Online Vegan Shopping Guide: Canada, USA, Australia, UK, and Beyond!

April 11, 2012

online-shopping-cart

Do you ever start a project with zest and vitality only to feel like you’ve created an uncontrollable monster after a couple hours?

Examples: Cleaning out your closet. Organizing a pantry. Home renovations. Writing a thesis. Wedding thank yous. Sometimes, it has to get worse before it gets better.

Well, that’s sort of how I felt with this little pet project of mine. What started as an innocent list quickly became a huge undertaking. I asked you for suggestions yesterday on twitter and Facebook for online and in-person stores and they came a floodin’ in! (If you are curious, check out the list here on my Facebook page). My list quickly turned into 4 pages of chicken scratch. Originally, I started making a blog post linking and organizing ALL of the in-store and online vegan stores across the world. You can see how I quickly got in over my head. After working on it all day yesterday, I decided to just focus on the online stores for this post and then figure out what I will do with the storefront list after.

This vegan online shopping guide is a follow-up to Monday’s “Inside my Vegan Pantry” post. My goal for this guide today is to bring awareness to all of the wonderful vegan & vegan-friendly online stores. Feel free to do some price comparing to get the best bang for your buck.

Most of the stores below are food-related, but I also included some clothing and cosmetics as well.

I will add to this list as other recommendations come in (feel free to let me know about other online stores in the comment section!). It’s also likely that I missed some of your suggestions on Twitter and FB yesterday, so you can comment below if you don’t see it on the list and I will add it in.

Wow, this is incredibly helpful. Thanks for putting the work in for all of us! Breaking up the posts is also good–otherwise I think I’d be way too overwhelmed!

Hi

In the UK, you could add: http://www.soundbitesderby.org.uk/

They do have an online shop, but only deliver to Derby (East Midlands) and the surrounding area. Lovely shop, though and nice people.

They also sell non-food items.

Now the real questions…do any of these ship to Paris, France? :)

www.bodysense.com is good for cosmetics. Also http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ is a database for cosmetics and has a rating system to help you prevent exposure to toxic chemicals.

I’m a huge fan of Vitacost! I buy a lot of grains and vitamins (especially quinoa and millet) from this site. If you sign up through my link below, you’ll even get an instant $10 credit! Shipping’s 4.95, so you could get nearly 2 pounds of quinoa for $5 shipped!!

This is awesome – thanks for compiling this! Just wondering though – what’s the advantage to buying online? Is it just that you can get hard-to-find products or are the products cheaper (and if this is the case, are they still cheaper after factoring in shipping?)? :)

I think online shopping can be a great way for ppl to get access to products they might not be able to find in their own area. It’s also fun to price compare and see if you can get a better price or even free shipping. I don’t do a lot of online shopping myself, but there are things I only buy online like chia seeds in bulk and raw buckwheat groats in bulk.

I am not exactly vegan, but becoming more and more high raw vegan. For the last year I had a hard time finding good stuff. For example: I wanted to try chia seeds, but I cannot buy them in regular shops here in Germany (at least, where I live).
Now I buy them -and other things like raw bars- online. Chia seeds are now a staple in my pantry and my diet!!

So let me add some links for Germany (and maybe other european countries). Hopefully they might help somebody else from around here :) .

Hey! I made a similar list here: http://www.rabbitfoodgrocery.com/?p=188

There are always new stores popping up, and I need to compile mine with yours, and add a few new stores that are just opening up.

This is awesome! We’re from Canada, too, and I’ve had some trouble finding certain ingredients. I’m sure I’ll find them on one of the online stores. Thanks!

Hi Angela!
I like
http://boutiqueprana.com/fr/home/
You can get all the raw nuts, seeds, spice, cacao at a very good price for those near montreal.
And
http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/
This is the best place to buy organic medecinal mushroom (shiitake, maitake, reishi). They also have seaweed, spouting seed and all kind of herbs and spices. They deliver in USA and Canada.
Thank for the nice ressources!

For harder to find, mostly raw bulk food, essential living foods is a great site. Pricey but great quality…and you know where they’re sourced and that they’re actually raw, etc. essentiallivingfoods.com
