Tall, Dark, And Handsome Hot Cocoa

February 11, 2010

It’s been one of those ‘I’d climb Mount Everest in stilettos to get my chocolate fix’ kinda weeks…’ (In case yesterday’s post wasn’t clear…)

Only a woman would understand this desperate need for CHAAAA-COOOO-LATE.

Tall, Dark, And Handsome… Hawt Cocoa

Unlike the male variety, this form of tall, dark, and handsome is guaranteed not to disappoint. I adapted the ‘hot coco-cocoa’ recipe from Eat Drink & Be Vegan. This is hands down the best cocoa I have ever had. Ever. In eternity.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup coconut milk (full strength, not light!)
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any milk)
  • 1/4 cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder (I used regular cocoa)
  • Pinch of sea salt to bring out the sweetness
  • 3 tablespoons of maple syrup (or agave but I like maple syrup)
  • marshmallows and cacao nibs/chocolate chips to garnish

Directions: Throw all ingredients into a pot and whisk like crazy. Bring to a boil and then simmer on low for several minutes while whisking to remove clumps. Try not to burn your tongue like I did while taste testing. :) Pour into a 1 or 2 mugs and top with marshmallows and chips. Enjoy with a spoon to make it last longer.

Serves two (or one female that would bulldoze anything in her path to get it)

Best tasting hot cocoa in the world. I don’t joke about this kind of thing.

It was luxurious, decadent, and totally necessary.

Eric suggested that we make this again on Valentine’s Day. Just imagine snuggling with a blanket, sipping on some hot cocoa, and watching a movie. Amazing, no?? It would be equally fun for a girl’s night too. Have a bunch of friends over and make a huge pot of this stuff!

Are you a chocoholic?

Will you be making anything on Valentine’s Day?

I have this theory that chocolate slows down the aging process…. It may not be true, but do I dare take the chance?

I’m a chocoholic learning to be less of one so that I don’t irritate my stomach. But it is oh so delicious.

Oh girl, this has me looking at my boring black coffee hoping and willing it to turn into this amazing looking hot chocolate. I need to 1) get my hands on ED & BV and 2) make this ASAP!

That hot chocolate sounds so good. I like that is uses coconut milk. What happens if you use light coconut milk? That the only kind I have in my pantry right now.

I am absolutely a chocoholic – my whole family is! My mom has always eaten a chocolate bar every single day … she is about 100 pounds, so it’s okay :-)

I have always been a HUGE Chocoholic. I always carry chocolate with me. I started eating 70% dark several years ago for the health benefits but still like milk and white chocolate too. Bernard Callebaut is one of my favourite brands. Hot chocolate is another weakness of mine, and I usually have a cup of cocoa at least once or twice a week. I have got to try Dark, Tall and Handsome — looks divine.

Yum! This looks delicious. I’ve been thinking of what I could do for hot chocolate since I’m not really drinking dairy anymore and this is perfect! Thank you!
Yes, I’m a chocoholic and am ok with it. I think for Valentine’s Day, I’m going to make my one-bowl chocolate cake- maybe even vegan… hmmmm….

I must find vegan marshmallows! Do you find your Dandies in a store (if so, you are sooo lucky!) or do you order online?

Ooh sounds yummy! I might just have to treat myself to that on Valentines day. It’s funny, I was listening to a nutrition podcast this morning and it was saying that chocolate cravings are sometimes linked to a lack of magnesium and wanting something sweet after a meal can be linked to a zinc deficiency. Don’t know how true or widely applicable that is– I think I just like sweets!– but it’s interesting nevertheless.
