Today marks 3 years since I started blogging on October 31, 2008. My, my how times flies!

sttempt2

Every year that goes by, I’m so grateful for YOU sharing this journey with me and allowing me to grow as a person, make some mistakes along the way, and pursue my dreams. I don’t have all the answers or even many, but what I do know is that we all have something to learn from one another. Sharing our life experiences, gaining insight, laughter, great food, and wisdom. That’s what you give to me each day.

I also know that I really, really have no control around brownies. Or Sketchie cuddles.

IMG_7896IMG_8639IMG_8810IMG_7892IMG_7955IMG_8853IMG_7843IMG_7670

Yesterday I spent a bit of time reading through old blog entries from 2008…oh man, it was funny to read some old posts! The blog has certainly changed and grown in so many ways, as have I. One of my biggest challenges over the past few years has been learning to listen to my heart when sometimes it feels like it’s being pulled in a thousand directions. So far it hasn’t steered me wrong more than… a few times. But that’s OK too.

IMG_7952IMG_7922IMG_7927IMG_7930

I’ve been sitting on some blog news for a while now, but it didn’t really feel fitting to throw at the end of a recipe, so I’ll share it with you today!

IMG_0002 (2) - CopyThank you for your votes in Chatelaine Magazine’s Women of the Year awards! I found out last week that I’m a winner in the Hot 20 Under 30 category and I couldn’t be more excited to be included with so many inspiring women.

I really encourage you to pick up the magazine if you can (it’s on newsstands now) as it’s jam packed with women’s stories of personal triumph, business ventures, and so much more.

IMG_5320IMG_1892IMG_2199IMG_2464IMG_2629IMG_2722IMG_2787IMG_2985

Secondly, I’m thrilled to tell you that I recently signed with a literary agent. As you may know, a huge dream of mine is to write cookbooks. For the past while, I’ve been trying to juggle increasing demands with both the bakery and blog businesses and I’ve been running myself into the ground trying to do it all. To give myself the time required to finish the intensive proposal and hopeful future cookbook, I’m closing the bakery. That’s not to say that I will never run the bakery again (who knows maybe someday I will open a storefront), but for now it won’t be open. Your support with the bakery has truly meant the world to me over the past couple years. As a thank you for your support, I hope to include a couple Glo Bar recipes in my future cookbook. This way, you can make them in the comfort of your own home whenever the craving strikes!

IMG_3216IMG_3732IMG_3738IMG_9649

Lastly, I’m excited to be working with Chatelaine Magazine as one of their Health and Wellness bloggers. I’m contributing my favourite seasonal vegan recipes for their blog. If you haven’t checked out their website you really should! It’s brimming with great information and thousands of delicious recipes. I’m really excited to take on freelance work because it’s a great opportunity to spread my love for vegan food. Another opportunity I’ve had recently is to develop the recipes for an article in Glow Magazine, which you can see below.

Ok, now that’s out of the way, let me get to the fun stuff!

IMG_4030 IMG_4038 IMG_4029

I tried to think about one of my favourite kitchen items that I could giveaway on the blog. One of them would definitely have to be a cute apron! They really make cooking and baking more fun.

I picked up this apron and matching pot holder at Pier 1 last week for the giveaway. If for some reason you don’t like this apron, I’ll be happy to buy you an apron of your choice from Anthropologie. I know that not everyone likes pink floral like I do, so there are no hard feelings. ;) I want you to love it!

To enter the giveaway please leave a comment below. Contest closes next Sunday Nov 6th and it’s open to anyone, anywhere. Goodluck!

…and Happy Halloween! T minus 8 hours until I become a Queen of Hearts again…

Love your blog! Although my family is not vegan (far from it, actually) your recipes have been a mega-blessing since my daughter was diagnosed with severe food allergies (dairy, egg, peanut). I can’t stand it when she is left out from food activities, so now I am proud to bring beautiful vegan cupcakes, cookies, and breads not only to her daycare, but to family and work activities. The mac n’cheeze recipes are also fantastic for her – especially the pumpkin one, as she will normally not come within 10 feet of veggies! I have made probably a couple dozen of your recipes and loved them all. I also may have a serious addiction to back-on-track salad, which I am having for lunch again today! I will be first in line to buy the book!

This contest ends November 6th… that is the day I will run my first marathon!! (That’s the first thing that came to mind. Taper brain!)

That apron is absolutely adorbs (<3 anthropologie), and how sweet that it matches a potholder! I learned the hard way last week that the potholder I have doesn't exactly work for temperatures above 300F, haha.

This was the first blog I read (searching for a recipe on google, I think, led me too it). I love the stories, pictures, recipes, and Sketchie too. (Hello, my name is Robin, and I am a future cat lady.) Oh – made the zucchini walnut loaf (sans walnuts because I didn't have them) last week to use up some CSA zucchs and WOW it was tasty! Took me 3 days to polish it off by myself. yum.

Thank you for 3 wonderful years!!

Angela,

You probably don’t even realize the number of lives you touch with this blog. I am not a blogger myself but came across your blog one day on a search to regain my health. I check your blog daily to see all the good stuff you are cooking up and all of the recipes I have tried have been awesome! You are a light at the end of a dark tunnel for those who are struggling with disease and illness and inspire all of us to lead healthier lives and embrace our struggles. On behalf of all of the non-bloggers out there I just want to say THANK YOU!

Angela, you have remained my favourite blogger throughout it all… and I’m happy for you and what you’ve accomplished. I am sad I will never get to order Glo Bars though :(

I can’t wait to read your cookbook … your recipes always come out beautifully for me, which is a rarity, given my cluminess in the kitchen! Maybe someday you’ll have a ‘Vegan Cooking/Baking’ TV show too … ??! I hope so!

Congratulations!!!

Wow, so much great news in this post, Angela! So weird… it’s my blogiversary today, too! I’ve been at it for 1 year, not 3! My gosh. You’re so fantastic! If I can be half the blogger that you are, I’ll be the happiest woman in the world. You’ve accomplished so much, you know yourself, you’re open to new experiences, and you believe in what yourself and what you’re delivering to the world. Congratulations on 3 years of amazing!

I’m not vegan but I make your recipes a lot because they look good, are healthy, and are very yummy! It shows that you put your all into every post and most likely ever facet of your life and it is paying off for you. I need to remember this as I build my own photography business.

Would you believe I have never, ever worn an apron? I wonder if it would help me enjoy baking, or even spending time in the kitchen beyond just a few minutes with the blender or microwave. I think I should perhaps experiment …

We went through a massive detox and did what we dubbed “stricter than vegan” diet, lifestysle really. We cut all animal products, sugar, caffeine, alcohol and bread for 3 months. We felt amazing after the initial shock to our systems in the first 2 weeks. After the 3 months we went vegetarian and started to gradually add back in the other items in moderation. Your recipes have helped us so much! We had virtually no vegan recipes until I found your blog. Thank you!

#1 – Cutest Apron ever! And of course there would be a pot holder to match!!

#2 – YOU have been a huge inpiration to me in the past year that I have been reading your blog. Because of you, I finally got up the nerve to start my own blog in an attempt to find out more about myself, I have become so much more patient in the kitchen -taking the time to ask my husband [he’s the Chef of the house] to spend time teaching me the tricks of the trade and even baking/creating on my own thanks to your recipes! Reading your blog is part of my daily routine and I want to Thank You for that!

#3 – If I had a pretty Apron like that, I am sure I would spend even more time in the kitchen!

Happy Halloween! Happy 3 Year Anniversary! Congrats on the awards! Fingers crossed for the CookBook!!!

Happy 3-year anniversary, and a big CONGRATS on all the exciting things happening in your career! I will definitely be lining up to buy your first cookbook – you’ve been my go-to gal for vegan baking for the last year :) On the off-chance I will your apron (hoping… hoping…) I think I would prefer something in red. I have nothing against pink floral, of course, but it would clash terribly with my kitchen!

Angela, you are an inspiration! I just became vegan two weeks ago after being a vegetarian for nearly four years. I can’t wait to try out all your yummy looking recipes–I’m at college right now, so cooking is difficult but it is one of my passions and loves.

From your “About” and “Before and After” pages, I see in your past what could have been a lot of my future. I too have struggled with eating disorders in my past, and a binge eating disorder for the past year. You present a beautiful image of healing…I am so glad I happened upon your blog. I love your blog…it’s my favorite. If i could only choose one, yours would be it. I’m still getting raves about the cupcakes I made last weekend that are from you (along with requests for more).

The apron is great! It totally beats my yellow one with olives all over it…maybe that’s why something awful happens to everything I bake… it needs to be frillier! If it doesn’t help, then at the very least I’ll feel cute while I’m screwing up whatever it is that I’m baking!

It would look good on the hubby, too.

Congrats on three years of blogging and good luck with the cookbook! I am so glad I found your site because my family has just started going vegan and you have helped us so much. I have a picky teenager and so far she loves everything I have made from your blog. The raw cookie dough balls……..HUGE hit! But it is the vegan mac and cheese, which was a big help because that is her favorite food and she loves the vegan version. Thank you!

Your blog has been a huge influence in my life the last few months as I first experimented with vegan food, and then jumped in head first! I love to bake your breads and cookies (and my carnivore hubbie loves the chocolate chip cookies most of all)! I do tend to end up with flour all over my clothes and I wear a towel when I fry things because I dont own an apron, so here’s hoping I can win one!

Thank you for writing for us for three years. Your posts are always thoughtful, and photos are beautiful! You were the first vegan blogger I started following, and the one who showed me that vegan cooking does not need to be all soy products and fake food. Here’s to three more years, at least!

Congrads on three years of blogging!! It is so inspiring to see how you are achieving all of your goals and dreams. You are so talented, your writing is amazing and your recipes are deeeee-vine. :) I’m currently recovering from an eating disorder that I have struggled with for the past four years. It has been extremely difficult to overcome but I have really been inspired to keep going through your blog. You remind me that recovery really is worth it and that God has so much more for me to do than this. Not to mention, its much easier to eat when I make one of your incredible recipes! (I think I probably printed off almost all of them to make. Patience, Jordan, patience) but anywho, I just want to say congratulations again on all the success your having. And question, would your cookbook be available in the US? Cause if not I think I’m gonna have to take a road trip….

PS: that apron is adorable! and I adore anthropologie.. but sadly my bank account does not..

Congrats on three years!! And on the literary agency- I am so looking forward to the day when I can get my hands on one of your cookbooks!

I would LOVE a pink frilly apron. I recently moved into a new place with a 1920s kitchen, and it absolutely screams for a handmade- or pseudo-handmade- apron to bustle about it.

Hey Angela! I came across your blog a few years ago–the first recipe I tried was the kale pumpkin green monster! Recently, I’ve been trying everything–especially since watching ‘Forks Over Knives’ the other night and feeling especially inspired to eat a plant-based diet! I made the broccoli and lentil dal tonight and veggie burgers last night….annnnd I rekindled my passion for pumpkin with the pumpkin monster. AND I’m about to try the no bake date squares.

Thanks for sharing such great recipes with beautiful pictures! I love spending time exploring on your blog and feeling great about all the food I’m making. :)

Such awesome news! I look forward to reading about how the next stage of your adventure unfolds. You are courageous, and an inspiration. An apron is such a fun idea for a give away! I seem to have lost all of my aprons in my move from Canada to Sweden and I need to get myself a new one asap!

Your blog and journey has been so inspiring to me, Angela! I’m currently struggling with developing a healthy relationship with food. Being the impatient person I am, seeing someone who has successfully overcome this obstacle, but knowing that it took much time, is a comforting thought to me. Love your blog!

Congratulations on 3 Years blogging! Your the first blog I ever read, I found you on a magazine website and since then, I have been hooked! I’m not a Vegan, but I love all your recipes! You make being a Vegan so easy. I like to make your recipes for a Vegan friend of mine who doesn’t and can’t cook. She loves everything I cook and I tell her all the time to go to your site!

I also love how you talked about weight issues, calorie counting and more. I know I’m not alone out there when it comes to weight obsession. You helped me realize that I don’t need to count calories. That was really hard to give up.

Thanks Angela for all the inspiration!!

This is so much happy news; you have worked very hard to achieve all this. I want to be one of the editors on your cookbook! Or at least one of your tasters! My kids all say now when I am cooking, “Another one from Oh She Glows?” You have helped me in many ways through your blog, not only by providing a new way of eating. Thank you, Angela!

You have inspired me to go back to school to follow my passion for nutrition. Thank you for being an inspiration!!

Congratulations on your 3 year anniversary! Quite an accomplishment. I’ve loved trying out your recipes on my family and it seems like each one I try becomes a new favorite! (not easy in a vegan, mostly-gluten-free home!) The last one we l-o-v-e-d was your vegan-gluten-free brownies–kudos on getting the fudgy texture just right—my gf husband thanks you! :)
