Foodie Pack Rat

by Angela (Oh She Glows) on August 18, 2010

That is what Eric called me when he saw the huge bag of food I am bringing home!

We have had such a great getaway to Chicago. Eric says that it was the first time in a long time that he has truly disconnected from work- no cell, no email, no pager. He said it was such a nice rest! I am happy for him because he has been working like crazy lately. I am trying not to think about the 350 Glo Bars that I have in cue for me when I get home! It is going to be a crazy Thursday + Friday and then we hit the road again to visit family for the weekend.

Sooooooooo, what souvenirs does a food, baking, and cooking obsessed gal bring home from a great city like Chicago? Let us take a gander…

Have you ever tried any of these foods??? :)

20100817-IMG_6903 20100817-IMG_6904

I’m very excited to try this White Chocolate Wonderful peanut butter!!!!

I bought the Amazing Grass sample from Whole Foods and I am going to use it on the plane today to mix in with my water.

And this Himalayan Sea Salt on the far right that I have heard so much about!

Also VERY excited to try these TJ’s dried banana slices! I heard they are amazing spread with nut butter. :)

I noticed that the prices in the Chicago Whole Foods were so much cheaper than the Whole Foods in Oakville and Toronto!! Just for example, the Artisana Coconut Butter was $6 cheaper in the Chicago Whole Foods than in Oakville/Toronto. Crazy!! I was going to buy one, but Eric reminded me that my suitcase was already pretty heavy from the other food. :(

Food kill. :(

I also got this super cute twig spoon + knife set from Anthropologie.

Vegan overnight oats here we come!!!!

Back to last night!

Shortly after hitting publish, I crashed on the bed and Eric and I slept for a solid 45 minutes. I am not a napper by any means so when I do crash, I know I really need it. I felt so much better when I got up!

We headed out for a late dinner around 8pm.

On our way, we came across the set for the next Transformer’s movie!!!

The Transformer’s crew member shattered the dream of a 6 year old in a 28 year old’s body. He saw Eric going to touch the fake cement and he said ‘come on man’ and just shook his head in disappointment.  I giggled profusely and made fun of Eric for getting in trouble. He was crushed to say the least.

For dinner, we were not up for anything crazy so we went to the closest and easiest place by our hotel- Argo Tea! We love this place. Eric and I are both total tea lovers so it is a match made in heaven.

I tried the Hibiscus tea this time and it was delicious!

I had the chickpea salad for the second time and it was still as awesome as I remembered it. ;)

Eric had chicken and basil, tomato, and mozza sandwiches that he adores.

We are very impressed with Argo Tea. Everything is well done from the healthy food options to the creative and unique teas that are offered. The atmosphere is also wonderful, spacious, and cozy complete with desks for laptops!

Argo Tea would do WONDERFULLY in Toronto!! Right now it is only in Chicago and New York, I believe.

Then we went to the lakeshore to get some pictures.

Beautiful cityscape at night. :)

This morning we decided to go on a run-bike outing along lakeshore!

We split an Empower Glo Bar (from the swag bag!) and an orange for pre-exercise fuel. :)

Empower is one of my favourite flavours so I was very excited to eat it finally!

Along with a conference orange..

20100817-IMG_6914 20100817-IMG_6915

And some Herbal lemon verbana geranium herbal water (also from the swag bag!). It was wonderful! Very herbal tasting. No added sugars or artificial ingredients.

Then we set off for a 4 mile run along Lakeshore around 8am. It was gorgeous outside…nice and cool!

Eric rented a bike!!!!!

He was NOT impressed with the basket on the front! Oh my gosh we laughed so hard. He kept making me giggle on the run with his antics.

One last trip down the gorgeous lakefront path! So sad to leave it.

Bye bye Chicago, it was a wonderful vacation! :)

We did 4 miles in 35 minutes. We are heading out to breakfast now and then packing up and hitting the airport. I will see you tonight! :)

Flattened bananas are my crack. Just sweet enough that I don’t miss the muffins that will make me sick. :-) Enjoy them!

Lindsay @cookveganlover August 18, 2010 at 10:05 am

loved smooshed banana! suggestion: take a piece and top with nutbutter and roll up- so good!

Jessica @ How Sweet August 18, 2010 at 10:05 am

I hope you love the White Chocolate Wonderful! I am addicted.

Lauren August 18, 2010 at 1:39 pm

I second that. The stuff is soooo tasty. :)

Chelsea August 18, 2010 at 2:20 pm

Third-ed! All of their stuff is delicious!

QueenofFitness August 18, 2010 at 5:06 pm

i will fourth that!!! i could that entire jar in one sitting. the chocolate dreams is also to die for! it is hands down the best chocolate vegan PB. if you look at the back of the jar there is a blip about the cafe in NYC. been there. sandwiches are pricey but delish. i had to buy a 6 pack of PB on my visit. when i get jars of this i have to hide them from myself. the maple PB is good too but i will take choco-late anyday.

Tricia August 18, 2010 at 7:31 pm

I fifth that! That stuff is AWESOME! I agree that the Chocolate Dreams is even BETTER, so if you can get your hands on that -definitely get some. Oh and I LOVE Justin’s PB too. Good finds! Your trip looked so fun!

Heather (Heather's Dish) August 18, 2010 at 10:06 am

we have those rental bikes in denver and they’re so much fun! i would love to try sunflower butter…holy delicious!

Anna @ newlywed, newly veg August 18, 2010 at 10:07 am

Your Chicago trip looks like it’s been such a blast!!! So glad you enjoyed the city! Ps–I love those go raw chips and ‘cookies’– very tasty!

Freya @ Brit Chick Runs August 18, 2010 at 10:08 am

OOooh I tried the WCW peanut butter as soon as I got home – it’s lovely!!
Hehe, you sure did like Argo Tea! That place was so good..I don’t even like tea, but their pom tea was the best :D
Annnd I’m so jealous, it looks so much cooler in Chicago now – where’s the sun gone!?
Have a good last day :)

Abby August 18, 2010 at 10:09 am

I just watched the second transformers last night!!! I am SO jealous you got to see the set.

Last time I was in Chicago, I saw the set of Nicholas Cage’s “Weather Man”. That was 6 years ago!

Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday August 18, 2010 at 10:13 am

How much does it cost to rent a bike?

Sana August 18, 2010 at 1:54 pm

I think it was $10/ hour or something?

Callie August 18, 2010 at 10:14 am

Sounds like so much fun. :)
I’d love to ride one of those rental bikes one day. haha.
Have a nice last day.

Jessica August 18, 2010 at 10:17 am

Trader Joe’s flattened bananas are addictive! I have a hard time not eating the whole thing in one sitting!

Mary @ Bites and Bliss August 18, 2010 at 10:18 am

White Chocolate Wonderful and Sunflower seed butter!!! Nomnomnom :) Love those two.

And seeing a movie set must have been AWESOME! Although at first glance I thought you came across a horrific wreck until I noticed the caption. Had me scared there for a second. :P

Wei-Wei August 18, 2010 at 10:21 am

SO MUCH FOOD! I’m jumping in my seat looking at you talk about White Chocolate Wonderful. It sounds… WONDERFUL!

Lea @ Healthy Coconut August 18, 2010 at 10:22 am

Your pictures captured Chicago so well. I want to go back very badly now. I love Chi-town. Last time I went, those rental bikes were not available or we didn’t see them. I definitely would have rented one.

Mallory @ Little Miss Locavore August 18, 2010 at 10:22 am

As someone who discovered trader joes just in the last year, I am totally in love. They have a great nut and dried fruit section and lots of organic choices throughout the store. My only gripe is all the packaging on the produce, but I’m getting produce from the farmer’s market now so oh well. Where is the White Chocolate Wonderful from? Trader Joe’s?

Maria @ Oh Healthy Day August 18, 2010 at 10:23 am

Oh the Just Mango is pure heaven. I usually have to hide it from myself, because I can’t stop at one piece. Eric and the bike: hilarious.

Rachel August 18, 2010 at 10:26 am

Hi Angela!

I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of months now and I really enjoy it!

There is a brand of sunflower seed butter called Sunbutter and I am their #1 consumer. They haven’t declared me as such, but I’m pretty sure I’m up there. It’s so delicious and I prefer it to peanut butter.

Peanut Butter & Co. products taste great, but I stopped eating them because of the Palm Oil content (saturated fat). I’ve read that the healthiest nut butter products for you are those that you have to stir, and so I’ve been following that rule.

AdrienneCarolyn August 18, 2010 at 10:26 am

You can buy all the Peanut Butter & Co products at Whole Foods in Toronto….I’m sorry to say that I thought the White Chocolate Wonderful was way too sweet :-(
I suppose it’s still good in small doses though, or to make banana soft serve yum! I like the dark chocolate one better :-)

I’m a huge fan of different sea salts. I get pink himalayan (so pretty) and other cool salts at Noah’s in Toronto or any of those over-priced gourmet shops!

I want to go to Chicago now so badly!!!

Heather ODonnell August 18, 2010 at 10:27 am

White chocolate peanut butter is the best thing in the world!! I buy it whenever I can find it and I usually have to hide it from myself or else I would lock myself in a closet with the jar and a spoon.

I dehydrate my own bananas and mangoes. The bananas I sometimes use as spoons in the peanut butter. (don’t judge me) :-)

Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' August 18, 2010 at 10:29 am

I’ve never noticed those flattened bananas at Trader Joe’s! I’m going to have to look for them next time! My suitcase looks the same way after a good “foodie” trip– it’s almost embarrassing how much stuff I try to squeeze home after a trip to NYC! :D

Glad you guys had a fun vacation!!

Bridget August 18, 2010 at 10:29 am

I almost bought some of the white chocolate wonderful pb last week, but didn’t because I had a feeling I would get too addicted. Me + nut butters = dangerous!!! haha

I’m so glad you guys had a nice time in Chicago :) In spite of all the pizza, there are so many healthy food options there!

[email protected] August 18, 2010 at 10:29 am

Wow. I’m really sad that y’all are leaving Chicago. I’ve loved seeing all of the beautiful places you’ve discovered. Can you please stay? K. Thanks. ;)

Lauren August 18, 2010 at 10:30 am

You guys got to do the best stuff on this trip! Like seriously, the Transformers set?!? Can’t believe they wouldn’t even let Eric touch it.

Robin August 18, 2010 at 10:31 am

Those pictures are gorgeous!!! Wow. You must have had an awesome trip and definitely a great run in a city so beautiful.

I haven’t tried any of that TJ stuff. I might have to stop by after work to get some mango slices ;)

Erika @ Health and Happiness in LA August 18, 2010 at 10:33 am

I’ve gotta say I don’t think I’ve tried any of those foods! But it looks like a really good stash.

And the Transformers set looks really cool! Glad you guys got to see it.

Amber K August 18, 2010 at 10:34 am

I wasn’t a fan of the white chocolate peanut butter, it was sickeningly sweet to me. Soo weird, since I have the BIGGEST sweet tooth. I’m addicted to their dark chocolate peanut butter though. The best thing to add to smoothies or even just straight from the jar. YUM!

Holly @ couchpotatoathlete August 18, 2010 at 10:35 am

What beautiful skies! Your mini vacation looked just perfect.

I have not tried those flattened bananas from TJ’s, but I’ll have to pick some up. I love the white choc PB. It is so good!

Maria August 18, 2010 at 10:36 am

I was JUST thinking about that chocolate bar yesterday and how much I want one! Now I definitely need to make a trip to Trader Joe’s, it’s so worth it!

Kristy August 18, 2010 at 10:37 am

Beautiful pics, looks like you had a great time in the city. I’ve never seen those banana slices at trader joes, going to have to check them out next time!! Thanks for sharing!

Ashley M. [at] (never home)maker August 18, 2010 at 10:37 am

That bike rental thing is really cool! I’ve never quite seen anything like it. And I like your foodie loot. Looks like a lot of tasty stuff. Glad you had such a blast in Chicago!

Jamie J. August 18, 2010 at 10:37 am

I just recently started reading your blog and thought I would post this for you.

I noticed that you bought some of the Justins PB. I have found a website that sells these individual packets for cheap. They have a few flavors. Here is the website.

That website has some awesome individual sized items for a great price. I think if you spend more than $20 you get free shipping too.

Rhea (Greek Feaster) August 18, 2010 at 10:38 am

Hey Angela! Looks like you guys had a great time. Eric is so cute with the little bike basket!!
I have tried a lot of those foods, including the TJ’s chocolate bar (very, very tasty), mango (one of my staples!), Justin’s Chocolate PB, Teavana tea (what kind did you get?) White Chocolate Wonderful (overhyper, IMHO- it just tasted like sweet PB to me). I have had other Vosges bars, but not the Creole flava. They make an incredible wasabi sesame bar!

Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman August 18, 2010 at 10:41 am

I tried that Trader Joe’s chocolate and I was not impressed. It was almost waxy. Oh, and love the spoons from Anthropologie. I love that store. I think if I could ever get trapped overnight in a store, like they do in the movies, I’d pick there.

Rachael @ Mrs-Adventure August 18, 2010 at 10:42 am

Wow seeing all your goodies makes me excited to go grocery shopping this Friday… its funny I’ve become such a health foodie that I get excited to find a new kind of nutzzo or yummy mango slices!

Emily @ Run Emily Run August 18, 2010 at 10:43 am

I used to stash a reusable grocery bag in my suitcase whenever I traveled because I knew I’d end up bringing a whole bunch of food home with me, but now that I live in NY it’s harder to justify because I know I can get pretty much anything I want here. I still end up shoving a few things in my bags usually, though! Also I’ve been meaning to try Argo. We just got one near my work.

Elli @ 16 and Losing It August 18, 2010 at 10:43 am

So much food! It all looks delicious! And those pictures form your run are gorgeous!

Kristina August 18, 2010 at 10:47 am

Oakville Whole Foods always has the White Chocolate Wonderful PB. For a yummy dessert, I spread it on a ww wrap, nuke it for 25 seconds, then wrap it around a banana. Also a good pre-run snack!

Hayley August 18, 2010 at 10:50 am

I have a friend who was in Chicago this summer doing an internship. He also visited the Transformers set and managed to snag a few pictures with some of the actors. Looks like you had a great last day in Chi-town!

sarah August 18, 2010 at 10:52 am

I wish they would get Trader Joe’s in Canada. I’m so jealous of all the yummy and cheaper food you can get in the states!

i totally want to go to Chicago now :)

anneliese August 18, 2010 at 10:53 am

I love your blog! It is a hidden gem! Your trip to Chciago came at such a great time for me because the hubs and I are headed there this fall. I now have a secret stash of local eateries which is heaven for me!

I love the TJ bananas as well as all the GoRaw products. Not a fan of the justin’s butters because of the palm oil in it. I either grind my own nuts or buy a pure nut butter with no added ingredients. I found pink himalayan salt at TJ’s but my husband wouldn’t approve of the purchase because it was produced in Africa. Let me know how it is….

Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter August 18, 2010 at 10:54 am

What a cool vacation! I love that you got to see the transformers set! Have a safe flight Angela :)

Christina August 18, 2010 at 11:06 am

Oh gosh, I love the Chicago lakefront, great photos! And isn’t Anthro awesome? I love the set you found!

Alison (Fueling for Fitness) August 18, 2010 at 11:08 am

I bought those dried bananas from TJ’s during my trip to NYC last month – I love them but I hadn’t even thought of eating them with nut butter — I can’t wait to try that combo!!! :D

I also love the PB & Co peanut butter. I’m curious to know you like the white chocolate! I’ve only tried the Dark Chocolate Dreams one so far and it’s heavenly so I’m sure the White Chocolate one won’t disappoint! :)

Have a safe trip back!

Faith August 18, 2010 at 11:14 am

Gorgeous pictures!

Mac August 18, 2010 at 11:16 am

I have had dried mangos (not that brand) and they are the MOST wonderful food event EVER! The sad part is, they don’t last very long :(

Faith @ lovelyascharged August 18, 2010 at 11:19 am

Oh man I wish we had rental bikes here – that would be so much fun! How cool is it that you got to see the Transformers set!!! I’d probably have tried to touch it too ;)

Heather August 18, 2010 at 11:20 am

I love the White Chocolate Wonderful. I have some of that on a Thomas’s Mini Whole Wheat Bagel in the mornings and it tastes SO good! It is VERY sweet though!

Heather (Where's the Beach) August 18, 2010 at 11:21 am

I have been afraid to try the White Chocolate Wonderful for fear of being addicted to it! Sounds like you had a fantastic trip.

Andrea August 18, 2010 at 11:21 am

Oh my word….white chocolate wonderful is seriously the best thing ever. I finished 1 jar in like 3 or 4 days…not good! You will love it!

Lauren August 18, 2010 at 11:24 am

The White Chocolate Wonderful is to die for! WAit until you try it! ;)

CathyK August 18, 2010 at 11:26 am

so glad you both enjoyed a fab vacation and return back home refreshed and ready to go!
love your stash of products to bring home!
have to say, i was sooo disappointed with the peanut butter and co. products…i found both the WCW and the chocolate way too sweet and wasn’t that impressed with the ingredients list when i read it over carefully. will be interested to see what you think after you try it!
welcome back to canada!!!

Mandy A August 18, 2010 at 11:27 am

The White Chocolate Wonderful is one of my MUST HAVES in my pantry! I LOVE it! I hope you do, too!

I have tried a good majority of what you have there… you picked up some amazing stuff!

Your pictures are gorgeous! So glad you both had a great trip!

Shanna, like Banana August 18, 2010 at 11:27 am

Bringing food home is the gift that keeps giving!

And if it’s from TJs, I’ve probablye eaten it ;)

Lisa August 18, 2010 at 11:28 am

That scene would be disturbing to see if you didn’t know they were filming a movie!!

Jenny August 18, 2010 at 11:30 am

So glad you enjoyed Chicago… and managed to go home with a nice stash of good grub. ;) Can’t you buy the White Chocolate Wonderful Peanut Butter in Toronto though? You can get it from Whole Foods stores on the West Coast… Guess they’re all different though!

Welcome back to Canada! :)

alexe @ August 18, 2010 at 11:34 am

I’m the same, I always bring back food from everywhere I go! I spent 4 weeks in Italy going into every grocery stores I walked by… I love discovering new food!

Callie @ Callieflower Kitchen August 18, 2010 at 11:47 am

The TJs dried fruit is seriously to die for!! I’m so sad I didn’t stock up more :( I’m not sure why we need extra sugar in all our dried fruit here, but it’s terrible.

Also, all of the Peanut Butter & Co flavours are available at the WF in Yorkville too, just in case you wanted to grab some closer to home :)

Camille August 18, 2010 at 11:47 am

Poor Eric! Why would they deny a man-child his dreams? So sad :(

Jolene ( August 18, 2010 at 11:47 am

I have had the White Chocolate Wonderful PB … they actually sell all of the flavours in Saskatchewan, believe it or not!!!! I also went to the PB&Co. Store/ Restaurant when I was in NY, and it was pretty cool :-)

I have also had the Amazing Grass, and the Justin’s Nut Butter.

Stacey @ The Habit of Healthy August 18, 2010 at 11:51 am

Wow, what a haul of tasty food!! I am lusting after that White Chocolate Wonderful peanut butter – drool!!

So cool that you saw a real life movie set.

Taryn August 18, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Couldn’t help but notice your Teavana pouch… that flavor you have (Samurai Chai Mate) is out of this world! At my local Teavana this weekend they had a special blend of that and the White Ayurvedic Chai. Verdict? Probably the best tea I’ve ever had the pleasure of consuming.

Anyway, enjoy! :D

Nicci August 18, 2010 at 12:03 pm

We don’t have TJ’s in Texas but I had to stay away in Chicago, no room in the suitcase. I’ve had te dried fruit and it’s great. I just had the Empower Glo Bar this morning…loved every bite!

Maria August 18, 2010 at 12:06 pm

Wow the white chocolate PB looks amazing! I have the dark chocolate dreams and if that is anything to go by then it will bewonderful! I am a sucker for pb and white choc together.
Looks like you had a fab time

Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat August 18, 2010 at 12:10 pm

I’m really curious about those flattened bananas. I saw them on Callie’s blog too and they look so cool! Are they dried and crispy, or chewy? When I went to Pennsylvania in Feb we made several trips at Wal Mart and I came back with TONS of stuff we can’t get here (I can’t imagine what would have happened if we were anywhere near a TJs!!)

Kacy August 18, 2010 at 12:12 pm

Have a safe trip home! Glad you had such a good trip and found so many goodies :)

Ang! Those pictures along the waterfront are beautiful! I would defiantly get some of those framed! I just love your passion for food! You can tell that you are like a kid in a candy shop when you get around a shopping market! It’s good to be passionate!

You have been one of the big inspirations for me in going vegan. I was a vegetarian for years, but couldn’t seem to kick yogurt or cheese. I’m 30 days “clean” and I’ve never felt better!

Red August 18, 2010 at 12:14 pm

White Chocolate Wonderful! Like the inside of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup! It may not have the best ingredient list, but I just don’t eat it everyday! Moderation! (If you can)

Jess August 18, 2010 at 12:17 pm

Hey Angela,
Not sure if you know this, but you can also but the White Chocolate Wonderful PB (and Dark Chocolate Dreams) at Longo’s in the GTA.

Vegyogini August 18, 2010 at 12:20 pm

I’ve tried 1/2 of the products you’re bringing home! Trader Joe’s is my primary grocery store and I’ve had all of the items you purchased there. Their dried fruit is really high quality and I love that they offer unsweetened and unsulphured varieties. Other than your TJ’s purchases, I’ve had the Go Raw snacks, which I LOVE, and the Justin’s nut butter. I haven’t tried the Vosges varieties you bought, but I have had other varieties and they are delicious! Enjoy your bounty and have a safe trip home!

Lisa August 18, 2010 at 12:21 pm

Trader Joe’s dried fruit is THE BEST! I have never had better dried applies from anywhere. Also that sunflower butter is great-I need to go buy some right now. I love how you and Eric run/bike togther, I would love to do that with someone so I wouldn’t have to force them to run for as long as I want to.

It was so great meeting you at HLS!!! Meeting you at the cocktail party was actually one of the most memorable parts of my weekend because you were SO NICE and personable (not that I didn’t think you would be!)! I love your Glo Bars! I had the Empower bar and it was really yummy! There was some plotting amongst us Charlotte bloggers of maybe ordering a case together sometime soon :) Have a safe trip back home and glad you and Eric had a good time!

Thanks for taking us along on your trip to Chicago. It’s one city I’ve always wanted to visit. Have a safe trip north.

I LOVE the whote chocolate peanut butter. I am completely addicted to it. You’ll love it!

Morgan @ Life After Bagels August 18, 2010 at 1:38 pm

jealous jealous jealous jealous . . . one more . . . jealous . . . of your food haul!

and further more, I believe that some very lucky housekeeping staff found an Empower Glo Bar in room 864 and is now eating it, because I cannot find the one from the swag bag, I blame Brad because I swear I gave it to him to put in his backpack for the plane ride . . . booooooooo

actually you know what, Brad probably ran into the bathroom so he could eat the whole thing for himself and then hide the evidence while I was packing to go home

Sana August 18, 2010 at 1:55 pm

Aww poor Eric!!! I hope you have a safe trip home!

Valerie August 18, 2010 at 2:01 pm

The flattened bananas look/sound delicious! Some of the dark chocolates look like the stuff my dad picks up, but I don’t know for sure. My friends LOVE Teavana, so I’m sure whatever you got is good :) Love the twig spoon and knife set. Never been to Anthropologie but I’ve heard they have some great things… will definitely invest when I move off campus next year!

That’s so cool that you saw the set of Transformers! Too funny about Eric. Glad you had such a fun trip!

Heather @ Get Healthy with Heather August 18, 2010 at 2:16 pm

Rockin stash of goodiies! I haven’t tried that nut butter but want to badly.

Anne August 18, 2010 at 2:55 pm

I’ve tried a couple of those foods on my trips to the states. Amazing grass saved my immune system in California for sure, and justin’s squeeze packs are awesome!

As for the pb&co and tj’s nut butters, you need’nt have added all that extra weight to your suitcase! Several stores in the GTA have pb&co (off the top of my head, Noah’s, but also some metros in the natural & organic sections). As for TJ’s nut butters, I know a lot of them are the same as Bulk Barn. If you look on the label, you’ll see that a lot of the TJ’s nut butters are produced in Canada!

Gorgeous photos of Chicago! And LOL – I would have wanted to touch something from the Transformers set, too. It’s so neat that you guys were able to get so close.

Watch out for that White Chocolate Wonderful peanut butter… it’s severely addictive!

Ohmygoodness Teavana…I have that exact bag in my cupboard right now. It is TO DIE FOR, hot or iced. Yum yum yum. So glad you had a wonderful time here in Chicago – wish we’d had a chance to meet at HLS, but there is always next year. :)

Erika @ Food, Fitness, & Fun August 18, 2010 at 3:10 pm

Look at all those delicious souvineers! I wanna go to Chicago – the TJs near me is so tiny it doesn’t carry half the stuff I see people in blogworld talk about! :-?

Hillary August 18, 2010 at 3:13 pm

sassy molassy August 18, 2010 at 3:19 pm

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine August 18, 2010 at 3:31 pm

Looks like a wonderful way to end your trip- the Transformer’s set looks so cool!! I haven’t heard of Argo Tea, but I can’t wait to check it out once I’m back in the city this year. Have a safe trip home!

Jen August 18, 2010 at 3:51 pm

That peanut butter is amazing. It comes from a Peanut Butter little cafe in New York, Peanut Butter & co:

Maria @ Kale and Cupcakes August 18, 2010 at 3:52 pm

I know you know this, but you’re in this month’s VegNews magazine!! I was so excited to see your name (page 41).

Alycia [Fit n Fresh] August 18, 2010 at 4:59 pm

Seriously you are really making me miss Chicago! I need to go back like STAT!! Can’t we just have an HLS every month? Pleaseeeee?

Bee August 18, 2010 at 5:10 pm

White Chocolate Wonderful is the best peanut butter I’ve ever tasted! I’m from Ontario and I can purchase it at a local specialty grocery store. It’s delicious! Unfortunately, the store is experimenting with other flavours like cinnamon raisin and crunchy, so no white chocolate wonderful. :(

katrina m August 18, 2010 at 5:11 pm

wow, so i’ve been to chicago numerous times (live in wisconsin) and you make it look SO PRETTY! haha :) i’m glad you guys had such a great trip!! safe travels home!

Laura August 18, 2010 at 5:12 pm

I love the white choc. PB!!

Random question – ever go to David’s Tea in Toronto? We have one in Moncton too, and I love it! They just came out with a new Sencha collection – pricey, but I want to try all of them!!

Lisa (bakebikeblog) August 18, 2010 at 5:13 pm

haha I love that bike with the basket!! TOO FUNNY :)

Wendy @ Seriously Sassy August 18, 2010 at 5:16 pm

Looooove the TJs super dark chocolate!! Mmmmmmmm!
That uis some serious food loot. Awesome!
Glad you guys enjoyed Chi. I live in a suburb of it and we love our city!

Leah @ Why Deprive? August 18, 2010 at 5:40 pm

Isnt Trader Joe’s awesome!! I have yet to buy something there that I didnt love.

Im always amazed by how much better the prices are in the states. I mean, I got a GOOD bottle of wine for $5.99, and it wasnt even the cheapest bottle there. So not fair!

Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin August 18, 2010 at 5:46 pm

Haha if I went to the US, I would be bringing back at least that much stuff too! It sucks how everything is more expensive in Canada. But I found the Artisana Coconut Butter for only $10 at a health food store in Kensington Market!! I unfortunately don’t remember the name, but it’s on Augusta right across from Baldwin St. :)

Molly @ MollyRunsFresh August 18, 2010 at 6:34 pm

I love, love, love reading your blog. You and Eric always seem to be on an adventure whether it’s traveling or out on a bike/run! Your goodies look scrum-diddly-umptious. I’m so jealous of bloggers who have Whole Foods near them!!

amanda (tomboy that wears makeup) August 18, 2010 at 7:06 pm

Great pics yet again!! You are such a light!!

Mimi August 18, 2010 at 7:13 pm

A couple of my friends saw Shia LeBouf filming the Transformers movie in Chicago. It’s so cool that the set is around for just anyone to see (even if you can’t touch it)!

Molly August 18, 2010 at 7:34 pm

You will absolutely LOVE the white chocolate wonderful peanut butter. I could literally just eat spoonfuls of it it is so delicous. Looks like you had such a great time in chicago!

Diana @ frontyardfoodie August 18, 2010 at 7:56 pm

Aww! How fun!

I’m a foodie pack rat too. I don’t know why but I can’t help getting the cool looking foods!

Jeanne August 18, 2010 at 8:34 pm

The flattened bananas are great in oatmeal (never had them in ONO but suspect they’ll be great in that too). Also the sunflower seed butter, chocolate and Amazing greens. Surprisingly, my favorite of the three is the sunflower seed butter! Enjoy your treasures!

Veronique @ Hooked on Health August 19, 2010 at 8:53 am

It looks like you had a great trip! This makes me super jealous of the availability of specialty foods compared to over here in Ottawa :(…. There is nothing close to what Chicago has to offer. There is the Farmer’s market which is great, but there are barely any specialty cafés and restaurants that focus on healthy, organic foods. I must visit Chicago one day :)
Thanks for sharing all the lovely things that the windy city has to offer!

Summer @ Simple Healthy Real August 19, 2010 at 4:20 pm

I just found Trader Joe’s Just Mango too. Love, love, love!!!

Rachel August 20, 2010 at 6:47 pm

I impulse bought the White Chocolate Wonderful after running across some in Sobey’s the other day. Loved the first few bites, but it was awfully sweet! I don’t eat any nut butters with sugar in them, so I think it was a bit of a shock. :) I bought some of their maple peanut butter when I was at the Peanut Butter & Co store in NYC and it was tasty. Too easy to eat, though!

Kath August 22, 2010 at 8:54 pm

OMG, I thought that Transformers set was REAL at first!!

Gorgeous sky shots :)

Rita August 23, 2010 at 3:07 pm
