Curry Dud In A Flurry

April 12, 2010

Thanks for your encouragement about the TRY-A-TRI!

I don’t know what has gotten into my husband, but I agree with you guys- he is on FIYA! Eric says thank you for all of your nice comments about his Coke Kick and decision to do a Triathlon. Next thing you know he’ll be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro blind-folded on a pogo stick! bahaha.

Today was a busy day in the bakery. I cranked out my orders, made some business calls, shipping, and did more Gluten-Free & Raw Glo Bar testing + nutritional calculations. I am zonked. I honestly thought it was Wednesday today and then I realized it was Monday. Not a good sign! ;)

Dinner was to be quite honest…pretty lame. My goal was to make Coconut curry quinoa with my leftover quinoa and I was way too heavy handed on the curry. I tried to make it taste better by adding some hummus (what can’t hummus fix!?), but it still was just blah…

Then I uploaded the pictures and realized it looks about as good as it tasted…

Ick. It almost looks GREEN! And not the good kind of green…

I’m not giving the recipe because I don’t want you making this…trust me on this one. ;)

With carrots…

and Mary’s Crackers.

Onward and upward tomorrow!

Because I was in such a flurry today, I don’t have any exercise to report, but I do have a wonderful Health News Round Up to share with you tonight…

  • A very fun Vegetarian/vegan recipe website. Thanks to Kady for sharing!

Tonight’s question- How often do you have cooking/baking duds in the kitchen?

I tend to have usually 1-2 duds per week. This is usually from throwing a bunch of things into a pot and hoping for the best (as I did tonight). I am also notorious for burning my sweet potato fries to a crisp. When I tell Eric I am making sweet potato fries for dinner, he always says ‘uh oh’ and laughs. :( I’m cursed!

I’m off to learn more about Dwight and hopefully hit the hay early as I am zonked. Night!

1. I ALWAYS burn my popcorn

2. The other night I made a nice, romantic italian dinner for my boyfriend. We each took one bite, stared for a moment in silence, started laughing, and then left for the local sushi place.

3. I made vegan overnight oats…but I added in some shredded CARROT. It’s amazing. Tastes like carrot cake with a spoonful of cashew butter on top. Ohhhhhhhhh yeah.

Wow, those fries spent some time in the oven…teehee. I make a good spicy sweet potato fry recipe if you all are ever interested. My hubby loves them. As for duds, yea, I’ve had a few, the most recent being a pumpkin pie last Thanksgiving. I tried to create a really healthy version of it and it was just YUCK! I threw the entire thing away…I was so dissappointed because it was such a waste…guh….My biggest duds that used to happen on a regular basis were brown rice (which I now steam) and believe it or not, those sweet potato fries. I’ve made them so many times that I don’t burn them much anymore.

I have an off the wall question and I’m sure you’ve blogged about this in the past but since I’m new to your world, I hadn’t seen it. What kind of daily supplements do you take?

Have a super day!

I’m not sure if you have time for reading more blogs, but I love reading this one by pro triathlete Bree Wee who lives in Hawaii. I thought it might be good inspiration for your training! She has such enthusiasm for her sport and life in general and sometimes there are some great veggie recipes thrown in (see 11 Jan 2010).

ahhhhhhh I’m laughing so hard at the “blindfolded on a pogo stick” comment . . . too funny!

Funny enough I had already convinced my bf to go for a swim workout last night (which we haven’t done in like 3 years) when I was reading your try a tri post. And he was like oh okay if Angela and her husband are doing a tri that we can too. It might possibly be a ploy to get me to buy him a bike.

I feel so much better knowing you have duds too. I have duds about 1-2x a week too, but I thought it was my newbie cooking skills

Unrelated to this post, but…THANK YOU for introducing me to the Green Monster. I love them, and they make me feel so good!

awesome way to make sweet potato “fries”: cut the potato horizontally so that you make sweet potato medallions, coat pat with olive oil, place sweet potatoes on pan so that none over lap, sprinkle with cumin, garlic powder, salt and more olive oil, bake at 350 degrees for 30 mins or until brown.

hope this works out for you!

My most recent cooking fail was baked potatoes. Like two weeks ago I was making dinner and didn’t realize they took almost 2 hours to bake! I finally gave up and they weren’t quite done yet. Yuck!

I get lots of duds or less-than-perfect experiments in the kitchen. :-P Sauces that are too runny or salty, dehydrator breads that fall apart and most recently a raw soup experiment that didn’t end well! It’s all part of the fun. :-)

I don’t have too many duds — but then I’m not working long hours like you — but boy, I have the same darn problem with sweet potato fries! What is it with those? Which reminds me I was actually going to make some for breakfast tomorrow (make them today, that is).

And I totally adore the darn things!

Poor sweet potato fries :( I don’t have duds too often, but that’s because I follow bloggie recipes :) Some are better than others, but not too many flops!

I definitely have some duds, but try to use them as a learning experience. But it definitely bums me out. Plus the food i have to eat after is often, obviously dud tasting. heh.

Wow this whole post had me smiling 😄 The curry dud made me laugh because honestly… we’ve all been there. Some nights the kitchen just says “nope” and everything turns into a weird greenish experiment 😂
Your line about Eric climbing Mount Kilimanjaro blind-folded on a pogo stick absolutely cracked me up the visual is wild! Love the energy you two have, it’s so real and fun.
Also, sweet potato fries? SAME. I swear they go from “almost ready” to “charcoal” in 0.2 seconds. I keep trying though because when they turn out right… magic ✨
Thanks for keeping it honest it’s nice to see that even great cooks have off days. Onward and upward, just like you said!
