Does the blog look a bit different to you this morning? I sure hope so! The design went live very late last night…it was quite the event. Eric had all sorts of problems with hundreds of images not transferring over, but they should be visible now.
Sketchie was working until 3am on issues!

If you don’t see the new design, try refreshing the page to see if that brings it up. Holding down control + F5 should work.
I want to take a moment today to give you a mini “tour” and show you some of the fun features.
1. New Menu System
As I mentioned, we re-categorized blog posts and added many new categories for easier searching! You’ll see a new menu system below the header now. I’m STILL in the process of categorizing, but the majority of it is done. Categorizing over 2,300 posts is about as mind-numbing as it sounds…luckily, I had the Olympics streaming on my computer this weekend to entertain me!
The main menu you see every time you visit the home page is shown below (highlighted in yellow):

Each of these main menu categories have sub categories. Some of the subcategories have their own subcategories via a drop down menu. We’re talking three levels of category goodness here!
For example, when you click “Recipes” a horizontal menu will open up below it, as I’ve haphazardly tried to emphasize with a squiggly yellow line.

Most of the subcategories have their own drop-down menu. So for example, if you hover over breakfast, a menu will drop down and show you further breakfast categories like smoothies, Green Monsters, vegan Overnight oats, Parfaits, Hot Oatmeal, Granola, savoury, etc.
As you can see below, you can now search for recipes by dish type as well as by allergy (gluten-free, nut-free, soy-free, oil-free, etc).

Also note, my Recipage is now found under the Recipes category in the “Recipe Index”.
When you click on a specific category, a page will come up that looks like this below and the posts will be listed in that category. Here I clicked on “Popular” –> Hovered over Reviews –> and clicked on “Restaurant Reviews”.

You can search by image view or excerpt view and you can sort by date or title (highlighted in yellow).
2. New Header
I’ve always used one of my photos for the header, but this time I wanted to try something completely new – all crafted in Photoshop. Photoshop is basically my nemesis, so this was quite a challenge for me. After banging my head on the desk several times, I’m pleased with how it turned out. I know it doesn’t overly scream “food blog”, but I like that it looks fresh and feminine. Our original plan was to hire a logo designer and then incorporate that into a new header, but we haven’t been able to find someone to do a logo yet.

3. Galleries
I made wedding and honeymoon albums (something I’ve had on my list for a couple years now). If you click on my wedding page (found under My Story –> About Angela –> Wedding), you’ll now find 4 wedding galleries (pre-ceremony, ceremony, post-ceremony, reception). I also did the same thing for our honeymoon pictures. There are now 9 separate galleries for the cities that we visited on our Mediterranean cruise. If you want to check out all of the various galleries that I’ve posted to date, you can find them on the “Galleries” page under the photography category.
4. Amazon Cart
I finally got around to creating an Amazon cart highlighting my favourite cookbooks, photography equipment, kitchen tools, and food products. You will see the Amazon widget on the sidebar of some pages (not the homepage) and the direct link can be found at the footer of the blog called “My favourite things”. Please note that I will receive a small commission on sales from the Amazon shopping cart.
5. Popular Recipes
On the right sidebar of the blog, you’ll now see a “popular recipes” section. It will randomly select 9 popular recipes. If you hover over the picture the recipe name will appear. Thanks to Eric for this fun feature!
You can also find my popular recipes under the “Popular” category in the main menu, then click –> “Recipes”.

Also on the sidebar, you will see my social media buttons with a new look. You can find my Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram pages linked here, and you can also subscribe by RSS and email.

[If you are curious as to how to design your own social media buttons, we used this tutorial. It was not easy…unless you are a whiz with Photoshop!]
6. RSS Feed – Social Media Links

You can now find links at the bottom of my RSS feed to 1) Comment, 2) Share on Facebook, 3) Tweet, 4) Pin, and 5) Stumble. If you have any problems with these links please let me know.
Well, I think that’s all for now! If you encounter any problems or have any questions, leave a comment below. We checked the blog on the following browsers: IE 7/8/9, Safari, Firefox, and Chrome, as well as the ipad. Everything appears normal on this end, but it’s possible we missed something!
A BIG thanks to Eric for all the love he put into this project!!
Awesome design! Looks very light, refreshing :) Think of how much the blog has changed, grown, evolved over the last few years! Perhaps it’s a metaphor for our lives?! Congrats to you and Eric and thanks to both of you for all your hard work. Both of you should be so proud! Oh…and Sketchie too. Looks like he lent a helping paw :)
Love the new look!!! It’s very clean and easy to navigate. Fantastic :D

Gorgeous new website design. Love the fresh new look!
I love your new blog design, it’s very clean and user friendly. I like the new widgets too. Did you and Eric design this together?
It looks great! Way to put in all of the hard work! It is going to be easier to browse the recipes now! Thanks! :)
LOVE IT!!!! Love the soft colors too!!! :)
it really looks fantastic! i love the section devoted to allergies – makes it so easy to search!
This is absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful work-well done both of you!!! I love how it is light and fresh and is so user-friendly! Can’t wait to see all of your future posts on your new layout!
I’m not necessarily good at Photoshop and blog work but for some reason, I find it thoroughly enjoyable. Anyways, it certainly is a change for your blog!. I can imagine how mind numbing it had to be to categorize everything but it really makes it easy on your readers, so thank you! The only things I don’t like (just constructive criticism, it is YOUR blog after all): I prefer your old header style. Your food photography is really great and the idea was more unique. And this is seriously picking, but I think all the border lines are annoying, maybe they could be a lighter shade of grey? Great job you two.. and Sketchie! <3
I love the new layout, it looks great! So clean and easy to navigate.. always appreciated :)
Ohh! LOVE the new layout. So organized. So amazing!!
It all looks great–and I love how much organization there now is. I have tried to make very small changes on my site before and know how much hair pulling there is involved in the process. It can drive you nuts! But the end result makes it worth it :)
I need to get my boyfriend to master web designing like Eric! Haha
It’s beautiful! I love it. Amazing work. Tell your husband thank you!
Very simple, yet very classy. Some blogs confuse me with having a lot of paraphernalia, but yours has always been easy to navigate and read. I especially like that you have a tab for allergy restrictions, as I have many! :)
The new blog looks fabulous! As someone who studied web design & management in college, I know the pain, sweat, and tears you and Eric have gone through! Job well done!! I’m viewing the website on my Android cellphone and it looks great, no issues on my native browser!
Thanks Kami, glad to hear that!
Hey Ange – it’s gorgeous! Love the new look. You guys have obviously been very busy :)
This is seriously amazing. I work with my company’s internal website a lot, so I understand all of the hard work that went into this revamp! Congrats, now you can relax and enjoy all of this awesome organization :)
I love this new design! I was doing searches in the old one just last night. Congratulations and here’s to many more recipes and many more wonderful ohsheglows updates!
I love it!! It looks so so good :)
I LOVE the new blog design…very whimsical and feminine looking!
Love the new look! But I must admit, I miss the old header! I liked how you always changed it with the seasons…
Your new layout looks wonderful! :)
yayyyy so clean and beautiful indeed! I’m loving everything about it! And it’s funny how you ALWAYS get me all mixed up when I visit your page and there’s a new design/header. :P This time was the worst mix up yet, haha!
Ww! The website looks so fancy! So organized! It looks great! I will miss your seasonal pictures on the top, but I like your new design.
Wow it looks great Ange! I can only imagine how much work this must have been – but it definitely paid off. I love how you’ve made it so easy to search! :)
LOVE the new site design! It looks great!
Great job on the site and the transfer. These types of things are always 1000x more difficult, complicated, and cause more gray hair than you’d ever think possible going into them – but you can relax now, job well done :)
Love the new layout and colors, so clean and nice!! :)
LOVE the new design!
Love the new layout!
Love the new look! All your hard work looks wonderful! Congratulations!!
My husband and I are thinking of designing a website for our business. Did you use a special program to do this? Would love to hear about how you put all of this together. Thanks!
Love the new blog design! and i hear you about photoshop o_O !!!! Its a love hate thing!
– i really love the header as you expressed it is “feminine and fresh” which interpreted is a huge reason i love you blog! have inspired women to be strong and have acceptance! I do love the one you did do of food photography .. hopefully they will make an appearance somehow?
-i love the the colours!
-i feel the “follow me on pinterest” tab should be closer to the social media buttons or underneath (right column)
-Cant wait to hear more about your book!
♥
Love it! You, Eric, and Sketchie do fine work.
This is gorgeous! I absolutely love your blog and I love the new look:)
Looks so nice! Can’t wait to explore.
I have always found your site to be user-friendly, anyway, Angela – which is amazing, really, because you have a TON of info on here to share and browse through.
The new design and format looks to make things even easier for us.
That is so appreciated – thank you and Eric for the hard work and generosity toward your readers. You are the best!
Awesome! Love it, especially the section for specialized diet needs! Thank you!
Lov-er-ly! I’m a fairly new reader and I’m really excited about the way I can now dig through your past recipes. Time for some serious cooking…
Thanks for the time and hard work it took!
LOVE the new layout! I was working the night shift last night so I had the chance to figure it out :)
OMG, Love the new design and the header is so elegant. Well done to you and Eric!
The new look is fantastic! I’m excited to take a look around at how you’ve organized the recipes now.
