Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bomb Green Monster

July 20, 2009

Check out this picture I found on the website last night! At the finish line…I actually sprinted and caught up to these three people.

Note:

I wasn’t anywhere near this pack!

HARD CORE!!!!!!!!!

By the way, that wasn’t all the food I had yesterday!

There was more…

I ended up eating the rest of this Optimum bar!

It was just kinda sitting there….so…

IMG_0156

In my belly it went! Nothing was safe near me yesterday!

I didn’t care for it much. Actually, I scraped off the icing and ate it plain. It was better without it. :) I gobbled that up and was still hungry before bed, so I had a few handfuls of cereal. I couldn’t believe it but when I went to bed I was still hunrgy! But, then I passed out from exhaustion. Eric was like, ‘I’m super hungry too’…lol…like I said, the spectator sport is HARD work! He slept for 4 hours yesterday afternoon! bahaha.

I can’t believe it, but I’m barely, barely sore at all today! This is absolutely mind-blowing to me because I am typically always sore after long runs, and I was very sore after my 10k race last month. I think my pre-and post race nutrition plus immediate and continued stretching throughout the day yesterday REALLY helped! I think I stretched about 5 times yesterday and then a long one in bed before I hit the hay. :) Stretching rocks!!!

This morning, I wanted to celebrate my race with a fun new Green Monster, I’d like to call

Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bomb Green Monster

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 serving PC extra-firm organic tofu
  • 3 cups steamed spinach (I made a big batch yesterday and put it in a glass pyrex dish)
  • 1 T PC Just Peanuts Peanut Butter
  • 1 T cocoa powder
  • 1/2 T carob powder
  • 1/2 scoop Amazing Grass Chocolate infusion powder
  • 1 cup PC low-fat soy milk
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3 cubes ice
  • 1/2 T coconut oil
  • 1 T chia seeds
  • 1 small banana

Wow was this GM ever amazing!!! I felt like I was sipping on the smoothest, most luxurious drink ever. It was creamy, creamy, creamy! It actually made more than in the glass below and I quickly chugged it back straight out of the blender. ;)

I’ve got a crazy busy day of orders today (about 6!) so I need to get cracking in the kitchen.

Thank you to everyone for your congrats on my race!!! You all rock!

Have a great day!

i just have learned so much about myself and how far i can push myself to go. i never thought in a million years i would ever do a half marathon, and within a few months, i hopefully will have completed 3 or 4! if you feed your body proper nutrients and treat it right, it will love you for years and years!

I am reading Intuitive Eating now and cannot believe I have dieted for as long as I have. Of course I know what’s best for my body. My toddler knows it and he’s 37 years younger than me! Here’s to listening to myself from now on and figuring out what *I* need, not what someone else tells me is right to eat. And that includes not eating meat when I don’t feel like it!

What I’ve learned about health, fitness and nutrition in the past little while is: food is fuel that your body needs to perform, long distance training is not a weight loss program and cross-training improves your overall fitness.

I have learned that everyone is different and what works for some people may not work for others in nutrition and and fitness. I have to listen to my own body and know what is best for me.

I am constantly learning about health, fitness, and nutrition, because that is what I am always reading about! :) My favorite tidbit I recently learned is you still get the same (or similar) insulin response has when you consume calorie free sweeteners — even stevia!

I have learned to add good fats back into my diet. My hair, nails and skin have all improved so much since adding these fats back into my diet. The Green Monsters are helping too!

Thanks for constantly providing such great health and nutrition info!

From reading your blog, I have learned that my entire life could have been vastly different had I known about the connection between my poor self-esteem and my food choices. While I’m not overweight and people have been rather unkind about my naturally slender frame, I have always felt weighed down by sadness and feelings of disconnect. But your relentless good cheer and self-discipline has shown me what I can achieve if I make some simple changes in my life. Last week I started making green monsters (without any powders; too expensive) and stopped all bread and cheese consumption. I also stopped drinking sodas and started race walking. My energy has soared and I feel light on my feet and happy and grounded. Your posts helped motivate me to do what I’ve only managed to dabble in for endless years, and that’s taking good and loving care of myself. Thank you!

I’ve learned about sustainable development, buying local and organic. I also learned about listening to my body to fuel right and avoid burn outs and serious injury.

I started training for a half-marathon 6 weeks ago, and I have learned so much since then! I’ve learned how to breathe correctly while running, and I’ve learned how to fuel my body properly with enough food. One of the benefits of running is eating great food afterwards! I’m finding myself craving healthier foods, which I think is awesome.

I love checking your blog everyday for a burst of inspiration. I have learned that I love learning out nutrition and about all the different ways I can improve different areas of my life. I have learned to be more aware of my behaviour and why I reach for certain foods. I have been reading the omnivore’s dilemma and it has opened my eyes to the way I was taught to see and experience food. It has made me want to put in the extra effort so my children have a different experience.

Thank you so much Angela for being a daily inspiration

I’ve learned about a lot of different health foods from reading blogs – greek yogurt, almond butter, flax seeds, wheat berries, etc! They are such a huge part of my diet now that I can’t believe I went allllll these years without them.

I’ve learned that there is a thin line between eating healthy and going to the extreme. However, it is possible to find the happy medium :)

that green monster sounds crazy good! i have a question for you. i know you’re really busy and probably don’t have time to answer all the questions you must get, but i’m curious: is there a reason you steam the spinach that you put in your green monsters instead of using raw spinach leaves?

as for the giveaway, i SO want in! what a great prize. in the past little while, i’ve learned that there’s such thing as TOO much cardio, and that i should listen to my body when it’s feeling overworked. i’ve learned that just because a type of exercise doesn’t make me sweat, doesn’t mean that it isn’t doing amazing things for body.

I’ve learned about how I need to listen more to my body. I have the power to control what goes in and how my body uses it. Food is fuel for my runs and my crazy life as a SAHM. T

I have learned that I LOVE almond butter! And I have also learned to not be so hard on myself when it comes to food. Food is not the enemy, it is the way I fuel my active lifestyle!

I would LOVE to win this giveaway.
