Hell Has Frozen Over.

July 5, 2009

IMG_9059

Look what I ‘surprised’ Eric with today! A Green Monster!!!

To say he was underwhelmed is an understatement…

IMG_9058

Hahaha, the nervous look on his face kills me!

Here is what went into his mix:

IMG_9036

Ingredients:

  • 1 large handful organic spinach
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup Light ice cream
  • 1/4 t Kyolic garlic extract
  • 1 T flax (not shown)
  • Ice
IMG_9051

So what did Mr. ‘Smoothie hater’ think?

IMG_9054

He really liked it (I think even more than his ego wanted to admit!!!). :D The only thing he didn’t like was the bubbles. The ice cream and milk combo made it very bubbly. He drank all of it! I was a proud Green Monster mama. ;)

I will slowly start making him healthier ones…but shhhhhh…. ;)

He said it was really refreshing! He had just come in from mowing the lawn and doing the trimming.

IMG_9040

Last night we did some weeding for about 2 hours or so and we have a bit left to do today. Maintaining our yard is tons of work!!!

IMG_9043

Yesterday I spent most of the day doing a new website design for Glo Bakery, and then around 11pm I ended up scratching the entire thing!!! :( I just wasn’t happy with it. I added a bunch of food pictures, but it looked so cluttered.

This afternoon, I used one of my new pumpkin spice bar pictures and re-did the header. I think it looks really nice now and I am finally happy with it!

fitness

This morning we went on a fun run + bike trip! The weather is just glorious today.

The run:

  • Duration: 39 minutes
  • Max heart rate: 176 bpm (up a big hill)
  • Avg heart rate: 159 bpm
  • Pace: 8:56 min/mile
  • Distance: 4.47 miles

It was a great run! Lately, I have been picking up my pace and really challenging myself. My heart rate was in the high 160’s for most of the run!

Then I came home and did Exercises 7, 8, 9-10 for the Summer Glow Boot Camp!

I was one tired girl afterward. I saved the yoga poses for the end so I could stretch out my muscles. I have been doing really good for stretching after each run and I am positive this is a huge reason why I have not seen any more injuries. *knocks on wood* ;)

food I was up early this morning baking an order of my Vegan Pumpkin Spice and All Things Nice Bars!

Of course, being groggy is not the best time to bake….I forgot a key ingredient! Oops. The result was not horrible, but was obviously not something I was going to sell.

IMG_9012

So I saved the batch and am going to use it to sprinkle over my cereal. It still tasted SO yummy! I also had a bar before my run for some GLO energy! ;)

I also made a new Glo Bar- For the time being I am calling them Hey Lassy Ginger Glo Bars :) Eric thinks the name is cheesy, but I told him to stuff it! lol.

IMG_9021

If you are a ginger and molasses lover you will LOVE these bars- they turned out so flavourful and spicy!

IMG_9031

This now makes 10 variations of Glo Bars!

This afternoon, I made a new batch of my Pumpkin Spice bars! I tweaked the recipe a bit and they came out really nicely.

IMG_9061

Once cooled, cut, and drizzled icing, and they look like this:

YUM. :)

Mmm it sounds like a green monster milkshake. I’m going have to put some ice cream in mine and call it a dessert!

Way to go, Eric! I was beyond surprised when my husband agreed to try a green monster with me the first time I ever made one – even more surprised when he said he liked it! We’ve been drinking them almost every morning for a month now and we’re both loving the energy boost we get from them. Now I just have to get him to clean the blender and life will be all the better :)

Oh man my mom has a 1/2 acre that’s mostly grass in NC and I don’t know how she does it with a regular lawn mower, but I guess it’s a good workout lol :) mmm . . . those ginger and pumpkin spice bars look amazing! Can we order them from the U.S. yet? Is the shipping not too bad?

Eric is too cute!! It reminds of my boyfriend the other day, I made your too die for cantalope green monster. Told Kyle what was in it and He willingly took a sip and then said hmm I can see why you like that!! I was soooo shocked. He said it was a little sweet for him, he likes a bit more tart so of course my next plan of action is too devise a “tart” green monster involving cherries!! Seeing him drink one may make my year!!

By the way Angela I adore your blog, you are amazing and seem to be just as beautiful inside as you are outside! Keep up the amazing baking and be sure to let me know when you can ship to the US!!

I thought maybe the idea of drinking a green monster had made him queasy, haha, but it seems he was out in the yard, ohhhh! ;)

Keep us updated when you can ship to the U.S.? I’m dying down here!

Heh I just started my boyfriend on Green Monsters this weekend too! :)
I was dying to try them, the first few were more like Muddy MOnsters because they had strawberries in them, but yesterday I put (all organic) kale, juice of one lime, two apples, a kiwi and almond milk and water into the mix…it was really refreshing to take out of the fridge before work this morning! Plus I added a tbl spoon of ground seeds. Yum!

Your yard is amazing! Wow.

Do you think you will ever be able to ship your products internationally btw?

Hi Angela

I was wondering something about green tea: I have always heard that the longer you leave it steep, the less caffeine it has (I know it’s not logical, but I heard it from various sources). You seem to think the opposite. What’s your opinion?

I laugh that I felt the SAME WAY when my husband joined the toddler and me in our shrek shakes.

and he loved it as I knew he would…

Sarah- I let it steep for 10 minutes because that is the amount of time it takes for the maximum amount of Catechins (antioxidants) to steep. :) I have never heard that the more time you steep the less caffeine though…I thought the opposite for sure.

RE: Shipping to the US- I will let you know soon! :) Thanks for your inquiries!

RE: International shipping- At this point, I don’t see it in the near future but that’s not to say that down the road I might be able to.

I just found your site & I LOVE everything on it!! I just made my first Green Monster today & I really liked too. I didn’t have any ice cream though, so I omitted that part. I think I am hooked & will have to add other things in it. Thanks for sharing.
