<p>Last night was one of those nights for me. </p>
<p>After realizing that Spring would be coming to an abrupt end in 8 days, I decided it was now or never for my annual <strong>Spring Clean Purge</strong>.</p>
<p>Each Spring, I gather up all unnecessary items and I donate them to charity. Last night I collected 5 bags of things. Many of these items were items that I was having a hard time letting go of <u>last year</u>, and lo and behold I never wore them once! Moral of the story: <a href="http://ohsheglows.com/2010/05/15/always-trust-your-gut/">Always trust your gut</a>.</p>
<p>Sometimes, it takes me a while to part with an item. My motto now is <strong>if I haven’t worn it in a full calendar year (all types of weather!) it gets donated</strong>. BOOM. If you live in Alberta, you can change that to ‘if I haven’t worn it in a full week’. <img src='http://ohsheglows.com/wp-content/plugins/smilies-themer/Nomicons v2.0/ninja.png' alt=':ninja:' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Eric was so inspired by my donation bags, he decided to do his own SCP…</p>

<p>Yes, those are Daffy Duck and Superman ties. [You know who you are.]</p>
<p>It was amusing watching Eric take each item of clothing from his closet and comment on it. One of my favourite comments was: ‘<em>It is so small on me it barely covers my nipples!</em>’ </p>
<p>Where does he come up with this stuff? I seriously lost it laughing on a heap of clothes when he said that. I said, ‘Oh come on, it almost covers your belly button at least!’ Needless to say he donated it. I’m sure some 8 year old will be very happy.</p>
<p>Then it was time for more Farmer’s Market prep!</p>

<p>My mother-in-law used to be a huge crafter and she would sell all of her goods from her home. The basement would literally be flooded with her crafts and she would be up until the wee hours of the night preparing.</p>
<p>Eric had the prestigious role of being the <strong>crafter’s assistant</strong> when he was a child. One of the more memorable (and oddly enjoyable tasks) he recalled was <strong>picking the dried glue off the table for his mom</strong>. <img src='http://ohsheglows.com/wp-content/plugins/smilies-themer/Nomicons v2.0/laughing.png' alt=':lol:' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>His resume also boasts potpourri and wreath maker. <p>Is it any wonder we fell i love? I think not.</p>
<p>Our window seat in the office is the same length as the market table I am buying, so I thought it would be a good place to do a <strong>dress rehearsal</strong> on!</p>

<p>Remember when I made my <a href="http://ohsheglows.com/2009/05/03/raw-chocolate-chip-cookies/">raw chocolate chip cookie balls</a> in May 2009? Well, I used the recipe for inspiration, threw in some new and amazing ingredients, and came out with a few kick-butt flavours! </p>
<p>They are OFF THE HOOK! </p>

<p>The market orientation went great today! I met some lovely people and I felt much better after seeing the market site and finding out about how it will all operate. The market is held in GORGEOUS downtown Oakville and it honestly could not be a better spot for a Farmers Market! 		<title>I&#8217;m Sixteen Again</title>

<p>Remember <a href="http://ohsheglows.com/2010/01/31/trapped-with-a-spider/">last Saturday</a>, when I had high hopes for my day off and the day ended up being kind of a dud? Well, today surely made up for it! </p>
<p>The stars must have aligned perfectly in the sky, because my day was Perfect with a capitol P. </p>
<p>After my <a href="http://ohsheglows.com/2010/02/06/homemade-crunchy-maple-quinoa-cereal/">amazing breakfast</a>, I hit the treadmill for my planned ‘long’ Saturday run. </p>
<ul>
<li>Mile 1 = 6 mph, incline 3%</li>
<li>Mile 2 = 6.1 mph, incline 3%</li>
<li>Mile 3 = 6.2 mph, incline 3%</li>
</ul>
<p>I took a quick water break in between each mile. Immediately after the run I did the <a href="http://www.on2url.com/app/adtrack.asp?MerchantID=84326&amp;AdID=478142">Booty Camp Fitness</a> Booty Booster, which is 14 minutes of just GLUTE exercises. It is intense! I used to hate working out my butt, but I want to do it all the time now. </p>
<p>After the Booty was a burnin’, I did <a href="http://www.dailyspark.com/blog.asp?post=13_yoga_poses_to_help_runners_and_other_athletes">13 poses for runners</a>. Felt good to stretch the tight limbs out.</p>
<p>I updated my <a href="https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AiP52xWiPR1GdEM2TEZZelV4RS1BRzlFYXZ2OVdlTXc&amp;hl=en">Spring Training Plan</a>, including some notes of how I felt after my first week. </p>
<p>Then I had a wonderful <strong>Epsom salt soak</strong>, a purifying face mask, and I even painted my toes (bright pink with light pink polka-dots). It was a ‘spa on a budget’ as I call it. :mrgreen: </p>
<p>By this time, I was starving for lunch! <a href="http://soupupmyhouse.com">Eric</a> asked me to make the <a href="http://ohsheglows.com/2010/02/04/vegan-pizza-with-cheeze/">Ezekiel vegan pizzas</a> for lunch. </p>
<p>I made Eric the same one I made for myself the other day and then I decided to change mine up a bit. I made my sauce using salsa and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutritional_yeast">nutritional yeast</a>. It wasn’t good like I hoped, so I spruced up my pizza with my favourite BBQ sauce:</p>

<p>Ever had a Pinata apple? It was a very crisp apple and looked a lot like a Gala. The taste was a bit off at first bite, but I enjoyed it the more I ate it.</p>
<p>After lunch I did an insane amount of laundry, baked some pumpkin biscuits (and ate an insane amount!), and then Eric and I left for my favourite place in the world…</p>

<p>We couldn’t decide what to do next. Then on the spur of the moment, <strong>Eric offered to teach me how to drive standard</strong> (stick!)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! </p>
<p>I have been wanting to learn forever now and was totally up for it, although very nervous!!!</p>
<p>He took us to an empty parking lot…</p>

<p>and we switched seats and the rest is history! </p>
<p>It was HILARIOUS. <strong>We could not stop laughing because I was stalling, the car was jolting forward, and I was screaming</strong>. Quite the sight. Once I accidently shifted into 5th gear instead of third and the car was not happy…I had a momentary freak out because I didn’t know what was going wrong, and then Eric noticed it was in 5th! Don’t worry his car is old and worn out, so we weren’t too worried about doing much harm to it…</p>
<p>Despite the initial kinks, I was driving pretty smooth and changing into 2nd and 3rd gear after just 15 minutes or so. After about an hour of driving, we headed home, both quite proud of the first lesson.</p>
<p>I can’t wait for the next lesson. I can totally see why people say driving standard is more fun! I am quite scared of learning hills though…and you know, being around other cars (eek). Baby steps…</p>

<p>I had a little nibble of the frozen puree and I was a bit surprised that it wasn’t naturally sweet. The GM definitely needed some banana. I used 1/2 a banana, 1/2 c almond milk, 1/2 cup water, and chia seeds. </p>

<p>This was my first time trying these out after I heard rave reviews about them from a couple readers.</p>
<p>The nutritional stats are excellent!</p>
<p>Some highlights, per serving: 4 grams protein, 7 grams fibre, low in sodium (135 mg), and 0.6 g of Omega 3 Fatty acids. Not too shabby for a ‘chip’.</p>

<li>These were crunchy, crispy, and thick- loved the texture!</li>
<li>A bit salty for my liking, however they paired nice with my low sodium homemade hummus</li>
<li>Delicious blue corn taste</li>

<p>Overall, I LOVED these chips. Eric and I were so hungry after our grocery shop we ripped open the bag and ate a bunch on the drive home. We couldn’t stop eating these! </p>

<p>The only thing I didn’t like about this product was that it was high on packaging. There are 6 packages of 8 crackers. Since I work from home, I don’t really need this kind of grab and go snack, but I could see how it would be really useful for those of you who are looking for a grab and go snack for school or work.</p>

<p><strong>Do you ever encounter a smiling stranger on the streets that just makes your day? Or do you ever smile at people and see them brighten up?</strong></p>
<p>Yesterday, I was climbing Murder Hill and I was struggling. I felt like I was running but staying in the same spot because the incline is so steep. Anyways, I was probably grimacing to myself when this stranger passed on his bike (going downhill) and simply gave a sincere and sympathetic smile to me. It kind of made me laugh and totally brightened the rest of the climb. Sometimes a simple smile can change someone’s outlook.</p>

<p>For my main course, I ordered the vegetarian burger (sans egg) with a side house salad. Not sure why they put cheese on it! I just picked around it. I ordered the balsamic dressing on the side (a great trick that I always do with any type of dish that has a sauce).</p>

<p>I feel like we’ve been spoiled this past week. We’ve been ‘out for dinner’ 3 times in 1 week (<a href="http://ohsheglows.com/2009/08/12/birthday-flop/">Eric’s birthday</a>, <a href="http://ohsheglows.com/2009/08/16/dine-wine-dance-leahs-wedding-reception/">Leah’s WEDDING</a>, and tonight)! <strong>I think that is more than we have eaten out all YEAR</strong>! haha. While it is nice not to have to do dishes and cook, I do prefer to cook myself at home. Nothing beats it…and it is just <strong>so much cheaper</strong>. For what we paid for Eric’s birthday dinner, we could have almost bought groceries for a week! It’s crazy to think about.</p>

<p>OK guys, I promised myself this was my LAST <strong><u>store bought</u></strong> pitas and hummus this week!!! For the past several weeks, I keep saying, ‘I really need to start making my <strong><a href="http://ohsheglows.com/2009/02/16/110-110-kcal-organic-homemade-spelt-tortillas/">Buck Ten Spelt Tortillas</a></strong> and <strong><a href="http://ohsheglows.com/2009/02/09/50-cent-hummus/">50 cent hummus</a></strong> again to save money!!’ <u>So it ends here</u>. </p>
<p>I am going to <strong>make time</strong> this week to make them. <strong>It has been way too long</strong>. And the <strong>spelt tortillas</strong> are sooooooo good- actually my favourite things in the world!!!</p>
<p>Just as the name says the spelt tortillas only cost $1.10 for 1 batch. So I will save about $2 by making them myself (and they are super quick to make- like 10 minutes). The hummus also only costs 50 cents per batch, which <strong>saves me about $5-6</strong> because it makes twice the amount!Ok, now that I just typed that I am seriously kicking myself for slacking in the homemade food department. I need to set aside some time each week to prep these things. By taking just 30 minutes out of each week, I could be saving over $10 VERY easily. <strong>Please give me a kick in the butt if I don’t make these this week!</strong></p>

<p>Well, I am off to bake up two orders and then get cracking on a couple business calls. I have a huge long list of Glo Bakery stuff to do this week. Let’s hope I can charge through it!</p>

<p><strong>Today’s question: Do you make any homemade versions of things to save some money instead of buying it at the store/restaurant? What are they?</strong></p>
<p>One thing I always make at home is tea (unless of course it is the odd time like tonight when I was out to eat and wanted something other than wine or water). You will be hard pressed to ever find me buying a tea at a coffee shop. When I was in the workplace all of my coworkers went on a coffee run every morning and afternoon. I brought my own kettle to work and made my own tea instead. It saves me so much money- probably $60 a month (yes, I drink a lot of green tea, hahaha)!!!</p>

<p>I opened it up and exclaimed to Eric, ‘<strong>Oh my God, it looks like BRAIN</strong>!!’</p>
<p>It was <strong>squishy, translucent, and rubbery feeling</strong>. Just like a brain!</p>
<p>I took a deep breath and tasted it. It was so disturbing biting into this fruit let me tell you, and I am usually not one who is bothered by any textures at all!</p>
<p>I was disappointed in the taste though. It was a bit ‘off’ tasting and left a <strong>weird after taste</strong>. I am wondering if this is because I had the yellow variety and not the deep pink? I will have to keep my eyes peeled for the pink variety and try those.</p>
<p>So what should I do with the 4 that remain? <a href="http://www.lycheesonline.com/lycheemartini.cfm">A martini</a>? Throw it in my green montser? :)</p>
<p>Trying new foods is fun though! I never knew what the inside of this fruit looked like!</p>

<p>I have been asked whether I buy exclusively organic produce when I shop. The quick answer to this is no.</p>
<p>The more lengthy answer behind it is for a couple reasons. 1) We used to buy everything organic that our grocery store carried. Since starting up <strong><a href="http://globakery.com">Glo Bakery</a></strong> however, we made many cutbacks on our spending. One of the first things that went was organic produce. The only things I tend to buy organic now are spinach, kale, apples, and tomatoes (<a href="http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/nutrition/a/pesticides.htm">all high risk</a> for pesticides that I eat every single day!). I also try to buy organic tomato sauce whenever possible. However, I don’t tend to buy organic peppers, zucchini, avocados, or other produce items (especially if it has a thick skin that is not eaten) simply because of the cost. </p>
<p>We also buy some organic produce like grapes when it is on sale. Otherwise, everything else you see is just regular produce. And 2) Our local grocery stores don’t have a large organic section so there are many products that they simply don’t carry organic, or they do carry it, but they are never fresh. No thanks!</p>
<p>I am thinking about purchasing a <strong>local CSA</strong> for the fall season, but I need to look into it more and research the costs.</p>

<p>I don’t know why but lately my body doesn’t want to sleep longer than 7 hours- even though I am still quite tired when I wake up! This tends to happen to me in the summer. I guess because of the extra daylight my body needs less sleep! Does this happen to anyone else?</p>
<p>Last night Eric and I were up until about 12:30am researching bar packagers. We didn’t end up going to a movie because we missed the late show by the time dinner was wrapped up. We might go on Tuesday night when it is cheap night!</p>
<p>We also hung my Glo Bakery frame that my mom made me!!! :D It is hanging right outside the kitchen. I like to think of it as my bakery sign. ;) </p>

<p>Today I worked on my OSG logo design!! <strong><a href="http://zestycooks.com" target="_blank">Zesty</a></strong> gave me this awesome idea for the ‘O’ and ‘S’ intertwining to create the O-S-G- ummm…genius Zesty!!!! :) Zesty designed the funky looking OSG symbol and then I played around with colours and the wording. I took that idea and ran with it and designed this today using my favourite font ‘<strong>ForgetMeNot HMK’</strong>- a very rare font and I love it!</p>

<p>This isn’t a final logo or anything, but I am pretty happy with it so far. I need to fix the food-fitness…etc part to make it more clear. I am getting better at photoshop than I used to be so <strong>I just LOVE doing logos now</strong>!</p>
<p>I will be placing Oh She Glows.com + logo on my race tank as well as Glo Bakery and the amount of money that I raised for Cancer. I was also toying with the idea of putting ‘<strong>Post Run Glow’</strong> on the front :D I know, I know, I’m nerdy but I love it!</p>
