Making Time For Sit Down Meals

October 14, 2009

**Please note: Blue Host is currently ‘jailing’ my website because it is using up too much CPU usage.  This is why my site is slow. I am working on looking for a new host.**

The past few days I have been paying careful attention to the food that I am eating and in what amounts. Things have been so busy that I noticed that I wasn’t getting enough fuel to support my long hours in the bakery. I would often grab something quick for lunch and be back at it 5 minutes later. Well, we all know that this isn’t healthy, so I decided this week to start re-claiming the lunch (and dinner) hour!

hours

At my old job I was used to never taking lunch breaks because my boss often made us work through them. I realized that I picked up this habit back in university when I would eat while studying instead of taking a proper mental and physical break from it all.

My food lately has been grab and go. Quick, easy, and nutritious items that either don’t require preparation or require minimal heating.

Today’s lunch was a can of Health Valley’s Organic Black Bean Soup:

Since this is a no salt added soup it is very bland.

IMG_5105

I add ample seasonings and it’s not too bad once I do that!

IMG_5111

Mmm…It warmed me up so much.

IMG_5108

It is freezing in our house! We keep the thermostat at 67F to save some energy.

A Chi Glo Bar:

And a banana eaten in the car while dropping off my shipment.

It’s definitely FALL!

Oh we will have fun raking this year! lol

Crunch, crunch, crunch.

I always eat breakfast and lunch sitting down and away from my desk at work, and have been trying to have more family dinners with the boyfriend. It’s nice to sit down together as a couple and chat about our day, as well as slow down our meals.

We haven’t turned the heat on yet and finally the bf declared an end to it all. It’s been in the 40’s here, so I guess he’s kinda right but I hate to turn it on already!

I’ve tried that soup once and was not a fan at all — It literally tasted like veggies in dishwater. Unfortunately, all other soups have an insane amount of sodium. Why is there no happy medium?! le sigh.

LMAO @ veggies in dishwater.
oh man that is funny. I could see that for sure. It is BLAND as hell.
I wish there was a happy medium too! The veggie flavour is my fav of all of those ones.

I always sit and have dinner every night but bfast and lunch are always on the go. I while usually eat at my desk for bfast and lunch while I am working.

I really like how that soup is so bland! Gives you lots of wiggle room to spice it up :)

I don’t get lunch breaks at my job. Often times, I have back-to-back assignments from 9 in the morning to 5 in the evening. I’ve gotten pretty good at packing foods I can eat in the car (I try to at least park somewhere to eat it). But I can’t stand having to eat a snack while walking! Actually, it’s one of the things that frustrates me the most about my job…

OMG thank you for the discount!!! I have been out for a few weeks, and I really need some more :-) Sometimes I come home completely starving and start to just grab things and eat while thinking of what to eat as a meal, but then it’s too late for a meal and I’ve already eaten plenty!

I have always tried to make a point of eating my meals sitting down, and while doing nothing else. Sometimes I eat in front of the TV though … who am I kidding, I do it a lot!

We always say we’re going to sit down at the table for dinner without the TV on, but then end up on the couch watching some show. I’m pretty good about eating breakfast and lunch without distractions.

I took lunch all the time during the summer, but now that we’re back to our academic year schedule, I hardly EVER do! I miss my afternoon walk! I’m taking it back asap!

Our house gets down into the 50’s..we only turn on the heater if absolutely necessary! haha. I’ve been trying to be better about sitting down and eating at the table vs eating in front of the TV/computer. It really helps!

Lunch lately has been grab and go because things get busy this time of the year at work. Dinner is crazy so we try to set some crockpot meals most days so that we can have something warm and homecooked instead of packaged or takeaway.

Good for you for planning to take a break. You deserve it!

What is lunch? (Just kidding!) I must be a little strange. I love being so busy I barely have a spare minute. I schedule two “mini meals” for the day that I keep at my desk/in a mini fridge that I can eat quickly and give me energy.

Every now and then, though, I take an “executive lunch” with a colleague or my husband. Dinner is relaxing time, and never involves anything other than conversation and food.
