Good morning!
Yesterday, I played the role of an Undercover Blogger as I spent all of my ‘blog time’ working behind the scenes answering emails and I did not have a chance to post. I am sure you all appreciate a break from my ramblings now and then! I know I do. I am about 90% caught up on my emails now, so I will ride this high as long as I can! I also updated the Green Monster Movement with wonderful reader recipes.
Some food highlights of yesterday…
My healthy spelt pancakes for one that I doubled for Eric and I.
Mmmmmmmm!
After digesting, Eric and I headed out for a very humid Brick workout! I skipped my Brick on Friday so I decided to make up for it Sunday morning.
The bike leg:
- Distance: 5.55 miles
- Time: 31:44 mins
- Avg Pace: 5:43 min/mile
It was a great bike ride. We did mile 2 on the trail and I took the lead and did my fastest trail ride yet! I was going fast over the rocks. It was exhilarating!
Eric didn’t come for the run portion because his knee started bothering him a bit. My transition was a quick one…just over 1 minute and I was up and running!
The run leg:
- Distance: 2 miles (mile 1 = 8:27; Mile 2 = 8:14)
- Time: 16:41 mins
- Avg Pace: 8:20 min/mile
- Max pace: 6:18 min/mile (sprinting last 300 metres)
This run was super challenging! My legs were tired and I pushed myself to maintain under an 8:30 min/mile pace. I kept saying, ‘Feed The Warrior!’ and before I knew it, I was turning back after 1 mile and just had to make it home. I love out and back runs so much because the run ‘back’ always feels easier!
When I got home I needed to Feed The Warrior…this time with food!
Lunch was a huge, delicious mixed baby green salad with chickpeas, green onion, tomato, etc.
With a generous amount of my Better than Balsamic salad dressing!
It’s official: Green onions are my new favourite thing to top a salad with. It gives the salad so much flavour!
By the way…check out DAY 3…
Craaaaaazy!
Another obsession as of late…the open-faced sandwich!
Berries for dessert…
Sadly they do not last long in this house!
Afternoon snacks..
Chickpeas + Cheeze sauce from the other night + EVOO + vinegar + pepper:
We went over to my Aunt and Uncles for dinner and had such a nice visit! I didn’t take pictures of dinner as I was OFF DUTY! I forgot how nice it was to sit down to a meal and not whip out the camera!
After spending more time on the laptop, Eric found me like this around 11:30pm…
Good times.
Breakfast was an ‘open-faced’ bowl of Banana Soft Serve Vegan Overnight Oats…
I made Cherry Bomb Banana Soft Serve using 1 frozen banana and 6 pitted cherries.
The layers:
- Base layer = Vegan overnight oats
- Middle Layer = Cherry Bomb Banana Soft Serve
- Toppings = Unsweetened coconut, Cacao nibs, and a cherry on top!
Love, love, love.
Today’s question: Do you take pictures of what you eat? If so, how much to you photograph- everything or just once and a while? Do you take pictures at restaurants or when visiting family or friends? Are there ever days when you are ‘off duty’?

Have a great day. I will see you tonight!

I’m a new blogger, so I haven’t gotten in the grove yet of photographing everything I eat. I will probably only photograph the interesting stuff and things that I have something to say about. I think off-duty days will come just the same as workout rest days…when they are necessary and there just isn’t enough time or when I’m traveling.
I know one thing, I must must must start trying VOO with soft serve! But I am sans a food processor. Does soft serve work in your standard blender?
I try to take photos of my meals if they’re particularly pretty or if I’m using a new recipe. I rarely take pics of my boring leftover meals or snacks. I figure if it’s something I’d rather not take a picture of, then why force it? The whole taking a picture of everything you eat thing is also too OCD for my lifestyle. It’s nice to set the camera down every so often and just enjoy your food! I will take pics at restaurants if the presentation is really pretty…
I can’t wait to read the new GM recipes, I’m actually sipping one right now!! And I must say, I am loving your “I heart yoga” water bottle :)
I love that warrior quote when you’re running – I think that might be my new inspirational quote:)
I photograph everything, except like, the odd apple or piece of fruit, or things that appear every day. And I do restaurants and family too :P I think I’m pretty dedicated!!
The quote is from Lance!
I always feel that way on out and back runs too! As soon as I turn around, and feel like now I am running home, it somehow ends up being shorter, and faster!!
PS Whenever I go to bed first, my husband comes and finds me in the weirdest positions sleeping, my arms are always splayed or tucked up under me, so weird! When we go to bed at the same time, I fall asleep like a nomral, non-double jointed person!
Um, yeah. The first photo is like food porn. I love it!
I take pictures if I am at home. I only rarely take photos at restaurants because I don’t want to make a spectacle of myself. I also don’t take photos if I’m with friends or family because not everyone knows about my blog yet.
I also don’t take photos when I forget! :D
angela, i made a new vegan concoction that i think you might like…i’ll send you the link when i post about it tomorrow!
I think that your break was well-deserved. I wouldn’t be able to take pictures of everything I eat – my mom wouldn’t like it. She specifically said, “You already eat so little, what’s the point of taking a picture?” Plus I think it might just increase my fixation on food… which isn’t that great for my recovery. :(
But… those pancakes and VOO both look absolutely fabulous. I wonder why I’m always just commenting on your breakfasts? ;)
Wei-Wei
That stack of pancakes look so good. :) I’m loving the bananas in between them.
Okay, those pancakes look like they should be featured in a magazine. Beautiful!
Love the couch face-planted picture. That’s me every night, ha!
I take pictures at least once a day of what I eat. I usually take 3-4 of each dish to make sure I get a good shot. After a year of food blogging I’m not shy about pulling out my camera anywhere anymore!
I take pictures if:
A) it’s a new recipe or something I know I will want to blog about
B) it’s a new/special restaurant, but only if I can do it inconspicuously!
Taking pictures also requires that I get to the food before my husband does!
Your pancakes look so cute!! When I started blogging I always forgot to take pictures of my food, but after a while I got used to it. (Still a little uncomfortable whipping out the camera in restaurants though, so I keep that to a minimum!)
I don’t take pictures of everything I eat, but sometimes I will do a full day for my blog. I was just doing interesting or super fancy stuff but then I wanted to give people an idea of what a real raw foodist eats all day long. But I can’t keep up with it everyday at this point. I worry about eating to blog rather than blogging what I eat. I think at least a day off is really important, please feel free to do it! I am trying to take weekends off the computer myself.
I don’t blog about everything I eat, but I do blog about all of my new recipes. Sometimes I like an ‘off duty’ night where I just whip out a pile of ingredients and don’t measure one thing. It’s so relaxing… cooking for the sake of cooking. It took me a while to really get the hang of cooking with exact measurements for the sake of the blog. Sometimes on those nights when I’m not feelin a food photo shoot while trying to cook a fab meal ;) … Brian will ask, aren’t you going to take pictures of this…? Then I explain how sometimes, it’s nice to not have to think about measurements/ pictures/ steps to a recipe and just cook because I love it and enjoy how relaxing it is to chop veggies w/o trying to hold the camera in the other hand ;) So in answer to your question, yes… I love taking some off duty nights.
Oh my goodness…funny you should mention food photography. I JUST posted yesterday on my blog http://www.spidatter.com about trying to make vegan pesto after being inspired by YOUR blog post about your garlic scape pesto.
I ADORE food photography and do it every time I create something new to eat, but my only complaint is that it ends up taking FOREVER to cook anything b/c I’m always pausing and styling something, shooting it…and then continuing on with the baking.
How do you make it less time-consuming?!
What’s the deal with the green onions? I have some bulbs that I’m about to throw away. But it seems I can keep them and they will keep sprouting…?
yup!
Hi Angela:
wow, what a busy day you had!
I want to ask a question-when I read your blog, I am on the west coast and by the time I read about your deals on your glo bars-they are gone. Is there any way you can split it up to where you offer a morning and an afternoon deal?
I have missed out on so many deals b/c I am on the West Coast. :-(
Just a suggestion. Thanks.
Great suggestion!
Open-faced sandwiches rock- I find they’re so much more fun to eat :)
I do take pics of my food, mainly for the blog, but I don’t stress if I’ve missed something, especially if it’s something more generic like an apple or a pb & j sandwich.
I’m still not 100% comfortable taking pics at restaurants or in front of some friends and family. Though, luckily my fav dining partner, my b/f, knows and supports the blog and mockingly objects if I don’t take pics which is encouraging :)
