Nothing like a Blendtec giveaway and 3 new smoothie recipes to kick off the weekend, right?
Happy Friday indeed!
Blendtec sent me a refurbished Blendtec Total Blender to review on the blog. I’m going to have a fun little giveaway to get your own engines revving and give this beast away to one lucky reader.
And boy, is this thing a beast!
As you may know, I purchased a Vitamix last year and I’m in love with it. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the Blendtec. My standards are pretty high when it comes to blenders, so I’m a tough cookie smoothie!
This is a refurbished machine, which means that it was slightly used but it was inspected and processed in the Blendtec factory to restore it to ‘like new’ condition. Honestly, you’d never be able to tell that this machine wasn’t brand spanking new! It is in mint condition. You can also save quite a bit of money if you purchase their refurbished models.
Plus, you get to be all eco-friendly by recycling…what’s not to love?
Here are some specs:
- You can make smoothies, fresh juice, ice cream, milkshakes, cappuccinos, margaritas, soups, sauces, bread dough, dressings, salsas and more
- The Total Blender comes with an exclusive Smart-Touch Technology which means when a cycle button is pushed, the Total Blender automatically speeds up and slows down, then shuts off when the cycle is complete.
- It turns ice to snow and actually comes with an Ice-Crushing Guarantee and has1560 Watts of blending power
- Blender includes: 32 oz. BPA free wet + dry container, Total Blender Motor Base, FourSide Pitcher, Vented Pitcher Lid, Recipe Book, Owner’s Manual, instructional CD
- It has 6 pre-programmed blend cycles (below) that are designed to produce optimum results for a range of blending tasks such as soups and sauces or whole juice. The instruction manual tells you how long each cycle goes for and it’s also displayed on the screen when blending.
- The pitcher is a wet and dry which means you don’t have to purchase another container like you do with the Vitamix.
After reading up on this bad boy, I threw a blending party and Eric and I got to be the lucky taste-testers!
Of course, the ultimate test for any blender is a Green Monster smoothie made with KALE! If you’ve ever made a smoothie with kale and it was chunky, I feel your pain. I suffered through that for a couple years before I finally bought my Vitamix beast.
After putting in my Green Monster ingredients, I hit the ‘smoothie’ button. I quickly realized that the smoothie setting (30 seconds) was probably not intended for Green Monsters because the greens didn’t pulverize enough after 30 seconds. I ended up blending for 3 smoothie cycles (1.5 minutes) instead of one.
After 1.5 minutes, it blended well and the kale was virtually smooth, but perhaps not as smooth as the Vitamix. It was a really close call, but I found the Blendtec was a tiny bit more coarse in texture as compared to my GM’s made with the Vitamix.
But again, it was so close, it’s almost a non-issue. And I’m sure many people don’t blend kale like my crazy self!
edited to add: Some of you told me to use the LIQUIFY setting for kale as it works much better! Good to know. :)
Up next, I made a few fruit smoothies and I was very pleased with the outcome.
Strawberry Cherry Basil Mango Coconut Cream Banana Data Cinnamon
These smoothies turned out I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E.
I tried another ultimate test for this beast- grinding flax. I’ve used a few blenders in the past that didn’t grind flax well, so I was anxious to test it out with the Blendtec.
Let’s just say it was PULVERIZED! Amazing job!!!
All in all, I think the Blendtec Total Blender is a great machine.
Here are some specifics that I love about it:
- Shorter height (15”) compared to Vitamix (20.5”) which means that it will fit under any counter top
- Easy to remove lid (I find the Vitamix lid is hard to put on and off)
- BPA free container
- Digital display (while not necessary, it is sleek and fun)
- No need for a Tamper stick like you need with the Vitamix. (The Tamper stick is included with a Vitamix to help push down and process ingredients. No need for this with the Blendtec)
- Contemporary & sleek design! Looks great on the counter.
- Wet + dry container all in one
Now how about some of those smoothie recipes to kick off the weekend?

Goodluck to all! Big thanks to Blendtec for this amazing opportunity!
Would love to win this blender! I want one to make better green monsters so badly! :)
oh, i need one of these so bad!
My Oster beehive actually does a pretty good job with kale. But it has begun leaking and splattering (mostly for me, right when I’ve blended the kale w/ water and before I put in the frozen stuff; doesn’t leak for my boyfriend, who is a frozen-stuff-then-liquid kind of guy), so we’re dreaming of a Cadillac blender. Hope we win!
I remember the first time I tried to make a green monster with kale in a target blender…..I had to chew it! Yuck!!! I quickly learned that I had to blend for a much longer period to get it drinkable. Haha
Green monster constitution 2nd amendment states- all citizens have the right to bear blenders.
My blender is tiny (and I mean tiny). I really would like this! Thanks for the giveaway, as always :)
I would LOVE a blendtec!! I’m pretty sure though that if you play around with the settings, you’ll be able to blend kale just as smooth as a vitamix. Afterall, if it can blend an iphone, kale shouldn’t be an issue ;)
I’m new to juicing and recently discovered your website. I’d love a new blender!! The one I have now is probably 7 years old.
Love your blog & all the great recipes. I always look to your site when I need a new recipe to make. I could really use a Blendtec for some of those yummy recipes!
Those smoothies look amazing!!! Especially the banana date cinnamon:) I make a smoothie with greens every morning and I currently use the Magic Bullet but I have heard the high power blenders are a million times better – I would love the Blendtec!
I am a new vegan and love all the recipes on your blog. My non-vegan family members also really enjoy all your recipes. Thanks for much for being such a large help on my journey!
Yum smoothies!
I would love trying out a Blendtec! Especially for that date smoothie, I’ve been wanting to incorporate dates into my smoothies lately, but they are pretty hard to blend/grind up! Thank you for the giveaway!
Please enter me! Live by your blog :)
I have a baby blender, so a Blendtec would be a HUGE step up! Now that I have just joined an organic co-op this would be perfect! :)
My nick name is actually Kale (lol). I got it while I managed a health food store in undergrad and grad school :)
Anywho, I would love love LOVE to have this blender as I currently only have my cheap blender from Walmart years ago. I make a variation on Kris Cars green smoothies, and I bet this blender would work wonders on it!
Im currently catching up on you entire blog, from the very beginning. It wonderful to get to read through you progression from where and who you were then until who you have become today! Keep up all of the positive and motivating work you do daily :)
LOVE smoothies! Being addicted to smoothies makes for many blenders, this would be so fun to have and to create with.

This is my first time posting! I love your recipes, I have been making and eating your raw no bake cookies and the chai recipe is amazing. There are so many more I want to try.
I would love to try a Blendtec. Its hard to feed smoothies to a family of 7 with a 20 yr old blender!!
I’ve wanted a vitamix for forever but I’m pretty sure I’d be just peachy with a Blentec if I were to win one. ;)
Oh man I would love to win one of these!
Those look like great smoothie recipes too! :)
i would so love one of these! I so love your blog! Food is amazing!
I would love to try out the Blendtec, please enter me into your draw! Love reading your blog…
Thanks for the delicious smoothie recipes and the opportunity to win a blendtec… testing it must have been a party in your kitchen! Fun!
The war between the Blendtec and the Vitamix reminds me a lot of the never-ending war between Cuisinart and KitchenAid food processors. I want them all, damn it!
All look great! My blender does not blend so smoothly!
This baby is a gem! And I will be trying all of your smoothie recipes soon…very soon!
Those smoothies look amazing! Wish I could make them at home :-)
I am in desperate need of a blender! I moved and left my old, crappy one at home hoping that I would eventually get a new one but funds have been tight! Bring back my smoothies Angela! :)
yuuum, great smoothie recipes! I’ve been saving up for a vitamix for about a year now, but this Blendtec looks like it might take the lead!
This looks amazing – I was at a food exhibition today where the Vitamix was on display, and after realising I could not in the foreseeable future afford one, I was intent on finding another brand to do a great job – you have done my homework for me ! Looks fantastic !
Love your blog!!! I hope I win!!!!
This sounds wonderful–hope I win!
Wow! I love the design of this blender so much! And the results I get(chunky mess) with my blender are nothing compared to this. Hmmm I think I really should invest in a new blender. The thing is that I don’t have money for this. Anybody recommends a GREAT but non expensive/cheap blender?
Awesome blender and the smoothies… well they look soooo yummy I am going to try them…
great post on the blendtec. i liken the healthy competition of blendtec vs vitamix to coke vs pepsi where respective champions swear by their preferred machine and loyalty is unwavering! in any case, any battle promoting health and wellness (unlike coke & pepsi), is one worth waging.
Gasp, I hope I am not too late, this is too fateful! The loyal little hand blender that I inherited from gram years ago is drawing its last breaths. But I’m sure a Blendtec would sure do wonders on cheering me up during this grave period of mourning, tehe ;)
I’ve been drinking green monster smoothies each morning, but am sick of having to chop the greens first, or stop and mix multiple times, so would LOVE the blendtec!!!
I’ve never had a blender that can handle spinach! I’d love to try!
They look delicious!! Would love to have a blender like that to make delicious smoothies & soups! ..But unfortunately money is tight :\
Love your blog btw :) keep up the great work!
much love xxx
would love this blender! i just moved to my first new apartment and it’d fit perfectly!
Hope I am not to late to enter!!!! I love smoothies, and am in desperate need of a blender!!!!!
Marx was right, a blender is the opiate of the masses.
I’d LOVE a new blender, mine is older than me and is missing a top! Someday soon I’m going to have green monster all over my ceiling, it’s inevitable…
hey! i love your blog!! i am a second year college student and got hooked on smoothies this summer. i bought a cheap small blender to bring with me but its struggling to keep up!
You were the one who inspired me to make my first green Smoothie ever! Love your site, your recipes and your fun personality! Looking forward to reading and trying more recipes! Much love!
