Last night’s Birthday bash was a good time! I was a bit slow moving when I got up this morning, but it was nothing a little juice, water, hot yoga, and Union Square Café Bar Nuts couldn’t fix…
Eric asked me to make the famous Union Square Café Bar Nuts -a double batch! Everyone always raves about them and they make the house smell intoxicating…a great appetizer. I followed the recipe to a tee, except substituting the butter for Earth Balance.
Karly, Dan, Jesse, Zac, Jaime, Henrick, Steve, Ange, Nienke, Preena, Morgan, Sarah, Adam, Lisa, Nicole, Blake, Stephanie, Ricki, Cameron, Nancy, Jen, Eric and I made up the group. It was a full house!
We had a few organic red and white wines, Corona, Organic Mill Street, Sangria, and some hard liquors for the alcoholic bevs.
And some Kombucha, pop, and juice for those not drinking.
The potluck was a success…so much good food! Lots of vegan and gluten-free options as well.
On the menu:
- Mediterranean Salad
- Kale salad
- Scalloped Potatoes
- Chickpea sunflower burgers
- Edamame Caviar
- Lentil Stew
- Fresh-inspired layered spinach salad
- Red hot chips & salsa
- Homemade Edamame hummus and veggies (I used my fav hummus recipe and added 1 cup cooked edamame)
- Samosas
Ange’s Whole Foods Re-Creation, Edamame Caviar:
Check out the sweets! Everything was vegan and a lot of it was also gluten-free.
The desserts:
- vegan chocolate cake
- raw cookies
- Raw crepes with berries & cream
- Happy Hemp Two-Bite Brownies
- Lemon poppy seed Bundt cake
- Raw triple berry fruit crisp
Also, check out the vegan chocolate cake from Whole Foods that Karly brought. It was absolutely delicious. Moist and super chocolaty. :) I had no idea that Whole Foods made vegan cakes!
I was birthday song serenaded. :)
Raw crepes from Lisa:
I will be hounding her for the recipes and making these crepes stat!
I also got spoiled with thoughtful cards and gifts. :)
After beer, wine, and Sangria last night, I was not feeling so hot when I woke up this morning!
I made myself a big juice to start the day off right…
About half hour later my headache was gone. It’s a miracle. Then I had a breakfast of leftover raw crepes with fruit crisp, water, and finally, hot yoga late morning. I almost bailed on yoga, but I was glad I went because I felt human afterwards.
Today, was more prep & cleaning and then potluck #2 with family. We were celebrating Mother’s Day, my FIL’s birthday, and my birthday. May is a busy month!
We kept it simple with salads, a BBQ, and a few leftovers from last night.

Shout out to my BIL, Dave! (He reads my blog every day) :)
I had 3 more glasses of wine tonight…hopefully I won’t regret this tomorrow. ;)
I had a veggie burger, Ezekiel bun, ketchup, BBQ sauce, and a few salads all mixed together.
[Do you notice that these photos are a bit fuzzy? I wasn’t using my tripod…it makes a big difference.]
I had some leftover vegan chocolate cake & a brownie bite for dessert. :) There is one slice left and I’m hoping Eric doesn’t bring it to work tomorrow…
Well, after a fun weekend, I need to rest up for my Birthday tomorrow.
Hmm, it looks like someone has already beat me to it…

Happy Birthday Angela! What a fun party — all of that food looks delicious and everyone looks like they had a great time!
You are glowing in all of the pictures! :)
Happy Day!
May 16 is my birthday too! Love the food from your blog, and your writing :) also where did you get the cute top you were wearing at the party with your friends?
Have a great day!
Happy Birthday!
Thanks, the top is from Jean Machine.
happy birthday! looks like a LOT of delicious eats! (: I love all your photos.. they make me want to get a good camera RIGHT NOW!
your kitty is so so cute <3 I love her coat, so pretty! My cat is always so skittish but I love when she cuddles with me (:
This all looks so wonderful! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Also, I’ve been perusing your site for days on end because when I return home from study abroad in a month I want to make a huge vegan feast for my family and boyfriend to show them it isn’t all “weird food” and that it is actually delicious! :)
Happiest Birthday to you lovely lady! May this next year be your best yet =)
Everything looks wonderful, including you! I’m de-lurking to wish you a Happy Birthday, and I also want to thank you for your excellent blog: I’ve been addicted to VOO for about two months now (although I’m trying to make a change with the Power House Glonola I made last week but at breakfast-time it seems I’m more of a VOO monsta than a granola monsta :D), and I’ve made so many of your cakes and desserts which my friends and family and I love – ideally I want to become vegan after being vegetarian for about ten years, so I’m trying to have more vegan meals in a day until I barely notice I’ve even done it!
You’re truly inspirational and you’re helping me to change my life for the better, so I thought your birthday would be a good time to comment and say thank you and congratulations :)
PS Thanks to Eric and Sketchie too, for being awesome!
Thanks so much Jenny! :)
Happy Birthday!!! Wishing you the best year :)
Busy weekend but at least it was a “good” busy.
Awww…Sketchie is so cute :-)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGELA!!!
Great party photos! Everything looks soo tasty, especially the desserts (obviously). I’m so glad to hear your potluck was a big success! That’s a relief your juice cured your wino-head pains (I hate that!). Wish I could have been there! Sending my love all the way from Melbourne!
Love the shirt you’re wearing during your B-day celebration! Where is it from?
tks! its from jean machine
Happy (late) Birthday! I’ll be 25 this year so I’m not far behind you!

Looks like a great time and amazing food. Glad you sent the year out right and ready to welcome a new one.
Suzanne
What a fun weekend—great way to celebrate your bday! Sketchie is so precious in those pics. I thought he was more standoffish–I’m surprised to see him all cuddled up with Eric.
he is a real cuddler at night time!!
Happy 28th to you! I’ll be doing the same in July. So weird to think I’m nearly 30… half the time I think I’m barely 21! LOL!
Those chocolate crepes look fantastic. If there’s a time of over-indulgance, your birthday weekend is it! :)
Happy birthday!!! Looks like an awesome potluck! I would also like to see the raw crepe recipe!
Happy birthday, looks like a fun evening!
That super juice looks amazing…what did you put in it?
It was 1 beet, 3 carrots, 1 lime, small 1 inch piece ginger, and half a grapefruit I think!
What an amazing, amazing night!! How wonderful to have such loving, and food-loving, friends and family at your beck and call :D
