This Is Not A Real Post

August 26, 2011

[Do you see the new blog header? If not, hold down the ‘Control’ key and ‘F5’ key at the same time to refresh your page if you aren’t seeing the new header.]

When the seasons change, I’m often motivated to change as well. I purge clutter, enjoy new seasonal food kicks, and break out a to-do list before succumbing to disorganization in 3 days time. Ah, it’s great.

The other day I was reading an article about improving the appearance of a blog. It said, ‘If your website had no text at all, would people know what your blog was about?’

I imagined my blog without text. All that was left was a creepy, glow-y profile picture circa 2008. Yikes.

It was kind of like looking back on my Grade 2 picture seeing myself with a side pony tail and a scrunchie.

Oh wow. Thanks Mom?

heading

I’d like to think this new header is clean, fresh, and seasonal. Aside from my dying basil plant, I was able to grow these vegetables in my garden this summer (the picture, however, is from 2010).

My plan is to create a new header for each season shooting local and seasonal produce. So if you hate this one, it’s only going to be around for about a month. For Fall, you’ll probably see gourds, squash, pumpkins, candy corn, apples, etc.

For Winter, you’ll probably see snow, ice, and extremely unflattering winter boots circa 1994. For Spring, dirt and mud. You get the idea.

This header was a close second with a new and improved tagline…

jokeheader

My third idea was a Chocolate Chunk Toffee Bar dipped into a Green Monster. It demonstrated a lovely balance of health and indulgence, but perhaps not the most photogenic header of all time.

PS- Photoshop owns my soul.

~~

I thought it would be fun to have a discussion about blog headers today. What makes a great blog header? For bloggers: Did you design yours or have someone design it? What do you love about your header or want to change? Feel free to link to your blog in the comments.

HAHA! I love that picture :) I have many similar ones from that age. LOVE the new header, seriously – it’s beautiful!

I miss seeing your face in the header – because your blog is about so much more than vegetables :-)

I love the new header! And the thought of a pumpkin one coming up makes me happy :)
I designed my own blog and did my header on scrapblog.com (because this poor college student can’t afford photoshop!) but I definitely feel like it’s still a work in progress. It’s hard, time-consuming work!

At first I was thinking that I liked the old header, but when you mentioned changing with the seasons I was sold! Can’t wait for falls’ header!

My header is just the title of my blog… wishing I was as skilled at you at photo-shopping myself a new header! I love the idea of having seasonal pictures. Great idea Ange.

Love it! I think clean and simple is key. I’m in the process of redoing mine and I’m working with someone because I don’t know how to do what I envisioned. Looks great!

I love your header (and photography style!) I’ve been trying to make my own photography more simple and less cluttered. There is something to be said for a clean slate.

Thanks so much! I feel limited with my point and shoot but I’m learning as I go and hope to get a DSLR eventually. I really didn’t think I’d love blogging as much as I do and I think I’m ready to make the plunge!

Haha. Thanks. Meant to tell you I made your chocolate chip cookie dough balls III (with almond flour to make GF) at least 4 times in one week at our beach vacation. They were such a hit that people were offering to go buy more ingredients if I’d make them again!

I love the new header! Although I liked being greeted by your smiling face with each visit, I think the new header represents your site and YOU! Not that you didn’t…er….represent yourself before…

As long as you change it up with pictures of you as well – and maybe Sketchie too!

Sketchie would make a fun header…hehe, but I may be biased: www.ourcrazybengal.com

I loved your old header but this one is definitely more user friendly to help firgure out what you and the blog are all about. I created mine myself and I was thinking of showing all the things that make me a happy girl, but honestly, the happiest day of my life was my wedding day so I just took some of my favorite pics from that. I have been toying with the idea of changing it with the season too. Besides, it’s fun to create them. :)

Love the new header! I created my own. I was exploring having a professional make mine, but it was really expensive and I didn’t think it was the right time to spend money on that. Maybe someday!

Love love this header! It’s clean and simple and I absolutely love the idea of changing it with the seasons, but still having the same concept. Genius! :)

I created by own with pictures of myself with the hubby, but I definitely want to change it. Not sure yet to what since my blog is about what living “The Good Life” means to my husband and I….I think it should still incorporate pictures of us but have it more refined and clean looking…we’ll see!
