A Monumental Affair

November 5, 2008

Well, I was up way too late last night watching the election coverage! I knew I would be tired this morning, but things as monumental as this don’t happen twice in a lifetime so I chose to watch. :) For those of you who didn’t see Obama’s speech you can view it here

It was a bit tough getting up this morning after only 6 hours of sleep, but knowing that I had beautiful warm and sunny weather waiting for me outside sure did help! We are getting spoiled with our record-breaking highs of 20C/68F this week- so I have to enjoy every minute of it!

I had an early morning 'haunt' from Sketchie

I got dressed, chugged some water, grabbed my loyal ipod, and hit the pavement running. Seeing as my walking mental roadblock was overcome, I decided again that I would not walk at all during my 5.5 mile hill run.

The run, I will admit, was tough today. I have two painful, large blisters that really hurt! The entire run I felt them throbing in pain and when I got home one of them had bled. :( I made an appointment with a podiatrist as soon as I got home. I have been needing orthotics for a long time now to help with my over-pronation (feet roll inward). Luckily, my work insurance plan covers orthotics so that is a huge help!

On the bright side of things, the run itself was fabulous- great weather and sunny skies. What better way to start the day than that!?

My time was 47 minutes for the 5.5 miles (beating yesterday’s time by 3 minutes), which was surpising because I felt like I couldn’t run as fast due to the pain. Maybe I was running faster just to get home. ;) I also took the 24 flights of stairs up to my condo afterward (5 mins).

Then it was rush, rush, rush off to work.

Me with my huge thermos of peppermint tea!

hehe…my feet look funny again in this picture! :)

One great way to save money is to bring your tea/coffee/drink of choice to work with you in the morning. I do it every morning and I also bring my own tea bags to work and boil my own tea (I bought a kettle on sale for $10 and have it by my desk!). My colleagues buy coffee and tea everyday and it can really add up. I figure I save about $480 a YEAR just bringing my own tea (based on $2 per cup, once a day- and we all know it can cost more than this).

Stay tuned for this afternoon’s post on how to save time with your morning routine!

Have a great hump-day everyone! :D

I make myself coffee (if I drink it at all!!) at home as well- it saves so much money!

I also got my BF to not drink coffee in the AM out- i get up and make it for him… why spend the money if you don’t have to??

And I am proud to say YES WE DID!!!!! My office has a Canadian sister office and they were all texting me last night saying congrats.. it was crazy!

Mariposa– That’s really sweet of you that you make your BF his coffee to save money. :) It ALL adds up! I can’t get over how much moula some people shell out for something as simple as tea or coffee!
I live in Toronto and on the news they were showing people celrbating in all these bars last night. It is crazy how much influence this election has had on people all over.

I really wish I had the time to work out in the morning. Unfortunately I always have to leave it until after work and i’m always exhausted :(

i know, i wish i had motivation to work out in the morning!

what do you suggest in terms of abs workouts, and any thoughts on bicycling?

Leah I know what you mean about how hard it is to fit everything in! I am lucky because I don’t start work until 9:30, so I do have that extra leeway to fit everything in. However, I also don’t get home until 7pm, so I know that I have to do it in the morning or I just wouldn’t do it at night. By the time i have dinner and everything its 8:30-9pm and who wants to workout then? If I had to get up at 5 or 6 to workout I really don’t know if I could do it!

Jenn For ab workouts, what I LOVE doing are planks. I will see if I can put something together in tonight’s post to detail the ab workouts that I prefer. :)
Bicycling can be a great workout if it is challenging enough! I tend not to enjoy stationery bikes unless it is a spinning class. Biking outdoors can be very fun, but I think it is crucial that you challenge yourself by using a difficult resistance and lots of hills. It can be an easy piece of equipment to ‘just coast’ on.

Thanks for reading! :)

That’s the thing.. my gym doesn’t open until 6:30 so by the time I get there I could never get a decent workout in, plus shower & get ready to be at work by 8am. Just wouldn’t happen!

Hello Angela,

The cat’s eye was lighting?! LOL

So you also had an overtime watching the election coverage. Good thing Obama won, I don’t know, I am not againts McPalin tandem, but i think that Obama needs to win.

Get well soon…
