Fix It Up!

March 25, 2009

Good afternoon!

EDIT:

I’m hoping that you will fill out these 2 very short surveys for my Glo Bakery research. Each survey (10 questions) takes less than a few minutes of your time and is greatly appreciated! I am trying to do some consumer research on price points. :)
Part 1-

Part 2- http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=MbBk0x3O_2bBiVoKwO1b1eWA_3d_3d
Thanks so much!
Angela

I decided today’s post would centre around our home Fix-ups! That is another ‘F’ theme I thought of today.

I also wanted to mention, I am aiming to do an earlier lunch post from now on. I’d like to ideally post around 1pm for my lunch post. Of course this will vary, but I just thought I’d let everyone know my goal.

Eric has been a busy bee with the family room and sunroom so I thought it was time to show some progress. :)

I think he is now done sanding (I hope to God!) so now I can start cleaning like a mad woman before my mom and Stepdad come to visit us for the weekend (Thurs-Sunday). The house is a wreck right now!

The family room:

This is after stripping the wall paper, washing the walls a million times, patching the walls, scraping off the popcorn off the ceiling, sanding, more patching, more sanding!

The beams used to be the color of the wainscoting.

We still need to strip the wainscoting and then stain all of the wood.

I think we are going to stain it a deep walnut stain. I think that will look really classic. My brother is going to install about 9-10 pot lights for us too. Then it is painting and flooring! I think for flooring we are going with laminate for its’ durability. We will go with a deep walnut color or we will go with a cherry similar to the kitchen.

Poor hubby!

He aged about 50 years in 2 days!

Our kitchen floors :(

Didn’t stop Sketchie from walking on them!

IMG_7706

IMG_7705

This is what I have to uncover each time I want to workout!!! Talk about unmotivating!

Another view:

IMG_7712 IMG_7713

For the wall colour we are going to go with a tan, pulling from the brick. I think the sunroom will be some shade of deep brick red, but I’m not sure.

IMG_7711

That is one tired looking shop vac!! lol. I think he has a cold. Hopefully he doesn’t sneeze!

Food:

Today I made 3 batches of my Pumpkin Ginger Powerbars for Eric’s coworker. He is ordering a dozen of them each week! Sweet :)

IMG_7707

I also had a quick yet voluminous lunch!

IMG_4069 IMG_4065

Contents:

  • Sweet Potato with pepper
  • 2 pieces of whole wheat toast
  • 2 slices of Tofurkey
  • 2 slices of tomato
  • homade hummus
  • Romaine Salad

I think I overdid it with this sweet potato- it was HUGE! I was a bit uncomfortable after eating all this food. :)

Ok, back to work!

Today’s question: Are you currently doing any painting or renos? What are they? Are you planning on painting this spring or summer?

I am itching to paint our master bathroom, but Eric says we have more important rooms to work on first! I might just have to do it one day while he is at work….muhauha.

I wish I could do some painting this summer! Unfortunately, the girl my boyfriend and I are subletting from for the summertime doesn’t want us to paint, since we won’t be there very long. I need to find ways to decorate the apartment without painting or putting holes in the walls! It’s a hard task. Any ideas? I might put a tapestry up with super-heavy-duty tape…I’ve been scouring for ideas lately! Maybe we’ll sneak a few holes in here and there and cover them up at the end.

Decorating is so fun!

Wow, the house looks like it’s really coming along!

We did a lot of painting over the last couple years. Now we’re working on finishing the basement (slowly but surely) and doing some structural stuff in the backyard.

We’re sort of in limbo right now. We bought the house almost three years ago and would LOVE to stay in it for years and years. But I’m going on the academic job market in the fall, which could foreseeably take me (us) anywhere in the country. So, much as we want to put our energy and resources into the house, we’ve decided not to do a whole lot more for the next year, until we know for sure whether we’ll be here longterm.

Sorry, that was a long comment! Stuff that’s been on my mind a lot, I guess :)

Renos are the worst while they are happening but so worth it in the end!

We did renos in our old house and all the dust and mess it made just about gave me hives!! :)

Looks like the renos are coming along! I plan on painting a little bit this summer. 2 Accent Walls in the great room and one in the master bedroom – not too much! I do have a bunch of furniture I’m refinishing though – I’m so excited for it too!

I’m planning on painting my room this summer. I wanted to do it about 3 years ago when I first moved in, but never got around to it and I was alright with the colour of the walls at that time. But now I’m bored of them – I want to do something brighter like a vibrant dark turquoise colour. I’ll also finally be able to patch up all the tiny holes (from pictures, etc) from the previous owners without having to worry about finding the exact paint colour on the walls to cover it!

I think the dust from renos is the worst! It gets everywhere!

The room is looking great! We’re looking at houses so we’ll probably be doing all that in the next couple of months. It’s a lot of hard work but it will pay off big once it’s done!

Poor running beast :(

Hi Angela, I just started reading your blog recently. Since you travel a lot and I like your clothes, I wondered if you have any favorite items that you always wear on your trips? My mom is taking me on a trip to celebrate my graduation from law school, and I have no idea what to buy or take!

Like Kate, I also thought that was a squash! :) The renos look awesome – you two are busy bees! I’ve never tackled such a huge home project. Maybe one day when I own a home…but for now my apt is white carpet with white walls…borrring!

Your house looks amazing!!! It’s so fun to see all of the progress you’re both making. And your lunch looks mouth-watering (sweet potato and all).

I desperately want to paint our condo, but it’s sort of at the bottom of a loooooong to-do list. I’m trying to deal with the white walls…but…I might crack soon and add some color before I go blind from the blankness!

No renos planned but I was thinking about what I need to do for Spring cleaning! We are planning on selling our house by the end of this year and we need to do a few touch ups of baseboards and clean out some clutter and stuff! Oh what fun!! (a bit of sarcasim there!) ;)

I’m glad you’re going with your gut on the blog and incorporating some themes – sounds fun!

No renos here, mainly because I live in a one-bedroom apt. Though we should paint, maybe…

Hi! Just wanted to say that when I saw the title “Unfulfilled Blogger” my stomach did a little flip flop!Is my favorite website, the one I look forward to everyday going to be know more?I was very happy to see this afternoon you were still going strong and making it even better.I have been eating healthy and exercising for 7 months and have lost 70 pounds.Going from 205 to 135 so far.I feels as though none of my friends are really doing things that I am doing right know.Alot of people actually act as though I’m the weird one because I love to choose fruits and veggies over junkfood and get excited to get up at the crack of dawn to go to the gym and run!!Your website makes me feel like I have a place to turn to everyday.I also love the things on renos, shopping, celebrities. These are more of my favorites. It everything I’m interested in all in one place. And it dosen’t hurt that the creator is a fellow Canadian!LOL-Thanks for doing this website.
