at least 8 weeks old before riding in a BOB stroller without a BOB Infant Car Seat Adapter and compatible infant car seat. Please note that babies incapable of holding their head up must have additional head and neck support to ride safely and comfortably. With the addition of the BOB Infant Car Seat Adapter and compatible infant car seat, newborns may be able to ride in the stroller. The Infant Car Seat Adapter is designed for walking only due to the higher center of gravity. This accessory will allow parents to use select infant car seats with BOB Strollers.

Capacity: 8 weeks to 70lb, 31.75kg (Occupant plus luggage weight); from birth with the use of an Infant Car Seat Adapter & compatible Infant Car Seat. Maximum occupant height is 44in, 112cm. Do not exceed maximum weight or height, as stroller will become unstable.

They recommend consulting with your pediatrician before running with the baby and generally recommend not running until 8 months, noting that baby’s development will vary.

Hope this helps!

Yup, we loved our B.O.B too. We got the sheepskin liner for fall/winter/let’s-face-it-spring-too (Alberta, lol) and it was really great – I always felt it added a cosy warmth and extra cushioning. Would recommend that for the months to come. There was a time when the only nap my boy got was when he was in his B.O.B. and mommy was walking…and walking… and walking. Used the rain guard a lot! lol It’s good when it is windy as well. Enjoy these days – they go really fast. My boy is 3.5 and our stroller days are already well behind us.

My mom will chuckle reading your Alberta comments because she lives there too.

Best stroller ever! I use it as my every day one and for runs. its also awesome on the beach, and great for taking naps (her, not me…). I’ve gotta say though… what a workout when actually used while jogging!

Yup…it certainly is! It’s no joke pushing 28 pounds + baby/toddler weight. Question – Do your arms ever feel like they aren’t going to fall off? lol. I’ve been doing strength training for months (plus holding my 17 pounder) and my arms are still burning during the runs!

I have the Bob and it’s my 3rd stroller (4th if you include the Chariot, which is a double and only used for bikes and we still have it). I had the Bugaboo Frog and the City Mini – both great, but not as suited to my lifestyle as a Bob. The Bob is fantastic! And, added bonus when you have a second kid, one can sit fairly comfortably on the foot rest. My 5-yr old will ride there when she’s tired or we need to get somewhere fast, while the baby is strapped into the seat. Suggestion: buy the fuzzy seat cover thing. It’s super cozy and warm, and makes the seat much softer.

I just recently got a BOB revolution flex (no handbrake), and while i love it for what it’s made for (jogging/trails), i have to admit it feels a bit flimsy, compared to our uppababy vista, which we had from our first son. I guess it needs to be light enough for running. Back pocket behind the seat always has baby sunscreen, wipes and a diaper. :)

Thanks fr the review. I love your pictures that you have put together for the review. Really good, gives the buyers a great idea of the quality they can expect from the product itself.

I have a BOB and I love it too! I got an orange Revolution when my now eight-year-old was born and used it solely for the first couple years (aside of traveling, got to have an umbrella stroller for that, got a Maclaren) and it’s a dream aside of being so darn heavy!

When my second came along, now two, I used the BOB just for taking walks and running, no more hauling it in and out of the car, and got a Bugaboo for everyday use. It’s lighter, but comes apart in two pieces so I can’t say it’s much better.

I tell everyone who is pregnant and will listen, skimp on anything else you can, but buy the best stroller you can afford. You will ever be sorry. I’m glad you’re enjoying yours so much.

We love our BOB too! We use it ALL the time for both in the city and off roading and it handles both perfectly. We did get the rain shield and it has been amazing for being able to stay out when it gets windy or wet (and after the first try it became very easy to put on and off). We stash it in the back mesh pocket!

I also love how easy the wheels come off for easy storage in cars and trunks-we have a hatchback and have to remove 1 of the larger wheels every time. I thought this would prove to be a huge inconvenience-but it’s not! I can even get the stroller together and out of the car while holding the baby (bonus multi-tasking!).

So glad you bought one and are loving it!

We had this stroller for our son (without the handbrake) and it was also great in the winter. We live only about 5 minutes away from a mall and grocery store, and sometimes you just have to get out. It handles in the snow (even pretty deep snow), never got stuck and with the rain shield it blocks the wind and blowing snow. Great stroller!

I loved the BOB revolution ce for my daughter!! In fact, I purchased the duallie version 6 months ago so I could take my 2 1/2 yr old and 9 month old with me on runs. Let me tell you, the duallie with 2 kids is no joke!!! I feel like I’m pushing an elephant up a hill when there’s an incline. I totally agree that some of the accessories should be included given the price. I mean, come on, is it really going to cost the company that much to add a handlebar console to each stroller.

As for running, make sure you aligned the wheels properly and also make sure they are inflated correctly. Makes a world of difference. Also, when running, try alternating which hand you are steering the stroller with. If it’s aligned right you should be able to easily steer it with one hand while running.

I love being able to take the kids with me for my short runs! They seem to love it too most of the time.
