The Monster Is Back

October 20, 2010

Top of the Fall morning to ya!

20101017-IMG_7366 20101017-IMG_7318

Anyone want to come rake our leaves for us? I will bake you tons of treats to fuel your workout. ;)

In other news, the Green Monster is back after a long hiatus!

20101020-IMG_7701

Does anyone else go through food phases? I do all the time. Even with Green Monsters!

I don’t know if it was the arrival of Fall + cooler weather, but I hadn’t craved a Green Monster (or pretty much any vegetables!!!) for 2-3 weeks. Then I noticed that we were stock piling CSA spinach and veggies and I decided to get back on the wagon. :) I craved my first huge salad the other day and it was so delicious I was kicking myself for falling off the veggie wagon for so long!

I forgot how good one Green Monster a day makes me feel. I loaded this one with cinnamon, spinach, pumpkin, banana, raw maca powder, molasses, wheatgrass powder, and almond milk. I have started drinking GM’s after workouts because I find that in the morning I am always a bit chilly and don’t want one when I get up.

Speaking of wheatgrass, Eric now wants to make chocolate dipped wheatgrass. I don’t know how we got on the topic yesterday, but he said, ‘I would eat wheatgrass…if it was dipped in chocolate first!’ And then he let out an evil laugh.

I don’t even know who he is anymore.

On that note, it is time for some of this week’s health news links…enjoy!

I haven’t had a single smoothie since coming back to school…too much cleanup for a snack that makes me cold!!

It’s funny how our bodies like to jump around so much. I’ll be obsessed with the same thing for two weeks, and then it’s on to the next!!

I definitely go through food phases. Right now I am on a major salad and veggie kick but sometimes I will be repulsed by the idea of anything green. Eating is all about balance :)

I totally go through phases. Adding cocoa powder to my green monsters is currently one. ;)

Currently I am in a “eat anything that says gluten-free on it” as I was just recently diagnosed with celiac, and I am completely out of comfort zone when it comes to food. Fruits, veggies, beans, I’ve got down. But I can’t eat most whole grains (even ones that are supposedly gluten-free as my stomach has reacted poorly to my upping my quinoa intake!)

I would go nuts eating the same thing every day! I’m definitely in an apple phase right now, especially cooked apples and apple butter, but I try to mix up how I enjoy those things each time. They’re so good, I wouldn’t want to get sick of them!

I totally get stuck in food ruts, I love to eat leftovers and I have eaten soups and chilis for over a week when I have a ton of it! :)

Lately I’ve been eating an avocado and hummus wrap on a brown rice tortilla for lunch every day. I’m obsessed!

You really need to get that man a chocolate fountain.

I’ve been thinking about how bad I’ve been w/ my green monsters, glad I’m not off the wagon alone. Right now I’m on a burrito kick. And I have a nasty feeling that a cornbread kick is comming into play here. Chili and cornbread…specifically sweet potato black bean chili and corn bread…..ok so obviously I’m developing an obsession.

I can’t wait to try some pumpkin in my GM! Have a beautiful day!

I had a pumpkin smoothie this morning, too! Should’ve added some spinach to it, darn. :P

I definitely go through food phases. Once I get a taste for something I can eat it for a week straight or sometimes more. Then I get tired of that and then move on to the next craving.

First, you live in such a BEAUTIFUL place! Thanks for sharing the pics! We do tend to eat the same things a few days in a row, but it’s hard when you’re cooking for two people and you have an entire can of pumpkin open. You gotta eat through it!

I go through food phases all the time – especially with smoothies for some reason. Some times I don’t feel like having them at all, and others I feel like making them everyday.

I definitely get in ‘food routines’ a lot. Mostly consisting of oats, nut butters, certain fruits, and then there’s the “Chips, Cheese, & Salsa” that I LOVE

Not going to lie, I would totally rake your leaves if A) I lived closer, and B) I got to play in them and take pictures in them.

hahah, I love fall so much :)!

and i really need to try a green monster soon

Ah yes, I think I got totally veggied out with all the great stuff at the farmer’s market this summer. Now that it’s fall, all I want is warm food-chili, soup or stew. So I make sure I get my veggies in that way! Still in love with my fruit though.

I go through food phases all the time — for weeks I will have a smoothie for breakfast, and then for weeks after that I will have oatmeal for breakfast. Same with lunches and dinners — I get stuck in ruts. It just makes grocery shopping so easy to eat the same things week after week!

I definitely go through food phases. :) Right now I’m addicted to cinnamon raisin english muffins with peanut butter, soup, and salads. I was on a Green Monster food phase, but slowly weened off of it (for now). Your Green Monster looks awesome though!

It’s so nice to see that I’m not the only one who goes through phases. I’ve had an oatmeal, tomato sandwich, salad phase. I think the salad one lasted over a year (my phases last at least a season if not longer). I think part of my phases is that I’m just too lazy to think up something different to eat for lunch. I think the fact that I was eating salads all last winter sort of screwed me up. I noticed come January that I just didn’t have the drive I had all summer and fall to go on my runs. I think by eating cooling foods in the winter sort of screwed me up. So, this year I’ve started making really yummy and hearty veggie soups. Hopefully that’ll keep me fueled up and raring to go.

I tend to eat the same type of breakfasts every day- oatmeal’s honestly the only thing that keeps me going.

How weird – I just had my first GM in about 2 months yesterday! I definitely go through food phases. Right now I am all about homemade sweet potato fries, Kashi Heart to Heart, and wholemeal pasta. I’m always about bread – especially if it has seeds and grains :)
