It’s been one of those ‘I’d climb Mount Everest in stilettos to get my chocolate fix’ kinda weeks…’ (In case yesterday’s post wasn’t clear…)

Only a woman would understand this desperate need for CHAAAA-COOOO-LATE.

Tall, Dark, And Handsome… Hawt Cocoa
Unlike the male variety, this form of tall, dark, and handsome is guaranteed not to disappoint. I adapted the ‘hot coco-cocoa’ recipe from Eat Drink & Be Vegan. This is hands down the best cocoa I have ever had. Ever. In eternity.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup coconut milk (full strength, not light!)
- 3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any milk)
- 1/4 cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder (I used regular cocoa)
- Pinch of sea salt to bring out the sweetness
- 3 tablespoons of maple syrup (or agave but I like maple syrup)
- marshmallows and cacao nibs/chocolate chips to garnish
Directions: Throw all ingredients into a pot and whisk like crazy. Bring to a boil and then simmer on low for several minutes while whisking to remove clumps. Try not to burn your tongue like I did while taste testing. :) Pour into a 1 or 2 mugs and top with marshmallows and chips. Enjoy with a spoon to make it last longer.
Serves two (or one female that would bulldoze anything in her path to get it)

Best tasting hot cocoa in the world. I don’t joke about this kind of thing.
It was luxurious, decadent, and totally necessary.

Eric suggested that we make this again on Valentine’s Day. Just imagine snuggling with a blanket, sipping on some hot cocoa, and watching a movie. Amazing, no?? It would be equally fun for a girl’s night too. Have a bunch of friends over and make a huge pot of this stuff!
Are you a chocoholic?
Will you be making anything on Valentine’s Day?

I have this theory that chocolate slows down the aging process…. It may not be true, but do I dare take the chance?

Life without chocolate would be pointless! Big up for the recipes Angela!
xxxxx
Argh, I wish I still live in Canada JUST so I could order Glo bars! I can’t wait until I’m back :-)
That hot cocoa looks so decadent. I love that you used full-fat coconut milk too. Plus your spoon pictures are seriously steady! How do you do that? Mine always get blurry, ha ha.
Gahhhh – Just my luck! Ordered 2 days too early :-(
Ummm yah. I’m excited in my pants reading about that hot chocolate! ;)
I didn’t know making hot cocoa was that easy! Where’d you get the vegan marshmallows?
And yes, I’d def. consider myself a choco-holic :)
They are called Dandies :) roast amazing
Hi Ang,
Where do you buy them?
they are on well.ca but go out of stock often. very yummy!
Wow that looks amazing! My boyfriend is not a fan of hot chocolate, but this looks too good not to be a fan! I will have to try this out and see if I can convert him… Otherwise more for me :)
Can’t wait to read your Hot Topic post!
Have a beautiful day*
That hot chocolate looks PERFECT. I know what recipe I’m using the next time I get a craving :D
I love that this calls for coconut milk! It sounds absolutely divine!
Wow! That looks fantastic and totally gluttonous! Love it! : )
Oh dear… Added to my grocery list: coconut milk, yeah!
I was craving chocolate yesterday, too! I don’t usually, but thanks to TOM, if I didn’t get chocolate, like, 5 minutes ago, someone was going to get hurt!! I’m definitely making this for Nate this weekend!
You need to write a cookbook! I love your recipes! :)
I’ve been satisfying my chocolate/peanut butter craving everyday with my smoothie but I’m not gonna lie…I think today might be the day for some real chocolate and your warm drink will do the trick!
Ummm…every DAY is a day when I crave chocolate and nothing else will do :-)
This hot cocoa looks seriously to DIE for!!!
every day is a chocolate day for me!! ive been obsessed with hot chocolate this winter and this recipe looks like a keeper! and you guys are right…it would make a very sweet vday treat :)
One more reason for me to get that cookbook. I understand the need for chocolate, no explanation needed.
Ummmm, that hot chocolate looks AHHHHMAAAAAZZZING! And I just scored a coupon for glo bakery and placed my first order! I’m so excited! I was reluctant to order up until now because the shipping is a little high :( But the coupon sold me :) Can’t wait til they get here!!!
o…mi…GAWD. That’s all I have to say. ;)
Mmmm looks good!! And that’s coming from a non-chocolate lover! Definitely sounds like a good v-day to me!!
That cocoa looks yummy!
We’re planning on making heart shaped pizzas at home. Boyfriend can have all the meat he wants and I can have my veggie pizza ♥ I’m still thinking about a dessert. We’re also going to rent a romantic movie. I’m going to try to coerce my boyfriend into watching the Notebook, mwhahahahahahaha.
Oh, I’m definitely a chocoholic! I have fudgy oatmeal almost every morning =)
I loooove that drink in ED&BV! Love, love, love :D
Yummmm… oh chocolate! I’ve been making hot cocoa every night with rice or soy milk, cocoa powder and a little agave nectar. Such a great cold weather treat. :)
yaaaay! I was able to take advantage of the v-day discount!
I feel you 100% on that chocolate craving! I can’t get enough – I ate just about all the chocolate in my house and still want more? I don’t know.
To get my fix ever since we oh so mysteriously ran out of chocolate I’ve been simmering So Delicious coconut milk with one or two bags of Yogi Mayan Cocoa Spice tea, some cocoa powder, and sweetening with agave. I might need a new box of tea…
Your hot chocolate looks absolutely divine.
Wow…that. looks. amazing.
Wow, you really were felling that cocoa– seduction city.
Thank you for the recipe – my boyfriend will absolutely LOVE this. He actually will “bulldoze anything in HIS path” to get chocolate.
Looks SO delish!
I am such a chocoholic…this looks perfect for me! Love the pictures…just gorgeous!
That looks scrumptious! I wish I had some coconut milk at home!
Wow that looks amazing!!
I’m a total choc-o-holic. I need a little bit EVERY DAY!
Hi! I’m Natasha and I’m a chocoholic. I eat chocolate every evening for my dessert, and if I can’t have it I get a bit crazy… it’s my drug! My fiance knows better than to get in my way when I want it, and he knows better than to let the supplies dwindle.
Mmm that hot chocolate is perfect for the weather we have been having lately!
Looks amazing!
Can’t wait for the hot topic post!
You can’t really go wrong with chocolate. But this is just crazy. If I could taste it, I’d lick my screen. And if I had those ingredients on hand (and it didn’t require braving the snow) I’d make it right now!!
Mouth. Is. Watering.
Umm, yeah, that hot chocolate looks like the best thing ever! I love the marshmallows and chips on top, yum! Perfect Valentine’s treat. :)
Ahh, that looks and sounds amazing. It’s funny cuz Sandra Lee on the FoodNetwork (not a fan) made a “tall, dark and handsome” cocktail the other day which looked “mehh…” — THIS on the other hand…YUM.
ANGELA,
when are the GLUTEN FREE glo bars coming?! i’ve been dying for them!! :)
not for a while…lots left to do for them. I will announce it on the blog :)
I am very much a chocoholic and my husband is the complete opposite. LOL! It’s so sad because he hates anything sweet and I always feel bad eating it. OF course, I’ve gotten a lot better as the years have gone by, but every now and then a girl needs some chocolaty goodness, right?
This looks amazing!!
K
I’m a chocoholic learning to be less of one so that I don’t irritate my stomach. But it is oh so delicious.
Oh girl, this has me looking at my boring black coffee hoping and willing it to turn into this amazing looking hot chocolate. I need to 1) get my hands on ED & BV and 2) make this ASAP!
I’ve seen several people say FOOD PORN.
And I must agree.
Gosh I NEED chocolate ASAP now. That looks delicious, and the ingredients sound amazing! yum!
I have all those ingredients at home. I’m totally making this tonight.
SWOON! this looks gorgeous and perfect…mmmmmmmm :) i’m definitely a chocoholic and am hoping to make a rocking flourless chocolate cake on Valentines!
That hot chocolate sounds so good. I like that is uses coconut milk. What happens if you use light coconut milk? That the only kind I have in my pantry right now.
*Drool* Making this when I’m in NY with Dan this weekend!
So excited to try the Adore bars!
I am absolutely a chocoholic – my whole family is! My mom has always eaten a chocolate bar every single day … she is about 100 pounds, so it’s okay :-)
I have always been a HUGE Chocoholic. I always carry chocolate with me. I started eating 70% dark several years ago for the health benefits but still like milk and white chocolate too. Bernard Callebaut is one of my favourite brands. Hot chocolate is another weakness of mine, and I usually have a cup of cocoa at least once or twice a week. I have got to try Dark, Tall and Handsome — looks divine.
Hot cocoa is one of my FAVORITE ways to get a chocolate fix. This looks like such a decadent and DELICIOUS way to have it, too – so good!
What a great idea: I def want to make this for my next girls night. I am a HUGE chocoholic – like a dangerous one : ) Don’t go a day without it.
I would like to make something in the spirit of V.day, but am not sure what yet. Almond Raspberry Jam Heart Scones?
Yum! This looks delicious. I’ve been thinking of what I could do for hot chocolate since I’m not really drinking dairy anymore and this is perfect! Thank you!
Yes, I’m a chocoholic and am ok with it. I think for Valentine’s Day, I’m going to make my one-bowl chocolate cake- maybe even vegan… hmmmm….
OMG!!!!!! That looks and sounds amazing. Your pictures are truly beautiful! I always love your spoon shots, they are works of art!
I must find vegan marshmallows! Do you find your Dandies in a store (if so, you are sooo lucky!) or do you order online?
I just ordered some glo bars… I’ve waited so long to do so! Mostly because of the price, but you conviced me : you are such a good and inspiring cook, no doubt those are all worth it! Now can’t wait to try them! :)
That hot cocoa sounds delish! Also, just made my first purchase of glo bars – I’m so excited to try them!!
I AM a chocoholic. I must have this on one of my treat days :D:D
I’m having a blogger meetup at my house this weekend…and this looks like it might be a winner for one of the things I’m making!!! We’ll see!! Also might make your pnut butter cups! I have all of the ingredients for this drink. must.try.tonight. I am sympathizing with your NEED FOR CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!
i think thats the best looking recipe you’ve ever posted!!
Ooh sounds yummy! I might just have to treat myself to that on Valentines day. It’s funny, I was listening to a nutrition podcast this morning and it was saying that chocolate cravings are sometimes linked to a lack of magnesium and wanting something sweet after a meal can be linked to a zinc deficiency. Don’t know how true or widely applicable that is– I think I just like sweets!– but it’s interesting nevertheless.

can you say yum? That looks absolutely amazing!
And nope, not a chocoholic. I like cinnamony-sweet desserts and I actually don’t like plain milk or dark chocolate. I hated hershey kisses as a little girl
I echo the food porn comments. Seriously. Cannot wait to make this!
AW bummer. I was going to use the coupon code and but it said all 30 people used it up. I love the Empower bar. The best of both worlds-chocolate and coffee!
oh well, I guess next time.
Mmmm…. That sounds so good. I Love the valentines day idea, sounds so cozy and romantic. I am definately going to have to make a batch soon.
How funny! I was just talking to my husband last night and telling him I have never craved Chocolate as much as I have this past week. It’s been CRAZY!!!
im not a chocoholic (except for about one week per month lol)–but i think you’ve just converted me.
Omggg I almost regret reading this post lol bc that cocoa looks SO GOOD. I know what I’m making this weekend!
Yum!! What a cute post :) That looks delicious. I’m actually NOT a huge chocolate person (I’d take ice cream, pie, or something fruity and sweet over chocolate any day)… but I do like hot chocolate on occasion. Especially with all this snow!! :)
Oh My God, that hot chocolate looks to-die-for! You never fail to impress me. I’m so glad you posted the recipe, I’ll be making it after I shovel the mountain of snow outside!
Andrea
Oh. My. That’s some good looking chocolate.
Oh my- this looks incredible! I’m actually baking some healthy treats for my BF for VDay!
OMG, droooooool! That looks SO AMAZING. I want it for lunch…
I have been having one of those chocolate weeks, too – and so have several of my friends! Is there a chocolate flu going around? I canNOT get enough of it lately.
omg.
that.looks.SO.GOOD!!!!
must go look for something chocolatey immediately!!!
Yummmmmmm I love hot chocolate and I haven’t had it in ages! I’m going to make this ASAP! I love chocolate it’s my weakness!
OMG! This looks incredible. Is it really thick and chocolatey? I’ve been drinking carob lately which is something new for me, but this looks too good to pass up.
We love to make homemade cocoa together. It’s especially good with a pinch of cayenne! OR with a dash of godiva liquor! ;)
That hot cocoa looks SO good, but I have this weird problem wehre i think it LOOKS great then i dont realy like it. I guess I like my chocolate straight up…hehehe
Oh, adding coconut milk sounds like an excellent idea! I’m already dreaming about making it this weekend! Maybe I’ll indulge after seeing the Valentine’s Day movie with my hubby! :D
Wow that looks amazing! I LOVE the coconut milk idea.
Love cocoa! It’s my favourite late night hot drink.
oh. my. goodness.
That looks so good!! Sometimes a gal just needs a chocolate fux!!!
These pictures just made me salivate. Does that make me a chocoholic?
I’m drooling all over the place right now….that looks absolutely breath taking!!! HOLY YUM!
You just described my perfect Valentine’s Day! Looks great!
Just wanted to say YAY, I can see your site again!!
“Unlike the male variety, this form of tall, dark, and handsome is guaranteed not to disappoint.” best.quote.ever
that drink looks so fabulous! i cant wait to read about the friends & weight issue – sounds so interesting!
OMG….I had the exact same craving last night!!! Sometimes a girl just needs chocolate
Now THAT is a mug of cocoa! I think I have a new treat to try!
Haha! You crack me up! I love the “one female that would bulldoze anything to get it” analogy. That’s something I would definitely do if necessary. :)
Thanks for that extra 20% off! I was able to take advantage of the offer, and I’m so grateful. So ready for my Adore bars to get here.
Cheers to chocolate!
That hot chocolate looks so amazing! I get the chocolate craving more often than I’d like. I always think as long as it’s dark it’s healthy :)
Thanks so much for the coupon! I am definitely going to be ordering me some more bars!
What a great idea on the hot cocoa and healthy too. I’m going to have to try it this V- Day weekend.
I’m only a chocolate fan a few days a month–haha. My husband on the other hand LOVES it ALWAYS. He wants chocolate rolled in chocolate, dipped in chocolate, then sprinkled in chocolate. LOL!
Be sure to come by my blog Monday! I’ll have a cute little Green Monster story to share!
Glu-ten-free, glut-ten-free (said in chanting voice). :D
I posted a 101 on sprouting, if you are still interested in reading.

I just bought some mini marshmallows and intending to make some cocoa drink during the weekend!
Where do you get vegan mini-marshmallows for something like this? The only kind I can find are super expensive and in the refrigerated section.
so lucky i have left over coconut milk and using a milk frother makes it amazing and where can i get dandies
Thank you for all your wonderful recipes:) I am hosting a christmas party for non vegan friends and I was wondering if this recipe will pass the test and also could it be doubled/tripled and made in a slowcooker?
Hey Tara, I think any chocolate lover would enjoy it! As for the slow cooker, I cant see why not…just keep it at a low heat to prevent burning. Let me know how it goes!
Angela, you were right. This is the best hot cocoa in the world, ever, times infinity. Thank you for yet another marvelous recipe! It was perfect to sip on this cold, snowy night in Germany. I’m looking forward to making it again. Tomorrow.
Holy mother of God this stuffs amazing!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!! Wow!!!!!
Hi Angela,
I love your blog and your recipes!! I’ve been reading it for about a year and it is helping with my slow transition to vegan eating. I was wondering if you have any recommendations for a vegan caramel sauce? Salted or unsalted? Salted caramel hot chocolate was one of my favorite hot drinks from Starbucks at one point.
Hey there, I do have a caramel recipe – you can find it in this PDF: http://ohsheglows.com/docs/Upside_Down_Cake.pdf the original post is here: http://ohsheglows.com/2010/10/10/project-food-blog-4-upside-down-makes-right-side-up/ enjoy!
