Update: Nov 9th – I am so excited to let you know that we raised $10,073 for Hurricane Sandy relief. I am simply blown away. Thank you all for your generosity!
I created a spreadsheet with your entries and we had a total of 591 people entered for the draw. All contest winners today were selected using Random.org.
The winner of my Vegan/GF Foodie Box is #79 – Charlotte Cromwell!
The winner of the Blendtec is #556 – Maria Winson!
Like many of you, I’ve been glued to the TV watching the coverage of Hurricane Sandy over the past week. My heart goes out to everyone who was impacted. As a spectator, it’s difficult to wrap my mind around the devastation, let alone what it’s like to be in the heart of it all. We were pretty fortunate here in Ontario, relatively speaking.
My second blog giveaway was planned for today, but I felt compelled to turn it into something that could help those in need. We’ve had great success in the past with the Japan Disaster fundraiser and Shop 4 A Cause and I know with your support we can also make this one a huge success as well.
Fundraising Page Update!! Thanks to the Canadian Red Cross, we now have our own fundraising page set up directly through their website. This means no transaction fees! Hooray. A big thanks to Teilo and Catherine for setting this up and the Red Cross team who put the page together! All links are now updated in this post to direct you to the new page. Don’t worry if you donated previously through Canada Helps – all of your info has been added into my spreadsheet for the giveaway draw. Thanks for your amazing support! The fundraising amount on the Canadian Red Cross page also reflects the total amount we’ve raised, including those earlier donations on Canada Helps. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask!
So. My goal is to raise 50 billion by Tues. Nov. 6th. ;)
Ok, how does $3,000 sound? I know we can do that! Update: We raised $3,560 in less than 24 hours! Let’s see if we can hit $5,000?
As a thank you for making a donation, I will be doing two random draws for some pretty sweet prizes.

I just donated! Thank you for supporting this cause, and for your wonderful blog! :)

Emma from Orange County, California. Just donated via the new website. Angela, thank you for helping us come together to support such a good cause. My mom has volunteered with the Red Cross, and she confirms that they really do help people with the donations they receive. Hoping we reach our goal by the end of Day # 1. We rock!
Thank you Emma :) Glad the new page is working fine. Yes, Red Cross has been rated as one of the best charities in Canada. I’m happy your mom had a good experience with them too.
I donated too :) I am not sure if I put my e-mail in the right place either but hopefully it will all work out. Thanks so much! You are almost at your goal!
I live at the Jersey Shore and this post just brought a tear to my eye. I can’t tell you how thankful and grateful everyone here is to see so much love and support coming from people. Thank you so much, to anyone, who has donated time, money, or supplies to help those effected by the storm. It really means the world to us.
Thank you for doing this. I live in Toms River and although my house is fine some of my neighbors houses have been devastated. I have police at the end of my street checking ID becasue looting has started. My mother in law and I have been donating to the local shelters because so many of our neighbors and friends have lost so much. It’s nice to see that others are looking to help too!
Fantastic idea Ange!
Just donated. I’m a poor grad student, but I know every dollar helps!
I donated. This is a great idea.
oh no! i just donated but forgot to put my name in the comment box as i did not see one. hahaa. im sorry, angela! can you make note of it? happy to help but also happy to maybe win :)
Yup not to worry, Im checking the comments page and adding the emails all in :)
YOU are AMAZING! Going todonate!
This is so wonderful of you to do. I live in Florida, so I’m used to seeing hurricanes come and go. I just cannot believe the devastation I’ve seen on the news. I hope everyone gets all of the help that they need.
Being a student its hard to donate a ton of money, but I have donated to other fundraisers, as well as this one, knowing that a little bit goes a long way each time I do donate. I wasn’t entirely sure of the email address in the comment box thing, but I did enter in my email address when completing the form…is that what you meant? Anyways, thanks for turning a giveaway into an even better “giveaway”!
I just donated :) awesome idea!! I can already tell you will surpass your goal, you are already at $2545!!!
This is wonderful! I live in NYC, but the area I live in got incredibly lucky. It’s so heartbreaking to watch the devastation going on all around me. I’m trying to figure out how to bake some vegan goodies to bring into shelters and areas that need them! Thank you for keeping all of the hurricane victims in your thoughts.
Thank you for doing this Angela!! It means a lot that you are far away but still thinking of us on the US east coast. I am from central NJ and was lucky to see only minor damage to my town. Our beloved shore, however, has been devastated, as have many other areas in NJ and beyond. I love your blog but this really makes you special. Thank you again!
Wow, great idea! I also can’t imagine what it must be like for all of the victims and friends and family of the victims, but I am so glad that there are people all over the world (like you!) that are doing their best to help out in some way.

Just donated! You are truly an amazing person Angela. I have been following your blog for over a year now and I can never get enough of it. I am currently living and teaching in China and although it is extremely difficult to find many vegan ingredients here I still manage to create some of your delicious recipes (I made your carrot ginger soup from the other day for some friends last night and it was a big hit!) I can’t thank you enough for your blog!
I just donated but didn’t see a comments box. Here’s my email address to be entered to win those fabulous prizes!

I have been trying to leave a donation, but I get a decline message. Has anyone else had trouble donating through Red Cross’ page?
Way to mobilize resources! I just donated and am grateful for another way to help my downtown neighbors. On to flashlights, water, and nonperishable foods!
