Case of the Mondays

Hello everyone!

I had one of those Mondays today.

This website (I called it a blog, but it really has evolved into much more than that), notably, has been a glimmer of hope for me. I absolutely love what I do on this website. I know that this is what I am meant to be doing because when I do it, it doesn’t feel like work to me, but it feels inspiring. Like I am fulfilling my inner self.

That is not to say that this website hasn’t been a lot of work, because it has. Anyone who has done something like this knows of the countless hours that need to be devoted to it to truly make it special. But the work is fun to me. I come alive when I am talking about my passionate interest in health, food, nutrition, exercise, fitness, beauty, fashion, self-esteem, body image, baking/cooking, and running.

I come alive when I am able to help others or inspire other people to become happier individuals.

I know that down the road, this will be a career for me. One (or all) of my passions. It just has to be. I can’t imagine going on in life and not doing something that I am truly passionate about. It is also a dream of mine to own an out-of-house bakery.

These dreams and aspirations keep me going when the going gets tough. Some days, like today, I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have this glimmer of hope to aspire to and work towards. That is really the only thing that keeps me going on days like today.

My question to you is: Do you have a ‘glimmer of hope’ or a dream that you aspire to? Are you taking steps to achieve that goal?

Luckily I had my amazing husband and Sketchie-cat to come home to tonight:

What an amazing picture!! His eyes are slits!

Note– this was taken on the weekend- I only wish it was sunny out when I got home at 7:30-8pm!

Dinner tonight was fabulous. This meal makes leftovers take on a whole new meaning!

Squash and Chickpea Moroccan Stew from the other night:

I chopped up raw almonds and sprinkled them on top. They added such a wonderful crunch. I also scooped a dallop of vegetable hummus and organic salsa on top. Soooo good.

Everything on one spoon:

I was still hungry after dinner so I had a bowl of spelt cereal, a Cinnamon Roll Larabar, and a small handful of semi sweet chocolate chips. Now I am stuffed!! Stress eating/hunger perhaps???

Looky what came in the mail today!!!! I squealed with joy!

hahaha could this guy look any funnier!??? I think not.

MEOW!!!!! lol.

The DVD is comprised of three workouts– one for beginners, one for intermediates, and one for advanced. I cannot wait to try this out!!!! I am going to put it on tonight to watch a bit and get familiar with his style.

Stay tuned for a review of this DVD in days to come!

Stay tuned

  • Best and Worst dressed from the Golden Globes (have your say with polling stations!)
  • Nature’s Path cereal review
  • Kardea Nutrition bar review
  • My half marathon training recap so far

Don’t forget to vote in today’s poll of the day if you haven’t already:

Have a great night everyone! I am going to check out my new Yoga Fabio Prince (Y.F.P.) (oh Eric is jealous now), watch last night’s episode of Dragon’s Den, and The City (missed it last week!).

And I did a little soul searching tonight….

Never continue in a job you don’t enjoy. If you’re happy in what you’re doing, you’ll like yourself, you’ll have inner peace. And if you have that, along with physical health, you’ll have more success than you could possibly have imagined.
— Roger Caras

You are what you do. If you do boring, stupid, monotonous work, chances
are you’ll end up boring, stupid, and monotonous.

— Bob Black

I  believe you are your work. Don’t trade the stuff of your life, time, for nothing more than dollars. That’s a rotten bargain.

— Rita Mae Brown

Each man has his own vocation; his talent is his call. There is one direction in which all space is open to him.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

I love that….’there is one direction in which all space is open to him….(errrr….HER!)’ ;)

Your website is truly an inspiration in so many ways – it is one of the few things I read daily, and has motivated me to be healthy both physically and mentally – even on the worst of days, you still manage to DO positive things, and I really admire that. So thanks for all the work and passion you’ve put into this site, it is really fantastic!

I think I couldn’t agree with you more on being passionate about the stuff you do and it ultimately does reflects on your work. Believe me Angela, I completely identify with your passions because they are something that really get me intrigued too and I am trying to collate all that together in my blog. I am just at a nascent stage so i guess that it will take some time for the changes to be visible, but just as you said that it is the passion that keeps you going! I know my rambling may not make sense, its just that this topic struck a cord!
Great post!

Please stay strong!! Hope your day tomorrow is better.

Oh man, I struggle daily with my job. It’s sort of a means to an end because it pays for my master’s in international education, which is one of my passions. To encourage people to travel and open their minds and hearts to the beautiful differences between regions, culures and people of the world.

But at the same time, my biggest passion health and fitness, is something I have always been afraid to pursue. I think I have a huge fear of success which keeps me from taking risks.

I agree blogging is so theraputic and rewarding.
You inspire me everyday with the honesty, commitment and tireless energy you devote to your readers.

I look forward to the yoga dvd review.

Also what is your favorite piece from teh OSG shop? Will we see you do any modeling soon?

It’s vital in our lives to not only FIND what we’re meant to do, but to FOLLLOW it. I just went through this. Real Estate is fun and all, but what DRIVES, MOTOVATES, and INVIGORATES me is exactly like you, heath, food, nutrition, fitness, wellness, body image. I HAVE to follow this. I don’t want to neglect my inner soul knocking saying, “THIS is your key. Please use it to unlock the door to fulfillment and happiness.” I’m unlocking that baby and I’m SO GLAD you are too.

I LOVE your blog and I stand behind you. I respect all your work and all your points about health, nutrition, and body image. YOU ALONE have helped me so much.

Now, how many people get to be loved so much by a community that just adores them so much? Girl… I’m so glad you do what you do. Thank you.

O man..i really needed those quotes, thanks :D I’m really struggling since moving back home after graduating college, I can’t find a job for the life of me, and I’m just getting so depressed and discouraged. Anywho- I really love reading your blog and I can see you pursuing a career in the beauty/fitness/health/mind/nourishment field!!

Angela – I know your research is related to psychology, but would you care to elaborate a bit more? I work as a researcher in psych/neuroscience, too. Right now I study adolescent brain development but I’d like to get a PhD in cognitive psychology in the future. I would also like to combine my neuropsych interests with my interest in fitness/nutrition but I’m still figuring out how to do that!
Hang in there and thanks for the great website!

I’m not happy career wise but it pays good and it’s hard to give that up this day in age. I contemplated taking a college Baking and Pastry Arts course only to find out that the college within traveling distance only offered some but not all of the classes I would need. So I’m back to square one. Hopefully things work out for you eventually!!! :D

I had a case of the Mondays today too, only I couldn’t shake it. How do you stay so positive? My glimmer of hope is going to nursing school and I think about it ALL the time. I’m just waiting to hear back from schools (cross your fingers).

Sometimes I feel like maybe I’m not takiing time to enjoy the present, always thinking about the next thing that will make my life complete. Did you feel like this before you began your road to health? It seems you have a great balance in your life now!

14 Leah January 13, 2009

Hey girlie! I hope your Tuesday is better than your Monday was! I often second guess my career choice and I’m in the process of exploring my options (either in the same field or a different one altogether). I think it’s SO important that we do what we love in life. We only get this chance once!

15 Lara January 13, 2009

Great post. My glimmer of hope is going back to school to become an RD and having a private practice to help people become healthier. The thought always brightens my days and gives me motivation.
You’re going to be just fine, missy! It’s clear you have enthusiasm and drive and you can never go wrong with that :)

16 Chandra H January 13, 2009

Hi! I’m a bit of a lurker on Oh She Glows, but I just wanted to say hello and thank you for all of your dedication and enthusiasm. You do such a wonderful job on this blog, it’s really inspiring and definitely sets you apart in the blog world (in a good way of course!)
I read every day and your posts always make me smile! I love all the different elements you have, and how you just dive right into it all. Love love OSG and I hope that you keep blogging and fulfill your dreams :D

Angela – I love your site so much. You are so inspirational and I truly appreciate the tremendous amount of time that you commit to inspiring others. I know exactly how you feel with your career. I am in a creative field (architecture), something I went to school for and got both bachelors and masters degrees in, and I just don’t know if its the right place for me. I too love to bake, and dream of being able to research recipes and experiment in a kitchen all day long. I would love to write a cookbook, or open a bakery, or cater…something creative involving food. I also love food styling and photography and could see making a career in that. Its funny, I received Alton Brown’s baking book for Christmas, and in the introduction he states that it is common knowledge that architecture students often go into baking as a second career because the thinking is so similar…who knew?!? Maybe its a sign…

Thank you for all you do. I love getting notifications in my mailbox that you’ve posted a new entry, its a light in my day. :)

18 Erin January 13, 2009

My glimmer of hope – my need for adventure. I NEED to always be challenging myself farther or else I get bored. My taste for adventure will definitely lead me on my path of life….

Thanks so much for this blog Angela. I started my blog after I had been reading yours like 2 months ago…So you’ve started a cycle! You have a way with words and your relatable in your posts!! I would hire you as my trainer anyday!
