Most Popular Healthy Recipes of 2014 (Vegan, GF) + News!

by Angela (Oh She Glows) on January 2, 2015

Happy 2015! To welcome the New Year I have some exciting news to share. You’ve been asking me for months and I can finally tell you that I’m working hard on a second cookbook! It’s slated for 2016 (official date TBA) and I’m incredibly excited to create this next collection of fresh, healthy, and inspiring recipes for you. I’ve been listening to your feedback over the past several months, and I hope to create a second book that will make a kick-butt companion to the first. I’m bursting with ideas and simply can’t wait to share it with you.

I remember vividly how daunting the creation of the first cookbook felt. I took on all of the writing, recipe development, food styling, photography, etc. It was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done and I felt like quitting a few times, but having come through the other side I realize it was just part of the journey. I feel like the second cookbook process will go more smoothly in some ways; I now have a solid organizational system in place as well as the experience of creating the first book under my belt. I will do many things differently this time, and I know where I’m headed (which is half the battle). Other parts of the next book will surely feel more challenging because I now have a baby who’s becoming more active as the days go by (this year, she’ll be crawling, walking, etc….crazy!). But I’ll figure out a new normal, as I have been these past 3 months. One bonus since having her is that I find I’m much more efficient when I do sit down to work. I can crank out a blog post in half the time now. Well, on a good day, anyway.

One thing is for sure, I can’t wait to see this new cookbook come to life! And I am so thankful for your enthusiasm for a second book. After going through a lull in creativity during my pregnancy, I totally feel like I have that spark back and ideas are pouring into my mind on a daily basis. I have hundreds of recipe ideas and a dozen new recipes already in the vault. It’s a solid start.

PS – I will be putting out a call for recipe testers in the coming weeks. I just need to finish getting the testing site ready and the recipe feedback and submission forms in place. Last time I simply relied on a big group of friends and family as my recipe testers, but since many of you expressed interest to be a recipe tester I’m going to open it up to my dear readers. I will be looking for ALL kinds of skill levels, so don’t worry if you are just starting out. More on all of this soon. It’s going to be fun!

For an end of the year recap, I put together the most popular 15 healthy recipes of 2014. I left out the desserts because I figure most of us are looking for healthier fare this time of the year (with one big exception below because it was the chocolate hit of the year! Keep it in mind for Valentine’s Day). I’m also sharing some of your comments about the recipes below just for fun.

Most Popular Healthy Recipes of 2014 on Oh She Glows:

15. 5-Minute Oatmeal Power Bowl {4.9 stars out of 24 reviews}

Frances writes, “Hot oatmeal! My favourite! I’ve been having this every morning at work. I actually look forward to work because of this bowl. (is that weird?) Instead of soaking the oats though, I just put the oats, cinnamon, coconut sugar, and chia seeds in a small ziplock, and my toppings in another container. Then I’ll assemble and mix with almond milk and pop it in the microwave for a few minutes. Totally delicious and energizing! Loveee <3”

14. Glowing Green Pasta Primavera {4.9 stars out of 8 reviews}

Chris writes, “I just made this and had to come on here and post something about it. IT WAS AMAZING!! I didn’t even use a blender for the sauce, just added the ingredients at the end… sans the hemp seeds, was fresh out of hemp. But it still came out so amazing. The taste… And the colors… And the…EVERYTHING! Even my husband, a very non-vegan was amazed at the taste. I had to give him mine and came another for me. I cut the veggies in half for a single portion but made the sauce with the amount it called for… Worked out great!”

13. Banana Bread Muffin Tops (4.9 stars out of 19 reviews}

Roxane writes, “The kids approved of this treat! My youngest was even eating the batter raw off the spatula. My eldest took and bite and said: “this tastes just like a muffin! You can’t tell the difference.”

12. Speedy Veggie n Brown Rice Noodle Bowl {4.7 stars out of 10 reviews}

Kate writes, “This was omg fabulous. I am super picky about sauces and this one was phenomenal, I actually was eating some with a spoon, lol. Overall lovely mix of flavors and seasoning was perfect. I deal with a lot of food and allergy issues (gluten, dairy, nut free and low histamine) which has made eating and cooking incredibly difficult for some time. This blog helped get me back into enjoying cooking and eating again, so I am incredibly grateful for all the great recipes and comprehensive allergy info.”

11. Creamy 10-Spice vegetable Soup {4.8 stars out of 62 reviews}

Sheila writes, “GREAT recipe!!! I cannot say this enough. My husband and I were in the mood for soup and I thought I would try this out. We were blown away with how delicious this soup was! I made it again for a pot luck party at work and received so many compliments. There was not a drop left over! Thanks again Angela for another stellar recipe!”

10. Green Warrior Protein Smoothie {4.8 stars out of 4 reviews}

Brittany writes, “Thanks for creating a wonderful, delicious, and filling smoothie! I work in the medical field and don’t know when lunch will be. I have made this smoothie for the past 3 days and it has kept me full until lunch!”

9. Feel Good Hearty Granola Bars {5 stars out of 16 reviews}

Annaliese writes, “These are wonderful! I mixed up a batch last night for some back-to-school/broke graduate student snacks when hunger strikes at the lab, and they are wonderful. Not too sweet, crunchy from the seeds and nuts, and oh-so-oat-y! I also added in a TB of chia seeds for good measure. Will be trying these with dates and dried coconut next time! I love that the binder and major sweetener is banana…affordable, on-hand and good for you!”

8. Crispy Quinoa Cakes {4.7 stars out of 93 reviews}

Katie writes, “These are drop-dead delicious. I made these Tuesday night, I “tested” about 5 of them straight from the oven, I just ate the last of the batch for lunch today. So good. Next time I make these, I need to make sure I eat dinner BEFORE I make a double batch of these bad boys so I can make them last!”

7. Ultimate Green Taco Wraps {4.9 stars out of 46 reviews}

Jordan writes, “Made this for dinner last night…YUM! I used a packed of taco seasoning I already had in the cupboard instead of the spices in the recipe because that’s all I had. Was so good – I ate three and I still have HEAPS left over for lunch at work today…and dinner tonight. Maybe even lunch again tomorrow if I’m lucky ;) I also used green and brown lentils because that’s all I could find in the supermarket. Love this recipe – it’s so fresh and filling, but in the good, satisfying way. THANK YOU :)”

6. Almost Instant Chocolate Chia Pudding {4.8 stars out of 6 reviews}

Eva writes, “Delicious and easy! I added some carob powder and it made for a nice rich flavor. Thank you!”

5. Crispy Smashed Potatoes with Creamy Garlic Aioli {4.9 stars out of 81 reviews}

Zilia writes, “I had some dinner guests over tonight and make these… Even my 8 year old LOVED the avocado-aioli. Yum yum yum. Huge hit, thank you!”

4. Soft and Chewy Baked Granola Bars {4.5 stars out of 6 reviews}

Andrea writes, “Angela, I love these! What a fantastic, easy, healthy for me and my children. I am especially excited about these because they are nut-butter free, which means that I can pack them for my kids when they need a snack out of the house… almost everywhere we go requires that foods are nut-free.”

3. My Favourite Vegan Chili with Homemade Sour Cream {no reviews as the plugin isn’t working – will fix this soon!}

Leigh writes, “It wasn’t just me who loved your chili and sour cream but everyone in our house loved it. Okay, all 3 of us give it 2 thumbs up and our cat who LOVES the smell of cumin for whatever reason became “kitchen cat” while it was cooking!”

2. Cauli-power Fettuccine Alfredo {4.8 stars out of 35 reviews}

MB Savino writes, “I found your website when looking for some meatless recipes for my 21 year old vegetarian/vegan daughter for when she comes home for the weekend from college. I’ve made several, including this one and WOW it was great. My Italian husband gobbled up the fettuccini Alfredo and neither one of us felt guilty! We had some sautéed broccoli on the side and mixed it in as we ate, it was filling, delicious, and healthy. Also a recipe that can be made on a week night after work. It’s a keeper!”

1. 6 Tips for Flawless Kale Chips + All Dressed Kale Chip Recipe {5 stars out of 35 reviews}

Can you believe kale chips won??

Kimberly writes, “These were perfect! I’ve struggled with getting my chips ‘just right’ for a while now. So glad I found your tips!! I did have to adjust the time in the oven, but not by much! Thanks for posting.”

The most popular dessert award goes to my Double Dark Chocolate Coconut Macaroon Torte! You guys went nuts over this grain-free dessert (pssst – it’s nut-free too!) {4.9 stars out of 42 reviews}

Brigette writes, “I made two of these for a Hanukkah party I attended yesterday where the hostess was both gluten-free and vegan. I haven’t had a ton of luck producing vegan desserts I’m thrilled about in the past, but let me tell you… This was DELICIOUS. And easy! I had people following me around the party asking about it. Two women insisted I share the recipe. It is so rich and good, and it was perfectly suited for the occasion. I would definitely make it again. BRAVO!!!!”

So…which recipe was my favourite of the year? I’d have to pick my Crowd-Pleasing Vegan Caesar Salad! This has also been a popular recipe on the blog since I posted it at the end of November. {5 stars from 42 reviews}

Noreeny writes, “I made this as a New Year’s Eve treat for myself (along with the favorite chili recipe [which was also fantastic]) and this was by far – not a second of doubt in my review – the best Caesar salad I’ve ever tasted. Forget all the recipes with chicken/shrimp and dressing rich in milk products and anchovies. This is the real deal.”

As always, thank you for your feedback on recipes. I really appreciate when you give tips on substitutions you tried out (as I’m sure others do) and whether the recipe is kid/partner/family/friend approved.

Cheers to all the vibrant veggie-filled food we’ll eat in 2015! Can’t wait.

First off, all of these are absolutely mouth-watering! I think my personal favourite is the crispy smashed potatoes… I just can’t get over that garlic-avocado aioli.
And second, I couldn’t be more excited for your second book to come out. I already have my eyes set on applying to be a recipe tester – hope I make it ;)
Happy new year!

Hello Angela,

Just want ypu to know I had half a jar of your Caesar dressing left over and used it instead of vegan mayo in the aoli for the garlic smashed potatoes. AMAZING :)

Congratulations! What an exciting year you have ahead of yourself. :-) Can’t wait to see the new cookbook!

Happy 2015!!

Megan Jones January 2, 2015 at 7:07 pm

I have to agree with the Caesar salad pick! I made this as a part of the Christmas feast at my house. My brother’s girlfriend knows I only make vegan food, but still asked me if it was vegan or “regular.” So many great recipes on this list, though! Looking forward to throwing my name in the hat for recipe tasting. I was in the inaugural class for the Rouxbe Plant-based Professional course last year and would love to apply my new skills to test your fabulous recipes. Here’s to a great 2015!

Sherry January 2, 2015 at 7:21 pm

I’m with you on the Caesar salad. I don’t generally like Caesar salad due to all the nasty ingredients, but your clean, healthful version is delicious. I’ve made it 3 times already. The chocolate torte was also deadly. A guilt-free, decadent treat we enjoyed a few times since it was posted. The crispy smashed potatoes were also good, I’d forgotten about them so thanks for the reminder!

Whitney January 2, 2015 at 7:56 pm

I have enjoyed your cookbook and all your recipes this year. I am an avid cook, follow a gluten free diet, and have transitioned to a plant-based diet. I would LOVE to be a recipe tester. My picky 11 year-old and 8 year-old have given your recipes enthusiastic thumbs up. Thank you!!

Tara January 2, 2015 at 8:05 pm

This news is the best New Years present ever! I’m an omnivore, but your cookbook is my absolute favourite – I make recipes from either it or the blog at least once a week. Can’t WAIT to see what you include in the new one.

Alexandra January 2, 2015 at 8:13 pm

How exciting!
I would love to be a recipe tester for you. I will keep an eye on your posts.
Thank you for all the work you do!!!

Matea January 2, 2015 at 9:19 pm

Definitely not surprised the torte was the most popular dessert! It looks so delicious! :)

kamille January 5, 2015 at 12:06 am

Oh Yeah!

Scott Morris January 2, 2015 at 9:51 pm

So many great looking recipes. I’m going to have to start trying these out. as I like half the world attempt to eat healthier for their new years resolution :-) People often overlook the importance of their diet to their weight. Going to the gym isn’t going to make up for the donuts, soda and processed food that most people consume. Thanks for the recipe ideas!

Carol J January 2, 2015 at 9:56 pm

So excited for you in 2015! Your website and cookbook has changed my kitchen, my cooking and we are eating more plants! I just tried the Ceasar Salad recipe. I didn’t make it exactly because I only had kale and no lettuce, I didn’t have vegan Worcestershire, I had leftover pecan Parmesan from the Festive Kale salad (which I used) and I had some homemade croutons I wanted to use up. We aren’t vegetarian or wheat free but I am eating less and less meat and dairy. Anyways… My point is that the Ceasar dressing was as good as any we have had and my husband is really picky! I couldn’t believe it when he said “you can make this salad anytime”. Really delicious! I also took the Festive Kale salad to a pot luck the other night and had several requests for the recipe. Thanks so much for helping us eat more plants so deliciously! You go girl!

Caroline January 2, 2015 at 10:00 pm

I’m so excited about the new cookbook! I’m not vegan but your cookbook is my favourite (and I have a big collection!).

Katie January 2, 2015 at 10:39 pm

Those were most of my favourites too! Although they are all fantastic – pretty much every post I exclaim that it’s my favourite :) I’ve had to start compartmentalizing.

Congratulations on your second cookbook deal! I was one of the keeners who wanted to test for the first – I will most definitely be applying to test for the second! I cannot wait.

2014 was a fantastic year for you and your growing family, and I have no doubts that 2015 will be even better! Enjoy the moments and the milestones, and I wish you and your family all the best.

Caroline January 2, 2015 at 11:43 pm

I received your cookbook for Christmas and I CANNOT WAIT to start cooking with it!

Queenoffitness January 3, 2015 at 1:13 am

Congratulations. So excited you are writing a companion book!!! I am an everythingatarian and I absolutely adore your recipes. They are easy, delicious and crowd pleasing. I live in PA but I am chomping at the bit to be a tester. I have to make that macaroon tart and the pudding. Thanks for posting those as I completely forgot they were on my mental OSG “to make” list.

Mandy January 3, 2015 at 2:15 am

I have a few cookbooks I like, but yours is the only one I use every single week. And I’m not even a “dedicated” vegan. I cannot WAIT to see what’s in your second cookbook. Congrats!!!

Millie l Add A Little January 3, 2015 at 2:18 am

I love your caesar salad – so delicious!! And I am MAJORLY excited for cookbook no.2!!!! Congratulations Angela!

Shirin January 3, 2015 at 3:04 am

Hi Angela,

First, I have to say congratulations on the second book! I’ve been sharing your first book with so many friends and family and I refer to it and your blog so many times. I would absolutely love and be honored to be a recipe tester- guinea pig for any recipes.

Dani January 3, 2015 at 7:07 am

Angela, your website is the first place I go to when I’m looking for a recipe. If I have an ingredient I want to use I search your site for inspiration. I made several of your cookie recipes for Christmas gifts.
Your cookbook has also been indispensable to me since I picked it up months ago. I make chia donuts, chia bread, that hummus, those soups… On a regular basis. I am THRILLED you are creating another cookbook and I can’t wait to see it.
All the best in 2015 and thank you for all the nourishing and delicious recipes.

Caitlin January 3, 2015 at 7:32 am

Melissa Erlenbach January 3, 2015 at 9:31 am

Love, love your blog. Congratulations on all your successes this year and a special congrats on the birth of your first child. So, as if you didn’t already have enough challenges ☺️, I’d love to see more of your vision on raw-vegan, gluten-free recipes this year. I live in Florida where the weather is warm to scorching, and fresh and raw is so appealing! Health and Happiness to your and your family!

kathy January 3, 2015 at 10:52 am

I am so excited to hear you are putting out a new cookbook! I love your first cookbook! There are a lot of recipes that I love! My favorite out of there is the tomato soup . My kids love that one as well. I would love to be a recipe taster.

Eleanor January 3, 2015 at 10:55 am

I try to eat vegan as much as possible and have started to look into gluten-free diets as well and this post has given me a tremendous amount of motivation to continue – just the photographs alone make my mouth water! Thank you x

Stephanie January 3, 2015 at 11:21 am

Happy New Year! Last year was a big one for you and will be hard to top, but I am confident that you’re gonna pull it off.
Geez, your readers have great taste! A delicious list to be sure, the pesto primavera is my hands down favorite.
I am beyond excited to hear you are working on a new cookbook and and absolutely chomping at the bit to apply to be a recipe tester. It is very hard to find food that is vegan and jibes with all of our food allergies and your cookbook and blog always come through for us. It’d feel amazing to be able to give a little back.

Heather Mason January 3, 2015 at 11:23 am

oh my goodness, that torte looks amazing! I thought I was over desserts for a little while, but I guess not! These all look wonderful!

Kathryn January 3, 2015 at 11:38 am

Angela – your first cookbook changed my life. Not to be overdramatic, but seriously, it did! I have been a vegan for several years now but I feel like I didn’t really hit my groove with cooking and eating well until I received your cookbook as a gift and started making recipes from it. I can’t wait for round 2! Wishing you and your family all the best for this year – it will be a busy but exciting one for sure!

xx Kathryn

Angela (Oh She Glows) January 4, 2015 at 8:56 am

Thank you so much Kathryn! So glad I could be a part of your journey :) All my best in 2015!

Anne January 3, 2015 at 12:11 pm

I have read your blog for several years, and so many of your recipes have turned into my favorites. So of course I pre-ordered your cookbook when it came out! There have been a couple good ones, (even my nut hating husband really liked the walnut lentil loaf! :-) ) but actually I was a little disappointed as a whole. It seems like a lot of the recipes take a very long time to prepare, and for my personal preference there are way too many mushroom recipes. (Maybe I’m alone on that one though!) For cookbook number two it might be really nice if you had a section of quick & easy or something along those lines. I know cooking whole foods does take a little longer, but some of these just seemed too daunting to even attempt. But I am very excited to see what’s in cookbook number two!!

Anne January 3, 2015 at 12:11 pm

And, I would love to be a part of your behind the scenes practice test team!

Anna Lee January 3, 2015 at 12:13 pm

I am beyond excited to hear that you’re creating another cookbook! Congrats! Your cookbook has become my go-to and an absolute staple in my kitchen. If I’m bringing a dish to an event, it most likely came from your book or your website (I actually got on here today to find a dessert recipe for a girl’s night I’m having haha). My friends can almost expect me to say at some point during the night, “Oh it came from Oh She Glows” or more frequently, “Oh, it’s from my FAVORITE blogger!” As for being a recipe taster, I’m in! If I could professionally taste-test recipes/food all day, I would be a happy camper.
I can also attest to the popularity of your Green Warrior Protein Smoothie. I make it, or a version of it if I don’t have the ingredients, on a daily basis. When I have bell peppers and dandelion on hand, I like to throw those in to mix it up a bit!

Ella January 3, 2015 at 12:28 pm

I cook with your cookbook more than any other and though I’ve tried probably half of the recipes, there has not been even one we didn’t absolutely LOVE. HOORAY HOORAY!

callen January 3, 2015 at 12:29 pm

Congratulations! That’s great news! I have been loving trying the recipes in your first book, and they really have turned out so well that I can tell you tested them to perfection. I can’t wait to see what recipes you’ll come up with for book 2! Also, thanks for posting healthy recipes to start out the year…I definitely overdid it on the sweets this holiday!

Terri January 3, 2015 at 2:58 pm

OMG!!! Another book, sooooooooo excited. I have dirtied up the first one (real nice) as it is my go to in my kitchen. I feel like I should have another copy just to look pretty. Congrats on 2014 Angela, you have inspired and help me transition to a plant based diet. Your blog was the first I came upon when my journey started in 2013, then the book, whoa! Anyone who says plant based/vegan is too restricted has not seen your blog/book. Thank you, thank you and thank you.

Taylor @ What Vegetarians Eat January 3, 2015 at 3:53 pm

This is so excited and I wish you the best on your new adventure! I would love to help test your new recipes so I will keep a look out for that post. Can’t wait to try that caesar salad – all of these recipes sound so good!

Linda January 3, 2015 at 4:07 pm

Brilliant. I would love to be a recipe guinea pig for the new cookbook!! Thank you for all that you do.

i need to try those kale chips!

Kirsten lee January 3, 2015 at 5:07 pm

Happy new year! I’m thrilled that you will be doing another cookbook. Your blog and book are an inspiration and the best! I’d love to be a recipe tester!

Amy January 3, 2015 at 5:18 pm

Oh my gosh, I soooo want to be a recipe tester; I’ll be keeping an eye out for info. Congrats on your second book!

And I want to make all of these recipes now.

Kelsey J January 3, 2015 at 7:16 pm

YAY – I’m SO happy to hear you’re creating another cookbook Angela! I pre-ordered your first ages before it came out and could barely wait to get it into my hands. I’ve made so many of the recipes with rave reviews from friends, family, and colleagues. Your cookbook was one of my favourites from 2014.
I also made many of the recipes on your “best of 2014” list…and I can totally believe that kale chips took the top spot – even the veggie skeptics in my family can’t get enough of them ;)

lea January 3, 2015 at 7:18 pm

Hi Angela
You did much more than survive 2014. A new cookbook. A new home. A new baby. A new business, I am in awe. That’s a lot! Kudos to you and to Eric. I think next up for me will be a soup and a salad. 10 Spice Soup and Vegan Caesar. Congratulations on everything.

Cara January 3, 2015 at 8:07 pm

Just to be totally off-topic, I finally made your Vegan Nog tonight and am SO HAPPY about it! I am not a dedicated vegan (“just plain” vegetarian), but after reading the ingredients in my beloved egg nog, I just couldn’t do it to myself–forget cholesterol, I knew that was in there–but high-fructose corn syrup, carageenan, and I don’t know what-all else. Sugar and chemicals. I knew I had to try this one. I had to look up how much bananas and avocados normally weigh, so that I could make a 1/3 recipe, since you said it doesn’t save well and my husband actually doesn’t like egg nog, so I was on my own. It worked just fine and made one 12- or 14-oz. smoothie … and after New Years’, I finally got my nog! Thanks Angela!

Cara January 3, 2015 at 8:09 pm

P.S. Can you do a post on why I need a Vitamix? Because I’ve been wanting one for … ever, but other than smoothies, I can’t figure out if I can really justify it.

Jaime January 5, 2015 at 8:21 pm

It will change your world, truly! I bought mine 3 years ago and it is my favourite kitchen tool. I use it at least once a day. I know quite a few friends and co-workers who have bought it too. Its pretty amazing to hear the responses from Vitamix owners when the question comes up about why someone who spend so much on a blender. Get one!!!

Cara January 5, 2015 at 8:43 pm

So what do you make every day? Smoothies? Soups? I think if I were single I would have just splurged a long time ago, but I have to justify it to my husband ():-)

Jaime January 5, 2015 at 9:04 pm

Smoothies for sure, soups, cream sauces for pasta (cashew or sunflower seed
Alfredo), dairy free-ice cream, nut milks, making flours from oats or other kinds
grains, etc. My hubby loves ours :)

Annaliese January 3, 2015 at 11:31 pm

Hooray! I can’t wait for cookbook #2. My copy of your first is starting to dog-ear…it is well used, and rarely goes back on my bookshelf. Sometimes, I feel bad for the other cookbooks on my bookshelf, so I take them out too so they don’t get jealous. Um..just kidding…I don’t have feelings for my cookbooks…..haha. I am still enjoying the hearty granola bar recipe, and plan on whipping up another batch before the semester starts back up. Go you! PS: I’d LOVE to be a recipe tester :) Happy New Year!

Lauren @ Beautiful Plant-Based Life January 4, 2015 at 12:02 am

2014 was the year I transitioned to a fully vegan diet. Your cookbook literally changed my life. It was the very first vegan cookbook in my collection and helped me feel that I CAN stick with this (and love nearly every moment along the way). This has been an incredibly difficult year for my husband and I, as we lost our baby this spring (due to a miscarriage). Creating vibrant, vegan-friendly meals in our cozy kitchen has brought us some happiness and peace. I can’t thank you enough.

Mandy D January 4, 2015 at 12:57 am

All of your healthy recipes here look so great! I have made many of them and I loved all the ones I made! Especially your caesar salad!

I am so thrilled that you are coming out with a new cookbook! I loved your first one and have recommended it to many people and have let a couple ppl borrow mine too (“Get your own” I wanted to say lol).

I would love to test your recipes and give you some feed back, if any is needed. I have been creating my own wholesome recipes ever since I went on Mat leave! I am no longer eating any meat. So please let us (your fans) know when your recipe taste testing is ready! Excited!!

Leah January 4, 2015 at 4:06 am

Yay! Another book, excited for you Ange!!

Madde January 4, 2015 at 4:51 am

They all look fantastic, great inspiration for the new year!

Rashelle January 4, 2015 at 9:44 am

Congratulations on the new cookbook, and thanks so much for this post! I’ve recommitted to vegan eating for the New Year, and these recipes not only look delicious and healthy, but easy, too. Can’t wait to try a few!

Ashley January 4, 2015 at 10:25 am

Can’t wait for the next book! Can I ask you how in the world you do it?? I have a four month old and can barely load the dishwasher, much less write a book ;-) Pretty sure our Christmas tree is going to be up till June!

Jessica @ Dairy Free Betty January 4, 2015 at 11:24 am

I’m sure you have a million people commenting the same thing but I’d LOVE to be one of your recipe testers!! I have both a hard copy and a digital copy so it can come everywhere with me! hahaha Your cookbook is AMAZING and my all time favorite – I’m over the moon excited there is a second one coming out!!

Aly January 4, 2015 at 12:50 pm

This is the best news to start off my year!!! I’ll be pre-ordering multiple copies for myself and family whenever it’s available. I have turned on all of my family and friends to your blog and cookbook. Never have had a bad review. Can’t wait!!! Thanks for all of your dedicated work.

Sarah January 4, 2015 at 5:25 pm

Awesome news!!! I love your current cookbook. We made the luscious pasta last night and my two year old (the pickiest eater ever) ate the whole plate…you have no idea what a big deal that is! We’ve made you Caesar salad for tonight! Love your recipes…keep up the good work!

Janett January 4, 2015 at 7:47 pm

The cookbook is AMAZING! Been following the blog for a while and every single recipe is a success! I have to say 10 spice vegetable soup is out of this world. And today I made the savory oatmeal and lentils. YUM. You are by far the best and I’m so thrilled that you are doing a second cookbook. My husband finds it strange that I walk around with your cookbook and a notebook like I’m studying. Ha!

EVA January 4, 2015 at 8:47 pm

What does one have to do to be a recipe tester? I am TOO interested and am already drooling at the concept (and the torte picture is also helping with the saliva production)! And CONGRATS on book number two! Your book is already considered a vegan bible, so a second round is well deserved.

Julie January 4, 2015 at 11:29 pm

I got your book for Christmas. My original plan was to give it to my friend who’s been trying to do more vegetarian recipes. But I love it so much, I’m keeping it!
I hope it gets translated to FRENCH so I can buy her a copy. :)

Olivia - Primavera Kittchen January 5, 2015 at 6:43 am

Awesome and Congrats!!! I am so, so excited for the second cookbook, Angela! You are great and deserve all the best always ;-)

Hannah January 5, 2015 at 7:18 am

I am in total agreement with your pick of the year! I made the salad in late November and since then it’s become a staple, both for eating at home and for bringing to parties or gatherings. I’ve had so many meat-and-potatoes family members go crazy for this salad! Lately I’ve been making one on the weekends and adding beyond meat chicken so that we can eat it for lunch for a few days. Thank you!

Cassie January 5, 2015 at 8:22 am

Lindsay January 5, 2015 at 9:00 am

How long will this dressing keep in the fridge?

Fanya January 5, 2015 at 11:56 am

OMG!!! Another one of your cookbooks has been my wish for such a long time. I LOVE your recipes, not even one was ever anything but amazing! And I sell your book and website like crazy to everyone who would listen, I just love you. You inspire me! Have an amazing 2015!

Cindy January 5, 2015 at 12:18 pm

Where is the “Pre-Order NOW!” link???

Angela (Oh She Glows) January 7, 2015 at 10:32 am

Do you mean the link to buy the book?

Cindy January 7, 2015 at 11:31 am

I feel terrible that you took the time to respond given that I was being facetious; I am beyond excited with the news of your new cookbook. Your story, your efforts, your photography, your book has had a significant impact on my eating habits and my growing confidence in the kitchen. My journey started a couple of years ago with a book called Skinny Bitch. (I was already both so I was wondering who wrote my book and what it said about me.) I challenged myself to rid my every meal meat dependency. That challenge turned into a dare when my family doubted me. That dare has been strong for five years or so now. That book had me eliminating meat and dairy from meals that were prepared for me; your book got me learning about the oddest ingredients (brown rice syrup falls under that category) and excited about cooking healthy, delicious, beautiful meals. Your first cookbook is the only one open on constant display in my kitchen for inspiration. I was recently thinking that vegan may be possible for me to start in 2015. But I do eat fish. Is there a name for that? I’m going to go with veganish! Again, thank you for your response and I’m sorry for the confusion. With that comes my purchase PROMISE of at least two of your new cookbooks. ALL THE BEST in 2015!

Jen January 5, 2015 at 12:49 pm

I’m so excited about a new cookbook! Yours is a staple in my cooking and I use it nearly every day. It’s the only cookbook I’ve had where I want to make every single recipe. I have yet to find one that I hasn’t made my belly happy. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with the world. Your work has introduced me to so many new ways of cooking with vegan and gluten free foods and unleashed my creative prowess in the kitchen. Cheers to you!

Mackenzie January 5, 2015 at 4:55 pm

Even though I’ve made most of these recipes already (ummm helloooo banana bread muffin tops!!), seeing them all put together makes me want to make them all over again!!

Angela, I could not be more thrilled that you’re making a second cookbook. If I had it my way, I wish all of your recipes were compiled from your site and put into a cookbook, that’s how much I love them! Since I am already a self-deemed ‘recipe tester’ of all your recipes, I hope I can be selected as one when you pick them!!

Lisa January 5, 2015 at 5:00 pm

Can’t wait for cookbook number two!!! yay!!!!

Jessica Bourke January 5, 2015 at 8:36 pm

There isn’t a recipe on your site that I wouldn’t devour! My kids are a big fan of your healthy treats and are expanding their veggie options as a result also. Food that tastes good and makes you feel great! Thanks for putting such a huge amount of effort into your work, it doesn’t go unnoticed.

Cara January 5, 2015 at 8:47 pm

BTW, another random note … the other day I was trying to grade papers at a Panera and this group of women sat down at the next table and started talking about their weight, and how they wished they could get excited about eating healthier, but who likes kale? Except, two of the three granted, they actually HAD had good kale salads at various restaurants, but they didn’t know how to COOK it ….. this went on for too long before I realized I was going to have to find somewhere else to grade, but I couldn’t resist–I wrote down on a napkin, and as I left, I said, “I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, honest, but if you’re looking for healthy recipes … ” and gave them the napkin! They actually thanked me! LOL!

heidi January 5, 2015 at 9:44 pm

I have to give you huge kudos. I have found your first cookbook truly life changing. I have been vegetarian since I was a child but since having to go dairy and gluten free due to sensitivities, I was feeling very deprived, bored and frankly a little resentful (at the food, my digestive system, the Dr who recommended it?). I have tried about 40-50% of your recipes in the cookbook. I have found every single one of them to scrumptious, easy to follow, healthy, balanced nutrition and accessible. No poo pooing me for shortcuts, recognizing we all have full lives. The one suggestion I do have is a fabric spine for your second book. The spine in my book split apart within the first 2 mths and the pages have all fallen out.
Finally, I want to appaude you for sharing your journey with eating disorders openly, for your wisdom in sharing as you have but not giving advice where you may not be an expert and for possibly acting was role model for young women who may be struggling in a similar way. I too spent may years with an eating disorder and understand the awareness you need to have throughout the rest of your life.

jogos da frozen January 6, 2015 at 3:34 am

a second cookbook- how exciting! you are wonderwoman! cannot wait! also, all of you 2014 recipes are fabulous, especially the caeser salad ;) happy new year!

Sina January 6, 2015 at 4:08 am

Dear Angela,

nice greetings from Germany! I have been following your blog now since January 2014, when I decided to try a vegan month as a healthy start for the new year. Thanks to your “life”-story, your lovely written articles and really mouthwatering recipes I stretched my vegan month to a vegan year (I do have some cheese- and ice-cream-exceptions ;-) ) I even started my own blog in German, where I post vegan recipes. It has become a nice hobby and creative balance to my work life.
It was so much fun reading your baby-story over the past year and I am very happy for you and your family. You all look amazingly healthy!!
I have always loved cooking, but me and my fiance always enjoyed meat and dairy products. I cannot believe that I have not eaten meat in a year and I do not even miss it. My fiance (meat-lover and smoker for years) also stopped eating meat and smoking! He still eats dairy products, but I am so proud how he changed his lifestyle! Your recipes and the inspirations I got from them definitely helped :-)
I wish you a happy new year and I cant wait for more of your recipes!
Many thanks
your biggest German fan, Sina (I even bought your cookbook!)

Alex @ True Femme January 6, 2015 at 10:31 am

So excited for your next cookbook! Your cookbook is actually the only one that I use consistently and have made more than 2 things from. And all of the things I’ve made have been delicious!

Blythe January 6, 2015 at 11:25 am

I volunteer as tribute!!

Mychal January 6, 2015 at 11:36 am

I love the ones I’ve tried and look forward to trying the others!
I would love to be a recipe tester for your next cookbook, Angela!

Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork January 6, 2015 at 11:57 am

Thanks so much for posting! I love seeing these posts at the end of the year in case I missed any! Looking forward to another year of delicious food with you!

SG January 6, 2015 at 4:35 pm

This is a great recap of some of your delicious recipes. I just wanted to say thank you for a fantastic 2014, as it was the year I discovered your website! I am in the early stages of exploring a vegan diet and your blog recipes and cook book have been inspirational in discovering the possibilities that a plant based diet can offer. I hope to read more of your adventures in the coming year and wish you and your growing family all the best in 2015!

Samantha Paluck January 6, 2015 at 6:54 pm

Congrats on the new cook book! This is so exciting :-D
I just bought your first cookbook and I’m in love with it. While I’m not vegan I took up vegan cooking about a two years ago due to dairy and egg allergies in my new family. We have two weekly vegan days and all of my baking is now vegan. We’re even making your shells tonight yummm.

Can’t wait to hear about the recipe testers! Would love to apply :)

Kate January 6, 2015 at 9:19 pm

We’re not even vegan and my husband asks for the cauliflower alfredo every couple weeks! That stuff is the real deal. My sister has a serious dairy allergy and it’s nice to be able to cook for her without the food feeling “weird” like some vegan food can be. Thank you for the blog and the kitchen inspiration!

Matt January 7, 2015 at 6:38 am

Look like yummy! Love it. Happy New Year.

Michelle January 7, 2015 at 10:39 am

Congratulations on the new cookbook! I love my OSG cookbook, and I use it just about every day. I love all your recipes on your blog too, and would love to have the opportunity to be a recipe tester for you!! :)

I would also like to congratulate you for all your accomplishments in 2014, and can’t wait to see what you will accomplish in 2015!!

Stacy L January 7, 2015 at 10:40 am

This is SO exciting Angela!!! Congrats and I can’t wait to get your second cookbook! I actually just finished cooking through your entire first cookbook in 1 year and had a blast sharing the journey on Instagram with #cookbookinayear . Thanks for an awesome experience and mouth watering recipes I can’t get enough of!

Melanie January 7, 2015 at 12:06 pm

Congrats on the upcoming second book – cannot wait to purchase! Could I make a request/suggestion?

Consider a hard cover/spiral bound spine on the next book. I’ve had your first recipe book a couple months and pages are already coming loose (I use it frequently) :(

Would love to be a recipe tester!

Laura January 7, 2015 at 12:46 pm

Congratulations Angela! Your first book has a permanent spot on my little kitchen cookbook shelf and I’m so excited to see what you have in store for round two. I’m sure it’s gonna be another knockout. Happy new year to you as well :)

Rachel January 7, 2015 at 12:53 pm

I just love your recipes! Especially the kale chips. Of course they were the most popular because they are delicious!

Stephanie January 7, 2015 at 2:04 pm

Awesome congrats! I’ve made 3 things from your book just this week and have been super happy with them. Can’t wait!

Alyssa January 7, 2015 at 2:06 pm

Oh this just warms my heart. I have been harassing you on Instagram for a while now…asking if you were going to do a new book. This is the BEST news! Your first cookbook is my favorite in our house and we make recipes from it every single week. So excited for this new book and in the meantime I am excited to make some of the recipes from this post.

Thank you so much for what you do. You make it so much easier for me to be vegan and it is awesome when I can make vegan dishes that my non-vegan family love too!

Lauren January 7, 2015 at 2:19 pm

I just got your cookbook for Christmas and I am OBSESSED! Looking forward to the next one already!

Jacky Hood January 7, 2015 at 2:24 pm

Now I know what I’m doing this weekend – making all your top recipes of 2014! Great way to get out of a recipe rut. And I am SO excited to hear about a new book – can’t wait and I would LOVE to recipe test! Congrats and thank you!

Barbara Pando-Behnke January 7, 2015 at 2:37 pm

Dear Angela,

OMG I am SO excited that you are working on a 2nd cookbook! I got your first cookbook for Christmas 2014 and it has been a huge hit, and I LOVE your blog!

I would LOVE to be a recipe tester for your new cookbook. I’ll be looking out for instructions on this on your blog. I have recently dedicated myself to a vegan, nutritarian lifestyle and like you, I want to be an agent of positive change in the world. Thanks for being you! :)

Miet January 7, 2015 at 2:52 pm

Congratulations on the new book! I’m really looking forward to it – I love the first one!

Ashley | Blissful Basil January 7, 2015 at 2:52 pm

Congratulations on the second cookbook! I’m in love with your first, so I can only imagine the awesomeness of your creations the second time around. Also, this round-up is fab! Perfect way to kick off a new year.

Natalie January 7, 2015 at 3:39 pm

I bought your first book on and it’s A-M-A-Z-I-N-G-!

Teffy January 7, 2015 at 3:41 pm

What an amazing year you had!
Your cookbook is actually one of my bedside table staples, and I always flick through it when I need some bedtime inspiration as I love the food photography and recipes!

All the best to you and your gorgeous family for this new year!!

{Teffy’s Perks} X

Jennie L. January 7, 2015 at 4:11 pm

Congrats Angela! Love your first cookbook!! Made so many of the recipes and excited for some new recipes in 2015.

Debi ford January 7, 2015 at 8:41 pm

Would love to be a recipe tester!! I am probably at an advanced level and love all your recipes!!!!

Jen January 7, 2015 at 10:55 pm

I LOVE your cookbook. The best cookbook I’ve ever purchased. I bought it before Christmas and have worked my way through the 10 spice soup, the veggie burgers (twice yum), the glo bars, the tomato basil pasta (3 times delicious!), did the cauliflower soup, did the fiesta potato crips a couple of times, the yolos like 6 times, the cookie dough balls. We are mainly vegetarian now, used to be vegan and are high raw. I’m so grateful for your cookbook, blog and for the news of another. I love your recipes and think you are fantastic. Thanks for your hard work!

Taylor DuVall January 7, 2015 at 11:01 pm

This is so great! I can’t wait to try some of these delicious recipes! It’s so nice to find such an assortment of Gluten Free recipes :)

Sam ~ it doesn't taste like chicken January 8, 2015 at 7:02 pm

Congratulations Angela! From one Ontario vegan food blogger to another, you are a true inspiration! I have your first book and love it. You’re top 15 look delish, and surprisingly look very colour coordinated! haha

Sagan January 9, 2015 at 10:29 am

Love the round-up!

And super exciting about your next cookbook :)

Emily January 9, 2015 at 11:42 am

WOOHOO!! Incredible news! Can’t wait for the new cookbook!!!

Chris January 9, 2015 at 4:09 pm

In for smashed potatoes and not surprised at the dessert win, LOL.

Tana Lise January 9, 2015 at 7:29 pm

Angela’s personal recipe tester! That’s SOOO exciting! To let you know a little more about me, I am a free spirited gal from Victoria, BC, who is working on having my most shapely butt ever, haha! I’m approaching 43 with a beautiful babe who just turned 2 so I easily relate to all of your baby/family posts. :) I had a challenging and rewarding time last year loosing 15 or so pounds after several years falling in love then having our amazing child. I consider myself an Oh She Glows Ambassador, hehe and vegan recipe lover since discovering your blog and cookbook! To follow through on my love and enthusiasm for your cooking, I somehow made every recipe from your first book (and some many, many times over) in under 7.5 months. I did this undoubtedly to eat more deliciously and to share everything I made with my loving family and friends. What a joy that was, thank you! My fiancé and our little sweet-muffin both love it when I make one of your recipes – usually because I’m so happy doing it then trying to present it so beautifully and lovingly. I would welcome and love the chance to test any of your new OSG recipes, and, really, make a life connecting with others around the globe sharing OSG (perhaps we could open your OSG bakery together here)!! My mission as one of your OSG recipe testers would be to help you spread health, happiness, beautiful energy and love to the world one OSG recipe at a time. WOOHOO Angela it’s time to cook!

Denise Dysard January 9, 2015 at 11:31 pm

Yaaaayyyy!! So looking forward to its relase!

Denise Dysard January 9, 2015 at 11:32 pm

Oops…can’t type on this iPad. :)

Monica January 10, 2015 at 9:47 am

YAY!!!!! Every Saturday morning, I sit down with your recipe book and your blog and make my meal plan for the week…entirely ohsheglows!! However, I have been doing this for a long time and was literally just thinking this morning, “I hope Angela’s working on another book…I would LOVE some more amazing recipes!” I have tried other vegan cookbooks, but none of them have cut it. However, I have never made a single recipe from either your blog or book that hasn’t been a huge hit, with vegans and non-vegans alike!! I’m so excited!!!

If you’re taking suggestions…I would love a few slow cooker recipes, for those busy days! Thanks, Angela, for taking the time to keep our families healthy and happy, while becoming increasingly busy with your own!!

Susanne January 10, 2015 at 10:19 am

Congratulations on your second book, Angela. Really enjoyed the first book and can’t wait to see the next one. I would be delighted to contribute to the Oh She Glows community by being a recipe tester.

Skinny and Thick of It January 10, 2015 at 12:07 pm

Congrats on the 2nd cookbook! Looking forward to it.

Sarah January 10, 2015 at 3:52 pm

Yah! I’m so glad you’ll be making another cookbook. I love your first one! I would also love to see some crock pot meals. I have a few favorites, but I would love to see what ideas you might come up with for busy nights.

I also had a question about where you get some things. I am considering making the leap from vegetarian to vegan, but it seems like nurs can be ridiculously high and they’re such a staple in a lot of vegan recipes. Do you order them in bulk or something? Lol

Sarah January 10, 2015 at 3:53 pm

Oops. That should have said nuts. Stupid iPhone!

Athletic Avocado January 11, 2015 at 7:02 pm

All of these recipes look soooo good! Love your amazing blog! Gives me such great idea!

KT January 12, 2015 at 3:26 pm

I am looking forward to your 2nd cookbook and I would love to be a recipe tester!

Ann C. January 12, 2015 at 3:26 pm

I am really excited that you are writing another cook book! I LOVE the first one and use it all the time. My husband isn’t vegan or vegetarian but he enjoys all the dishes I’ve made from the book, I really like that! Happy cooking, happy for you and me too : )

Adam Ferguson January 12, 2015 at 4:27 pm

Angela – I got your first cookbook for Christmas this year from a family member and it’s blowing my mind! I’m new to your blog and I’m very impressed so far. I can’t wait to work through all the recipes.

The fact that you’ve got a second one coming out is amazing. Congratulations on all your success!

Katharine January 13, 2015 at 12:37 am

Yay!!! I am SO excited to hear you are working on a second cookbook!!!! I refer to your first cookbook as my “bible”!!!! I went full vegetarian / mostly vegan a few months ago and I could not have done it without your blog and book. I am forever grateful!!! I would love to be considered to test your recipes, I could provide feedback on making the recipes and my husband would be more than happy to provide thoughts re eating the spoils ;) Congrats!!!

Olivia January 13, 2015 at 1:56 pm

Such exciting news – congratulations! I would love to help out with the recipe testing!

Ashley January 15, 2015 at 3:32 pm

These all look so wonderful. I’m a personal trainer and am always looking for new healthy recipes. Can’t wait to get cooking!

Suzanne January 15, 2015 at 6:52 pm

Congratulations Angela!!! So exciting! I love all of your recipes – your first book, blog recipes – all of it! I would love to be a tester – and have a family with hungry, growing teenagers who are also good for food tasting (especially if it involves dessert!)

Enjoy another amazing year :-)

Adarsh January 16, 2015 at 6:27 am

All 14 Healthy Recipes are good and best of luck for the second CookBook.

Savs January 16, 2015 at 4:18 pm

Hi Angela. Congratulations on the second cookbook! I wonder what amazing recipes you are going to come up with for this one!!!
I thought you might be interested to know that the running ad at the top of the page was a Woolworth’s ad advertising sausages (I live in Australia). I’m sure you don’t control these ads personally but I thought it was strange that your ad provider thought that would make sense!

Angela (Oh She Glows) January 17, 2015 at 8:41 pm

Hi Savs,

Thanks so much for letting me know about the ad. I’ll get it removed asap.

Christina January 19, 2015 at 3:13 pm

Congratulations Angela!! I love your first book, and I’m sure the second will be just as amazing!

Angela @ Food Angel January 19, 2015 at 7:05 pm

I’m a newer follower and am so excited for this recipe list- they all look fantastic! Congrats on your second cookbook!!

Quinoa apparel January 20, 2015 at 11:48 am

Wow congratulations on the new book! I’m sure it will be even more amazing than the first one I can’t wait to get it! Gonna invest in a couple pair of stretchy waistband pants right now cause I know I will cook (and eat) til I burst once your book is out! Good luck!

Shayna January 20, 2015 at 2:19 pm

The ceasar is the best! I made it for someone’s birthday at work today and it was a HUGE hit. I ran out of cashews for the “cheese” and used pine nuts instead. Shared the link love all over the place.

Monique scott January 23, 2015 at 8:11 am

Can’t wait to try these amazing foods..The family will love them

Quinoa-apparel *vegan fashion* January 28, 2015 at 9:04 am

Honestly, kale chips changed my life! I don’t have to feel guilty about snacking anymore ahah, this recipe is so easy to achieve and the result is just perfection :) Kuddos!

Karli January 29, 2015 at 1:37 am

Oh wow – I’m so excited that you have another cookbook on the way! I absolutely love the first one – it truly has helped me make some healthy changes to my lifestyle/eating habits. When you can make healthy food that actually tastes good too, it’s very motivating to be healthier! My family is in love with the Ultimate Nutty Granola Clusters – I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made them! Thanks for all the fabulous recipes!

Missa February 7, 2015 at 10:09 pm

I’m so excited for a second cookbook! We’ve been vegan for just a few months, and I couldn’t have done it without your cookbook! I use it so much that I may need to buy a backup copy!

Cyndie February 11, 2015 at 8:50 pm

Yay! Can’t wait for your new cookbook. OSG is one of my favorite cookbooks!

Debbie March 3, 2015 at 8:10 am

Hi Angela,
You and your philosophy of life is truly an inspirational. Thank you for generously sharing your love of family, life and the planet. Your recipes are simple to make and absolutely delicious.
I have purchased your cookbook and enjoy experimenting with the recipes. My only suggestion for your next book is to look at the page layout. I have a difficult time reading the recipe contents, they are too close to the centre of the book and the book does not stay open. I have placed a weight at the top of the page but still find it difficult. If you could place the ingredients on the left page and instructions on the right it would be helpful. Thank you.

I don’t know which one of these sounds the best! The pasta primavera and chili are both calling my name.
Here is what some vegan bloggers say their favorite healthy recipe is. They all sound crazy tasty too :)

You are such a huge inspiration to me personally, and a lot of other people I know. Keep up the great work and thanks for all the time you devote to your passion. It is appreciated!
